Knockoin Slot Review
Retro platformer nostalgia usually gets as far as the artwork and stops there, all pixel fonts and chiptune loops laid over a perfectly ordinary set of reels. Knockoin gets more out of the genre than that, and Croco Gaming have built the feature set out of platformer furniture rather than hanging it on the walls.
It’s a 5×3 game with 20 paylines, 96.27% RTP in normal play and medium volatility, and each of the four buy options runs its own RTP a little above that. Wins are capped at 15,000x.
That ceiling sits under the 25,000x and 50,000x numbers plenty of current releases lead with, and it’s nowhere near decorative. Ander Meegan is the other Croco Gaming title in our reviews.
On presentation it lands closest to Retro Tapes, where nostalgia does most of the heavy lifting. Sweet Rush Fiesta is the more single-minded alternative if you’d rather climb multipliers than follow events.
Base Game & Features
Knockoin runs on a 5×3 grid with 20 paylines. Above the reels sits a separate row of Boxes, and that row is where most of the game’s activity comes from.
The Boxes
Every spin shifts each Box one reel to the left, so the row above the reels never stays the same for long. Two types turn up.
Simple Boxes can reveal a Gold Coin worth 1x to 10x, a Golden Box that awards the Wheel of Fortune Feature, or no reward at all.
Mystery Boxes reveal larger Gold Coins of 2x to 20x, a Power-Up Mushroom worth one respin with the Spray Maw guaranteed, or a Golden Pipe that triggers the Secret Level Bonus Game.
Rio Wild and the Spray Maw
Boxes don’t open by themselves. When the Rio Wild lands directly below one, Rio jumps up and reveals that Box’s reward, after which the Box turns empty and can’t be activated again.
The Spray Maw works differently. It can trigger on any spin, throwing two to five Egg Wilds onto random reel positions, though it won’t drop them where another Wild already sits.
Wheel of Fortune Feature
A Golden Box revealed from a Simple Box sends you to the Wheel of Fortune Feature, a 12-sector wheel that pays whatever it lands on and then disables that sector.
It keeps spinning until it hits a sector that’s already gone, or until every sector has been cleared. Values run 1x, 3x, 5x, 8x, 10x, 15x, 30x, 50x, 100x, 200x, 500x and 1,000x.
Knockoin Bonus Features
8 Bit Castle Bonus Game
Three or more Pipe Scatters in the base game trigger the 8 Bit Castle Bonus Game. Three scatters award 10 free spins, four award 12 and five award 15.
The Boxes stop moving for the duration. They hold position and can be activated more than once.
Reels 2 and 4 always carry Mystery Boxes, while reels 1, 3 and 5 carry Regular Boxes that always reveal a reward.
The Power-Up Mushroom upgrades to a Golden Power-Up Mushroom in this round, awarding respins that continue until a winning spin lands.
Secret Level Bonus Game
The Golden Pipe from a Mystery Box opens the Secret Level Bonus Game, which is only reachable from the base game. It starts with three refilling spins.
Every Box on screen holds a Gold Coin reward worth 2x to 200x, and each one can be activated repeatedly.
Rather than counting down a fixed number of spins, the round ends once three consecutive spins pass without a single Box being activated.
Crash Mini Game
Once the Secret Level ends, there’s an optional Crash Mini Game. A balloon climbs and a multiplier climbs with it, from 1x as far as 960x, and you collect before it bursts or lose the Gold Coins win entirely.
The game’s own information screen states that optimal RTP is achieved by not playing it.
Buy Bonus
Four routes into the features can be bought from the Buy Bonus menu, and each one carries its own RTP:

Both Special Spins modes stay switched on until you disable them manually, which matters more for Rio Spins than it does for Bonus Boost.
With bonus games disabled in that mode, Rio Spins locks you out of both 8 Bit Castle and the Secret Level for as long as it’s left running.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.2/10
The base game held our attention longer than expected, because there’s always a row of Boxes to follow while the reels get on with it.
Quieter stretches were tolerable rather than gripping, and the Boxes often looked more interesting than the wins underneath them.
8 Bit Castle built up gradually instead of exploding, and it felt like a proper round rather than ten spins with better symbols.
The Secret Level was the pick of the two. Two spins in with nothing activating, it looked finished, then Rio opened another Box and kept it alive.
Then the balloon turns up and asks whether you fancy risking the lot, which is a strange way to end the best feature in the game. Fun once.
The 15,000x cap is a serious ceiling rather than a decorative one, though it never felt close.
Worth a session if you like plenty to track and retro furniture to track it on. Give it a miss if you want something simple. Most of what makes Knockoin worth playing is hidden a level down.
