Danger! High Voltage Slot Review
If you’re after a slot that delivers personality in spades, Danger! High Voltage by Big Time Gaming is precisely what you need. Released in May 2017, this game celebrates the iconic 2002 Electric Six rock anthem with a vibrant disco aesthetic–think neon lights, disco balls, and unapologetically bold visuals. We found it absolutely packed with character, featuring a 6×4 reel layout with an impressive 4,096 ways to win. The game’s volatile gameplay creates dynamic intensity that adjusts throughout–restrained at times, then completely off the hook when the features activate. With an RTP of 95.67% to 96.22% and very high volatility that creates memorable swings, this is a game built for players who embrace both the noise and the reward.
Base Game & Features
Grid & Paylines
Danger! High Voltage runs on a 6-reel, 4-row grid that generates 4,096 ways to win–meaning winning combinations form across multiple payline patterns rather than fixed left-to-right lines. The betting range spans from 0.20 to 40 per spin, accommodating casual players and high-rollers alike. During base game spins, you’ll see the disco-themed symbols come alive: dancing figures, bells, tacos (yes, really), and the distinctive Electric Six branding that gives this slot its unmistakable character.
Wild Symbols
Two wild variants keep base game spins interesting. The Wild Fire is a stacked wild that turns entire reels wild, substituting for any standard pay symbol to complete winning combinations. But the real star is the Wild Electricity, a stacked wild that not only substitutes for symbols but adds a random 6x multiplier to adjacent wins. When both wild types land together, the multiplier potential can spike dramatically. These mechanics create moments of genuine excitement during regular gameplay–you’re never just spinning, you’re hunting for those wild stacks that unlock the bonus magic.
Scatter Mechanics
Landing 3 or more My Desire scatter symbols triggers the bonus feature selection screen–and this is where Danger! High Voltage’s real appeal emerges. Rather than forcing you into a single bonus mode, the game gives you a genuine choice between two fundamentally different free spins experiences. This choice system is what many seasoned players love: you’re not just accepting what the game gives you; you’re actively making a strategic decision about which risk/reward profile suits your current mood.
Bonus Features
High Voltage Free Spins
Select High Voltage Free Spins and you get 15 free spins with High Voltage Wilds filling reels 2 through 5. Each wild reel carries a multiplier ranging from 11x to 66x–and when multiple high multipliers land, the potential skyrockets. The volatility here remains significant: you’re chasing those big multiplier combinations, and the wins, when they arrive, can be genuinely substantial. Crucially, this feature is retriggerable: landing 3+ scatters during the spins awards 15 additional free spins, allowing the feature to extend and multiply your potential even further. This mode appeals to thrill-seekers comfortable with extended play hunting for explosive multiplier stacks.
Gates of Hell Free Spins
Or choose Gates of Hell Free Spins for a more tactical approach. You’ll receive 7 free spins with one randomly selected sticky wild locked on reels 2 through 5. Unlike High Voltage’s chaotic multiplier hunt, this mode requires patience: as the sticky wild symbol fills its designated reel completely, you’re awarded 3 additional free spins. This mechanic means a single Gates of Hell feature can extend to up to 19 total free spins if all four sticky wild positions become fully saturated. The appeal here is different–you’re watching a more methodical progression, waiting for reels to fill, building towards bigger wins through accumulation rather than multiplication. It’s the perfect choice for players who like their volatility paired with a sense of control.
Bonus Buy Feature
For players outside the UK, Bonus Buy provides an additional layer of control. You can purchase direct entry into the free spins feature for 65 times your current bet, skipping the scatter hunt entirely. This feature offers a strategic option for those moments when you want immediate access to the bonus action without waiting for natural scatter triggers. UK players won’t have access to this feature due to UKGC regulations, but for those jurisdictions where it’s available, it represents genuine player agency in pacing your session.
Final Verdict
Danger! High Voltage is one of Big Time Gaming‘s most memorable creations, and we understand why. The dual bonus feature choice is the standout mechanic–it’s genuinely one of those tough yet tantalising choices that slots enthusiasts love getting. You’re not locked into a predetermined path; you’re making a strategic decision about risk versus control. Combine that with very high volatility gameplay, a maximum win potential of 15,746 times your stake, and an RTP of 95.67% to 96.22%, and you’ve got a slot with real substance. The Electric Six rock theme with its disco aesthetic won’t suit everyone–the bright, loud visuals are unapologetically brash–but for those who embrace it, the atmosphere genuinely enhances the experience. Periods of no wins mixed with chances for bigger payouts can be mentally taxing during dry runs, and new players seeking frequent small wins might find the very high volatility frustrating. But if you’re comfortable with extended play sessions hunting for substantial wins, Danger! High Voltage delivers genuine excitement and feature-rich gameplay that rewards patience.
