Hallowins Slot Review
Underneath its full moon and grinning jack-o’-lanterns, Hallowins is a game that doesn’t really want you to win in the base game. Its line pays are among the flattest you’ll find on a 5×4 grid, and everything above pocket change has been pushed into duel multipliers and three separate bonus rounds. Caleta Gaming have drawn a moonlit graveyard full of hand-drawn charm, then hidden a genuinely spiteful maths model behind it.
It runs on a 5×4 grid with 15 paylines, high volatility, an RTP of 96.06% and a maximum win of 15,000x the bet. That’s a serious ceiling for a game this pretty, and it puts Hallowins in ambitious company alongside Caleta’s High Bounty. The question is whether the features underneath the pumpkins can reach it.
Symbols, Wilds and 15 Paylines
Wins are paid for matching symbols on any of the 15 paylines, on adjacent reels from left to right, starting from the leftmost reel. It’s a classic line setup, and every bet is eligible for all winning combinations. The pumpkin Wild substitutes for all symbols except the Spider Web, Monster Hunt and Dark Harvest symbols, and it’s tied for the richest pay in the game.
The monsters do the heavy lifting at the top of the paytable, with the royals filling the gaps. All values are multiples of the total bet:
- Vampire/Dracula: 2x for three, 10x for four, 20x for five
- Wild (Pumpkin): 20x for five
- Frankenstein/Zombie: 1x for three, 5x for four, 10x for five
- Devil: 1x for three, 5x for four, 10x for five
- Werewolf: 0.5x for three, 2.5x for four, 5x for five
- Clown: 0.5x for three, 2.5x for four, 5x for five
- A, K, Q, J, 10: 0.1x for three, 0.5x for four, 1x for five
That’s a flat paytable by modern standards. Five Dracula symbols at 20x the bet won’t move the needle on its own, which tells you where the real money is meant to come from: the VS symbols and the bonus rounds, not the line wins.
The VS Symbol
The VS symbol is where the big base game wins come from, and it’s a conditional one: it expands only if, once expanded, it becomes part of at least one winning combination. No win, no expansion. When it does expand, it covers the entire reel and reveals a hunter and a zombie, each carrying a different multiplier.
The two then duel, and the winner’s multiplier is applied to the entire reel, which also turns Wild. If more than one VS symbol expands, their multiplier values are added together and the total is applied to the line wins. The available multipliers run from 2x up to 100x.
- Available multipliers: 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 9x, 10x, 20x, 25x, 50x, 100x
- Multiple expanding VS symbols add their multipliers together
- If a VS symbol expands on every reel, the entire grid turns Wild
- VS symbols appear in the base game and in Monster Hunt
That full-grid scenario is the dream, and at 100x multipliers stacking across five reels it’s where the 15,000x ceiling becomes theoretically reachable. It’s also, by design, rare.
Spider Web
Landing three or more Spider Web symbols in the base game triggers the Spider Web feature and awards 10 free spins. The hook is simple: every Wild symbol that lands stays sticky in its position until the end of the feature.
Ten spins of accumulating sticky Wilds on a 5×4 grid is a recipe for a busy board by the end, and with Wilds paying as top symbols as well as substituting, a well-timed late drop can turn several lines at once. It’s the most conventional of the three bonuses. On a flat paytable it needs those sticky stacks to produce anything memorable.
Monster Hunt
Three or more Monster Hunt symbols in the base game trigger Monster Hunt, which also awards 10 free spins. The difference is in what the round emphasises: during this feature, VS symbols appear more often than in the base game.
That single change makes Monster Hunt the volatile sibling of Spider Web. More VS symbols means more hunter-versus-zombie duels, more reels turning Wild and more chances at stacked multipliers, at the cost of the sticky-Wild safety net. Where Spider Web builds steadily, Monster Hunt swings.
Dark Harvest
Dark Harvest is the feature the game is named for in spirit, and it’s played in two phases: a Collect Phase and a Spins Phase. Three or more Dark Harvest symbols in the base game trigger it.
In the Collect Phase, the goal is to collect as many Wild and Ghost symbols as possible. Collected Wilds are shown above the reels on the left, and the total multiplier value is shown on the right. The phase starts with three spins, and each time a Wild or Ghost symbol is collected, the remaining spins reset to three. The phase ends after three consecutive spins with nothing collected.
Only Wild and Ghost symbols count during the Collect Phase; all other symbols award nothing. The feature then moves to the Spins Phase, which awards three spins. On each spin, the collected Wilds are placed on the grid and all wins are multiplied by the total collected multiplier.
It’s a hold-and-collect structure with a reset mechanic, and it’s the one bonus here that can snowball. A lucky Collect Phase loads the grid with Wilds and a multiplier built from every Ghost gathered along the way, then pays it all out across just three spins.
A short Collect Phase, by contrast, hands you a thin board and a small multiplier, and there’s no floor under it.
Buy Feature
In the base game, you can buy any of the three bonus features using the Buy Feature button, which opens a purchase menu where you select the bonus you’d like. Spider Web runs at 96.05% RTP when bought, Monster Hunt at 96.05%, and Dark Harvest at 96.06%.
Those are honest numbers, with no premium charged for skipping the wait. The Buy Feature menu may not be available in every casino, depending on jurisdiction.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.7/10
Hallowins spends long stretches giving you almost nothing, then makes up for it in bursts. Somebody chooses it for the duels: hunters against zombies, with the winner’s multiplier flattening a whole reel, and that fight is the reason to sit through the quiet graveyard in between.
The best thing here is that three of the four features feed the same VS mechanic rather than padding the game out with filler rounds. The worst is that the base game is genuinely thin: five of the top symbol pay just 20x, so between bonuses there’s often nothing happening at all.
This is one for players who want high volatility, don’t mind feeding a flat paytable, and like knowing they can buy their way past it when the moon hangs around too long. Anyone after steady small wins will find this graveyard cold. It’s a night out for the patient, and the patient are rewarded.
