Covert Chaos

Covert Chaos Slot Review

A street with its windows blown out, a car nosing into frame with something dark streaked on the wall behind it, smoke hanging between two ruined tower blocks. Covert Chaos is set in a war zone, but the real destruction is in the maths: this is a game that pays through its wilds or barely pays at all, and Degen has built every part of it around that one idea. The hand-drawn, heavy-ink comic style sells the mood without softening it.

It runs at 94.0% RTP with Super High volatility on a 5×5 grid holding 20 paylines, and a hit frequency of just 24%. Stakes run from 0.20 to 70 per spin. Three separate free-spins missions and multiplier wilds climbing into the hundreds do the rest, alongside City of Sin, Hades Hellfire and Plague City in the studio’s catalogue.

Base Game & Features

Wins pay left to right across 20 fixed paylines on a five-reel, five-row grid. That taller-than-usual shape gives every spin more symbols than a standard 5×3 layout, though with a hit rate of 24% most spins still end empty. The roughly one-in-four winning spin carries all the weight.

Wilds appear on all five reels and substitute for every symbol except scatters. Any wild can land as a Multiplier Wild, and the multiplier values differ depending on which faction it belongs to. Two teams are at war here, Chaos Control and the Anarchy Army, and their wilds pay on separate scales:

• Chaos Control multipliers: x2, x3, x4, x5, x7, x10, x20, x25, x50, x100, x200
• Anarchy Army multipliers: x2, x3, x4, x5, x6, x7, x8, x9, x10, x20, x25

Only the highest win is paid when multiplier wilds combine, so a x200 Chaos Control wild next to a x3 doesn’t produce x600. The scale tops out at x200, which on a Super High volatility game is where the real money lives.

The two scales tell you where each faction’s value sits. Chaos Control’s wilds are rarer in shape but climb through x25, x50, x100 and on to x200, while the Anarchy Army tops out at x25. Base wins without wilds are small change by design. Wilds can also land during any of the three free-spins missions, carrying the same faction multipliers with them.

Beyond the wilds, the base game offers a Boost option at two price points. For three times your stake it raises the chance of triggering any of the free-spins missions. For fifteen times your stake it switches the base game into a mode with more expanding multiplier wilds on the reels.

That x15 mode comes at a cost: scatters are removed entirely, so no free spins can trigger while it’s active. Only one Boost can run at a time. It suits a session built entirely around chasing fat wild combinations, and nobody else.

Covert Chaos Free Spins Missions

The game labels its three free-spins rounds as missions, and each plays very differently. A mission triggers when three scatters of a single colour land anywhere on the grid:

• 3 blue scatters – Advance Alpha free spins
• 3 yellow scatters – Sniper’s Nest free spins
• 3 red scatters – Operation: New Dawn free spins

Advance Alpha Free Spins

Ten free spins with expanding, moving multiplier wilds. On losing spins a Wild Shift can trigger at random, sliding an Expanded Multiplier Wild one reel to the left, with all wilds expanding where applicable when it happens.

A wild drifting leftward across a five-reel grid gets repeated chances to connect, so a single well-placed wild can quietly work its way through several spins before it exits. It’s the most patient of the three missions, and the only one with a fixed spin count.

Sniper’s Nest Free Spins

This round runs on two special wilds, one per faction. The Chaos Control wild carries a fixed x5 multiplier that stays active for the whole round. The Anarchy Army side gets a sticky multiplier wild that replaces a random symbol whenever it lands.

One team gives you a constant. The other gives you a growing presence on the grid, one sticky landing at a time. How the two interact over a full round is the whole character of this mission.

Operation: New Dawn Free Spins

The most elaborate of the three. You pick a team, Chaos Control or Anarchy Army, each with its own multiplier wilds, and sticky expanding wilds do the heavy lifting. Before the round starts you either take a flat five free spins or spin a gamble wheel with segments of 0, 2, 3, 7, 10 and 20 spins.

The team mechanic is the twist: if your chosen team wins a spin, the expanding wild goes sticky for the rest of the round. If the enemy team wins, the wild counts for that spin only and spins away on the next.

A wheel that can land on zero, feeding into a round where wild survival depends on faction warfare, makes this the most volatile mission of an already volatile set. Taking the flat five skips the gamble entirely, which is the only certainty on offer anywhere in this round. It’s also the only mission where the spin count itself is a gamble.

Bonus Buy

All three missions can be bought directly from the menu:

• 100x bet – Advance Alpha free spins
• 200x bet – Sniper’s Nest free spins
• 400x bet – Operation: New Dawn free spins

The buy price runs at the same 94.0% RTP as the rest of the game, so there’s no mathematical edge either way. The pricing ladder tracks the rounds’ complexity, doubling from Advance Alpha to Sniper’s Nest and doubling again to Operation: New Dawn. Four hundred times your stake for the most feature-rich round is a serious commitment at any bet level, and the gamble wheel inside it can still hand back nothing.

Our Honest Verdict

Overall Rating: 7.1/10

Playing Covert Chaos is mostly waiting in the rubble for the next big wild, and honestly, that’s the reason you’d pick it. It’s a game built to produce a handful of loud moments rather than a steady drip, and it never pretends otherwise. The war-zone setting fits that rhythm better than it has any right to.

The strength is the three missions: genuinely different rounds with their own logic, not one bonus wearing three costumes, and the faction wilds give each a personality. The weakness is everything between them. With a 24% hit rate and 94.0% RTP, the base game is a long, quiet corridor.

This is one for the patient: variance-first players with a bankroll built for lean stretches, who’d rather chase a x200 wild than grind out small returns. Steadier hands will find it grim. For the right player, though, this street is worth walking down.
