Aztec Trailz Base Game and Features

Aztec Trailz is a 4×5 Video Slot with a brand-new Trailz mechanic in play. Winning combinations are formed when 4 or more matching symbols from the bottom row connect upwards in order to form a Trailz.

Once a win has been formed, new rows are added above each time your Trailz continues. As you make your way up via the Trailz mechanic, a Multiplier of x2 is awarded to wins when you reach row 5 onwards, increasing by +x1 with each additional level achieved.

The minimum bet available here is £.€0.20 per spin and the maximum bet available is £.€100 per spin, with plenty of other options in between the two. This game has a theoretical RTP of 95.5% and a max win cap of 10,000x.

In terms of symbols, the highest-paying regular symbol here is the Explorer, followed by the Mask. Low-paying symbols fall to Green, Purple, and Blue Aztec symbols. Wilds substitute for all other symbols except Bonus Scatters.

Increased Bonus Chance Bet

Trailz Enhancers

When the Trailz mechanic reaches certain levels, special Enhancers will activate in order to help you continue your climb to the top, as follows.

• Guaranteed Bonus – Awards the Free Spins round regardless of how many Bonus Scatters you’ve collected on your travels. The Guaranteed Bonus enhancer is only available when the Increased Bonus Chance Bet is active.
• Lifeline – Awards a Respin if the symbols that drop on a row do not continue the Trailz. Lifeline enhancers can only be used once, but multiple Lifeline Enhancers can be awarded.
• Plus Rows – Continues the Trailz upwards by 1 and 3 rows. At least one symbol from one Trailz will drop on top of the existing Trailz, further matching symbols. Wild symbols may also drop to increase the size of the Trailz.
• Symbol Swap – Swaps symbols from the Trailz into another active position, guaranteeing the Trailz will continue. This includes Wilds and matching symbols, but only if they appear in that row. This does not guarantee the Trailz will continue.
• Symbol Upgrade – The Symbol Upgrade enhancer will transform all symbols within the Trailz that have reached that row into the next highest-paying symbols from the paytable.
• Add Wilds – Once active, this enhancer will award between 1 and 4 Wilds in random positions on the row that triggered it. Wilds can occasionally move to continue a Trailz, but this is not guaranteed.
• Add Wild Row – Awards an entire row of Wild symbols, guaranteeing that Trailz will continue.

Aztec Trailz Free Spins

Landing 3, 4, or 5 Bonus Scatters in the base game, or by reaching the Bonus Guarantee enhancer on the Trailz will trigger the Free Spins round, awarding 8, 10, and 12 Free Spins respectively. An additional +2 Free Spins will be awarded for every Bonus Scatter that lands.

During Free Spins, each Trailz height achieved is held for the duration of Free Spins. This means that with the next Free Spin the initial set of symbols will drop in the same positions, rather than starting back at the bottom.

In addition to this, row Multipliers are also held so the row/level Multiplier that is achieved on the last spin is the new starting Multiplier for the next. Landing a Bonus Scatter symbol during this time will award an additional +1 Free Spin.

Max Win

Aztec Trailz: Our Verdict

As far as first offerings go, Aztec Trailz is by far one of the best we’ve seen. We’ve been waiting for a Provider to come up with a ‘pay upwards’ mechanic for a while, and it only took a newbie Provider to deliver.

At first glance, Aztec Trailz looks similar to ELK Studios’ Gold series, but the Trailz mechanic quickly changes your perception of the game, making it stand out as one-of-a-kind…for now.

As you climb your way to the top of the Trailz, Phoenix Flames Studios has swapped out booby traps in favour of Trailz Enhancers, of which there are a few. With these aiding you on your climb, it doesn’t seem overly difficult to reach a great deal of rows.

Things go from good to great in the Free Spins round, where each level/row reached does not reset between spins. Talking of Free Spins, if your legs are too tired to climb, you can always make use of the Bonus Buy option, that is if you’re outside of the UK, and it won’t cost an arm and a leg either.
