Chain Reaction Hold & Blitz Slot Review
Pale-blue crystal shards and a frozen bolt of lightning frame nine gold-edged mini-cabinets stacked in a navy cavern. Chain Reaction Hold & Blitz hides its best idea inside that icy pile: the nine boards aren’t a gimmick, they’re nine 3-reel slots that only start caring about each other once one of them fills with coins.
Until that moment, you’re playing a fruit machine nine times at once. After it, the grid behaves like a single game with nine fuses.
Iron Dog Studio has wrapped a retro fruit-machine core, all saturated primaries and chrome bevels, inside that grid. It’s the studio’s fondness for inventive frames again, the same streak behind 1 Million Fortunes Megaways and Dwarven Gems Megaways.
The game runs at 95.2% RTP, with stakes from 0.20 to 20.00 per spin, one winline per board, and a cumulative payout cap of 12,500x stake.
Base Game & Features
Those nine boards are the whole game. Each one runs 3 single-symbol reels and pays along a single left-to-right winline. Matching symbols on consecutive reels from reel 1 makes a win, only the highest combination on each line counts, and wins across multiple boards are added together and paid against the total bet.
It’s a compact setup per board. Nine of them at once means the screen is always doing something, even when the individual results are small. A cherry line on one board and a plum line on two others still lands as a single combined payment, which keeps the nine-way layout from feeling like nine separate coin flips.
The paytable splits into gems and fruit, with every symbol paying for a full line of three:
- Pink Gem: 3x stake
- Blue Gem: 2x stake
- Plum: 0.5x stake
- Orange: 0.3x stake
- Lemon: 0.2x stake
- Cherry: 0.1x stake
Special symbols sit outside that list. Coin symbols are the Special Bonus and Special Mini, Minor, Major and Mega Prize symbols, and they’re the route into everything the game does beyond its winlines.
A prize ladder runs down the left side of the screen, and its four prizes arrive as coins during the feature rather than from the base reels:
- Mini: 15x stake
- Minor: 50x stake
- Major: 150x stake
- Mega: 1,000x stake
Chain Reaction Hold & Blitz Bonus Features
Hold & Blitz
Fill any single board completely with coin symbols and Hold & Blitz triggers across all nine boards at once, each running its own version of the feature. Every coin locks in place, and each board that isn’t already full gets 3 respins.
During the feature only coins can land; everything else shows a blank, and the regular winlines are suspended. Three diamond indicators under each board count down its remaining respins, and any new coin landing on a board resets that board’s count to 3. The count only stops resetting when the board fills or the diamonds go dark for good.
Special Bonus coins carry cash values of 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 9x, 10x or 12x stake. Fill a board and its respins end, the board collects a random multiplier of 2x to 5x applied to its cash values, and the Chain Reaction fires. Fill all nine boards and no Chain Reaction occurs at all; instead, every win on the screen is doubled.
Play it out step by step and the shape of a round becomes clear. The board that triggered the feature starts full, so it’s already waiting on its multiplier; the other eight begin their respin countdowns from scratch.
Coins land, counters reset, boards complete one by one, and each completion pays its multiplier and pushes coins outward to the boards still in play. The round only ends when every board has either filled or burned through its final respin with nothing new landing.
Chain Reaction
When a board completes, its Chain Reaction immediately adds one to three coins to other boards. Any coin landing this way resets that board’s respins to 3, even if the board had already run out, which can bring a stalled board back to life mid-feature.
Reactions cascade. If the coins a Reaction drops fill another board, that board triggers its own Reaction on the spot, and one completed board can set off a sequence that travels the whole grid. In theory a single feature can keep itself alive for as long as boards keep completing.
Ante Bet
The Ante Bet costs 1.5x your stake per spin, a 50% increase, and in return it doubles the chance of triggering Hold & Blitz. Wins pay against the stake itself rather than the larger outlay, and the Ante Bet’s RTP is 95.17%.
It can’t be switched on if doing so would push the total bet above the game’s maximum, which matters here: at the top stake of 20.00, a 1.5x multiplier isn’t available at all. It also has to be off before the Bonus Buy can be used, so the two routes into the feature are mutually exclusive rather than stackable.
Bonus Buy
The Bonus Buy skips straight into Hold & Blitz for 70x your stake, running at 95.51% RTP. All multipliers quoted anywhere in the game are against the base stake, not the buy price, and the price shown adjusts as you change the stake in the buy menu.
The maximum cost of the buy can also be configured by operators, based on their own limits, so the price you see can vary by casino.
One structural note: the base game and Hold & Blitz use different reel sets, so the feature isn’t simply the base game with coins pasted in. The 12,500x stake limit is a cumulative cap that ends a round outright once reached, with all remaining spins stopping and the cap being awarded.
It’s a termination line rather than a designed jackpot, there to stop a round that could otherwise continue indefinitely.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.7/10
This is a patient game dressed as a busy one. Most of the time you’re watching nine tiny fruit machines tick over for pocket-change wins, and the reason to sit down at all is that frozen cavern moment when one board finally fills and the other eight get dragged into the feature with it. That handover, nine boards going at once with counters resetting all over the screen, is the whole show.
The Chain Reaction makes the feature worth the wait. A board that has run out of respins can be revived by a coin arriving from elsewhere, so a round keeps escaping its own ending, and the best moments come from sequences you’d stopped expecting. Outside the feature the reels are thin: the top symbol pays 3x and each board has one winline, so the wait for a trigger can run long.
It suits players who like a simple, honest reel format and don’t mind earning their drama, and the Ante Bet eases the wait if the budget allows. Anyone wanting constant base-game action will find the cavern cold. For the patient ones, though, there’s real treasure under that ice.
