Champions Night Slot Review
A quarterback in a blue number 22 jersey leans in over the reel frame, ball cradled, striped helmet catching the floodlight glare, while green turf with painted yard numbers runs along the bottom of the screen and the crowd dissolves into blue and magenta bokeh behind him. That’s a lot of stadium for nine squares, and it’s the deal Onlyplay is offering: a 3×3 grid where one Hold and Win round built on coin symbols does all the scoring.
Champions Night spends most of its money on the picture around the reels rather than the reels themselves. Small-grid hold games usually look like pocket change; this one looks like a Friday-night fixture, neon-bright with a progressive jackpot ticking above it. If you enjoy this studio’s work, Fox Gold Rush covers similar ground.
Base Game & Features
Three reels, three rows, nine positions. That’s the entire pitch. Champions Night keeps its grid tight and its presentation big, with the stadium artwork doing the heavy lifting while the reels themselves stay clean and readable.
Nine positions is a genuinely small playing area, and it shapes everything about the game. A three-by-three board leaves nowhere for a symbol to hide: every spin puts the whole grid in view at once, and wins resolve immediately. There’s no lengthy anticipation built in, and none needed.
The symbols pull their weight from the football theme. The wild is a football player wearing a WILD banner, substituting for other symbols to complete wins. A Collect coin appears only on the centre reel, and ball symbols carry cash values that become important the moment the feature starts.
What’s on the board:
- A 3×3 grid with three reels and three rows
- Football player wild with a WILD banner that substitutes for other symbols
- A Collect coin that appears only on the centre reel and triggers the round
- Coin and money symbols carrying cash values such as 5x, 10x and 15x the bet
- Special coin and jackpot symbols that show up in the feature
- A progressive jackpot running alongside the coin prizes
The presentation carries the football theme consistently. The quarterback frames the reel set from above, the turf grounds it below, and the crowd lights give the whole screen a night-game glow. Yard numbers painted on the grass, 50, 40 and 10, sit under the reels as a constant reminder of where you are.
The render style is glossy 3D with plenty of sparkle. Stadium lights flare off the helmet, the turf has a sheen to it, and the background crowd resolves into soft blue and magenta points of light with the odd star-like flare. It’s a polished piece of artwork for a three-reel game.
Coin symbols are the bridge between the base game and the feature. They carry cash values such as 5x, 10x and 15x the bet, and when balls land on reels 1 and 3 together with a Collect coin on reel 2, the Hold and Win round follows. Balls and coins that land in the base game also fill an accumulator that can start the round on its own. That handoff from base play to feature is the game’s whole rhythm.
Champions Night Bonus Features & Free Spins
Hold and Win
The Hold and Win round is the game’s centrepiece. Balls on reels 1 and 3 with a Collect coin on reel 2 trigger it, and once it does, the Collect stays locked on the centre reel until the feature ends, gathering the values of every ball, jackpot balls included, while everything else spins on.
The feature plays out on the same three-by-three grid, but it doesn’t look like the base game. Locked coin and jackpot symbols sit in their positions with a bordered, countdown-style overlay framing the play area, and the unlocked positions respin around them.
That overlay is the round’s clock. It marks the state of play while the empty squares fill or don’t.
How the round works, step by step:
- Coin and money symbols carrying cash values, such as 5x, 10x and 15x the bet, land on the reels
- Balls on reels 1 and 3 with a Collect coin on reel 2 trigger the feature
- Landed coins lock in place, each holding its cash value
- A bordered, countdown-style overlay appears around the feature grid
- Special coin and jackpot symbols can land in the feature
- The remaining unlocked positions respin
- Each new ball resets the respins to three, and a Wild that lands leaves a x2 multiplier on its cell for any ball that lands there
- The round pays out its coin total when it finishes
The structure rewards a full board. Every position that locks a coin is a position the respins can’t take away, and with only nine squares in play, the round’s tension comes from watching the empty spots close one by one. A grid this size can fill completely in a good run.
Jackpot Symbols
Four jackpots run alongside the coin prizes: Mini, Minor, Major and Grand jackpot balls can land in the base game as well as the Hold and Win round, and the Collect gathers them with everything else.
The jackpot’s value sits wherever the meter sits when you play, and it climbs as play continues across the network. In a round built on locked coins and closing squares, that meter is the thing worth watching. Filling the board with jackpot symbols is the round’s ceiling.
Because the grid is only three by three, the round resolves faster than it would on a larger board. That pace suits the game: short, sharp feature rounds that don’t outstay the theme’s welcome.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 6.9/10
Playing this is like taking a seat five minutes before kickoff: quick spins, a tight board, and one round that matters. The reason to pick it is the feature, and the setting makes even the waiting feel like part of the fixture.
Its strength is that nine-square board. Every locked coin is visible, every empty square counts, and the tension is real because you can see the whole story at once. Larger hold-and-win games dilute that; this one can’t.
The weakness is that the feature has no support around it. The base game is thin, and there’s only one round, so the football pageant is carrying a game with a single trick. Anyone after variety or a long session will feel that quickly.
It suits someone who wants short, sharp sessions with one clear goal and a jackpot meter in the corner. Anyone chasing free spins, second features or a reason to grind will want more than this. As a bit of Friday-night football under the lights, though, it plays a tidy game.
