Elf Coin Hunt Slot Review
Snow settles on a cobbled village street, lanterns throw amber light over garland-wrapped gateposts, and somewhere behind the lit cottage windows an elf is hoarding coins. Elf Coin Hunt deliberately starves its main game so the bonus round can have everything, and the split is more extreme than most collect slots dare.
Evoplay have made it the wrapping for a hold-and-collect bonus game with a proper jackpot ladder, and the wrapping suits what’s inside. It runs on a 5×3 grid with 20 fixed paylines, at an RTP of 96.31%, with stakes from 0.10 to 10,000.00 per spin.
The collect-style Bonus Game is where nearly all the interest lives, because that’s where the four jackpots sit. The studio’s other titles, like Honey Royale and Piggy Bank: Coinstorm, work similar collect-and-hold territory, and Elf Coin Hunt stands up well beside them.
Symbols and Pays
Wins form left to right across the 20 paylines, and only the highest combination on each line pays. The paytable is classic fruit-machine fare, dressed for winter, with ten regular symbols topped by a Diamond.
The Wild is an elf, appears only on reels two to five in the main game, and substitutes for all regular symbols except the Bonus symbols.
- Diamond: 2 pays x0.5, 3 pays x3, 4 pays x20, 5 pays x100
- BAR: 3 pays x2, 4 pays x15, 5 pays x30
- Bell: 3 pays x2, 4 pays x10, 5 pays x20
- Watermelon: 3 pays x1, 4 pays x7, 5 pays x15
- Grapes: 3 pays x1, 4 pays x5, 5 pays x10
- Orange / Lemon: 3 pays x0.5, 4 pays x1.5, 5 pays x5
- Plum / Holly and Mistletoe / Cherry: 3 pays x0.5, 4 pays x1, 5 pays x3
Bonus Symbols and the Trigger
Four Bonus symbols exist: Red, Purple, Green and Gold. Each carries a random value, from 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x, 10x, 12x, 15x, 30x, 90x or 300x the total bet, up to the MINI, MINOR or MAJOR jackpots.
Red, Purple and Green appear only in the main game, and landing any of them gives a chance of triggering the Bonus Game with its matching booster. A Bonus symbol landing is never a guarantee. The round can start with one, two or all three boosters active at once, which is where most of the variety comes from.
The Bonus Game
When the round starts, every Red, Purple and Green Bonus symbol from the triggering spin turns into a Gold Bonus symbol carrying the same value. The normal reels are replaced by special reels holding only Gold Bonus symbols and empty spaces.
It starts with three spins, and every new Gold symbol that lands sticks and resets the count to three. The round runs until the spins run out or all 15 positions fill with Gold symbols. At the end, the values of every Gold symbol on the field are totalled and paid as one win, at the same bet as the triggering spin.
Bonus symbol values only pay in this round, never in the main game.
The Three Boosters
Collector
Tied to the Purple Bonus. At the end of any bonus spin, a Collector symbol can drop into a random empty position, scoop up the values and jackpots from every Bonus symbol on that field, and then turn into a regular Bonus symbol itself.
The first Collector is guaranteed at the end of the first bonus spin, so every Purple-triggered round gets at least one sweep.
Double Game
Tied to the Red Bonus. A second bonus field is added at the start of the feature, and Bonus symbols from the bottom field are duplicated into the matching positions on the top one. Both fields then spin independently, and at the end the prizes from both are summed into the total.
The round only closes when both fields have finished.
Extra Spin
Tied to the Green Bonus, and it’s the simplest of the three: the starting spin count rises from three to four. That’s one extra chance to land a resetting Gold symbol before the counter runs down.
Jackpots
Four jackpots sit above the base action, and they’re what the whole collect structure is reaching for. Filling all 15 positions with Bonus symbols of any type claims the GRAND, and with the Double Game booster in play there’s a chance of two GRANDs in a single round, one for each field.
- GRAND: 3000x the bet, for filling all 15 positions
- MAJOR: 300x the bet, via a MAJOR Bonus symbol
- MINOR: 90x the bet, via a MINOR Bonus symbol
- MINI: 30x the bet, via a MINI Bonus symbol
The GRAND sits at the top of everything the bonus is climbing towards, and it’s the only prize the game doesn’t hand you through a single symbol.
Bonus Buy
Where it’s available, the Bonus Buy skips the chance trigger and starts the Bonus Game immediately, with your choice of booster loadout. After purchase, the reels spin and hand out the Red, Purple and Green symbols that open the round, played at the bet used to buy it.
It can only be used in the main game, and it isn’t offered in every market.
- Bonus Game with 1-3 random boosters: 67x total bet, RTP 96.54%
- Bonus Game with all 3 boosters: 121x total bet, RTP 95.79%
The full loadout carries a slightly lower return than the random pick, which is a fair price for the guarantee of all three boosters working together. Both buys sit close enough to the main game’s 96.31% that neither is a trap.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.7/10
This is a game of patient waiting in a very pretty waiting room. Most of your time goes to fruit symbols and small pays in the snow, and the one reason you’d pick it over plainer collect slots is that the bonus is genuinely worth the wait: the village street, the lanterns and the drifting snow make the lean stretches easy to sit through.
Its best idea is that the boosters actually matter. Because the Collector is guaranteed on the first spin of every Purple round, a bad trigger still pays something, and the Double Game can end with two full fields of coins. Too many collect slots run one interchangeable round; this one runs several different games depending on how it starts.
The weakness is just as clear: the main game is thin, and a chance-based trigger means no amount of Bonus symbols guarantees you’ll ever see the good part. It suits players who enjoy the slow build towards one big collect. For festive-slot players after a bonus that rewards patience, the elf’s hoard is worth the trek through the snow.
