Golden Dragon Inferno Slot Review
Golden dragons coil up red lacquered pillars on either side of the reels, their heads meeting gold scroll-work at the top of an ornate Chinese palace gateway. Betsoft have built a game where the reels barely matter: Golden Dragon Inferno’s real money sits locked inside its bonus round, and everything else is the walk there.
It runs on a 5×3 grid with 243 ways to win, paying left to right for adjacent combinations. A five-of-a-kind premium pays 1.20x the total bet, which tells you exactly where the value isn’t. It sits in the same lacquered family as Super Golden Dragon Inferno, and shares studio shelf space with Hot Lucky 7s and Triple Lucky 8’s. The fire is real; the question is how much quiet you’ll sit through to reach it.
The Base Game: 243 Ways and Stacked Mystery Symbols
Wins are awarded for left-to-right adjacent symbol combinations across the 243 ways. Only the highest win per way pays, and coinciding wins on different ways are combined. It’s a familiar setup, and the game doesn’t complicate it: payouts adjust dynamically to the selected bet.
The Stacked Mystery Symbols give the reels most of their movement. Every reel carries stacked mystery positions, and after the spin settles they’re all replaced with one randomly chosen symbol. Because every mystery position on every reel converts to the same symbol, a full screen of matching premium symbols is always in play.
Mystery positions can turn into Buddha, Gold Ingot, Turtle, Frog or any of the four royals, but never a Wild or a Bonus icon. The Wild appears on reels two, three, four and five only, and substitutes for everything except the round fire Bonus icon and the MINI, MINOR and MAJOR symbols.
The paytable, as multiples of the total bet:
- Buddha (green) – 0.12x for two, 0.40x for three, 0.80x for four, 1.20x for five
- Gold Ingot (orange) – 0.12x for two, 0.40x for three, 0.80x for four, 1.20x for five
- Turtle (purple) – 0.12x for two, 0.40x for three, 0.80x for four, 1.20x for five
- Frog (blue) – 0.12x for two, 0.40x for three, 0.80x for four, 1.20x for five
- A, K, Q, J – 0.04x for two, 0.20x for three, 0.48x for four, 0.80x for five
Those are thin numbers at the top end. A five-of-a-kind premium returns 1.20x the total bet, so most of the real money in this game lives in the features rather than on the reels. Even the two-of-a-kind premiums, at 0.12x, only paper over a losing spin.
The base game carries two features to bridge that gap:
- Stacked Mystery Symbols – one random symbol fills all mystery positions after every spin
- Nudging Multiplier Wild Reel – a partial Wild Reel stack on reel three nudges into a full multiplier reel
Nudging Multiplier Wild Reel
The middle of the game’s name lives on reel three. A partial stack of Wild Reel there will nudge up or down to fill the whole reel, creating a Full Wild Reel. That reel then carries a random multiplier, applied to any winning combination it forms part of.
The possible multipliers:
- 2x, 3x, 5x, 8x or 10x – awarded at random when the Full Wild Reel completes
The Multiplier Wild Reel substitutes for all symbols except the round fire icon, MINI, MINOR and MAJOR. There’s a built-in second chance, too: if the Full Wild Reel produces no win, it holds in place on reel three and the rest of the reels take a free respin, played at the triggering bet.
That respin can only happen once per spin, and winning combinations are evaluated and paid once it’s done. The Hold & Win Bonus can’t trigger on the same spin as the Nudging Multiplier Wild Reel, so the two features never overlap.
Hold & Win Bonus
The round arrives when at least six scattered Bonus icons land anywhere on the reels. Each Bonus symbol can carry a prize value between 1.00 and 10.00, or one of the ladder labels: MINI, MINOR or MAJOR. The triggering symbols lock in place and three respins are awarded.
Every new Bonus symbol that lands anywhere on the reels locks in place and resets the respin count to three. That reset is the engine of the round: a single lucky streak of locks can keep it running far longer than three spins, while a bare run of misses ends it quickly.
The round finishes when the respins run out or all fifteen positions fill with Bonus symbols. Every locked prize is paid at the end, and the ladder steps up like this:
- MINI – 15x the bet, per locked MINI symbol
- MINOR – 30x the bet, per locked MINOR symbol
- MAJOR – 200x the bet, per locked MAJOR symbol
- GRAND – 2,000x the bet, for locking all fifteen positions
Regular symbol prizes aren’t paid during the bonus, and the round plays at the bet of the triggering spin. Fill all fifteen positions and the GRAND arrives on top of the locked values, which makes every late respin with a near-full grid worth watching. Reaching the GRAND means locking all fifteen Bonus symbols.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7/10
You come here to count respins, not to read the paytable. Time on the reels is a comfortable wait in a very pretty Chinese palace hall, and the reason somebody chooses this game is that one round where every lock restarts the clock and the ladder climbs.
The strength is that round. The respin reset builds real tension, and because MINI, MINOR, MAJOR and the 2,000x GRAND each pay per locked symbol, a single round can keep paying well after it started. The weakness is the walk between rounds: five premium symbols return 1.20x the bet, so the base game never funds the wait.
It suits Hold & Win players who want one round done properly and nothing else to keep track of. Chasers of big base-game wins will find the lacquer thicker than the payouts, and the dragons will keep the gate warm while the patient collect.
