Massive Xmas Staxx Slot Review
A Christmas freight wagon rolls through a starry winter night, snow-capped and strung with baubles, a giant pink-and-gold star hanging in the sky beside it. But Massive Xmas Staxx isn’t really a Christmas game – it’s a timing game wearing tinsel, and almost every decision you make comes down to one question: will the Collect land before the Booster resets?
Snowborn Games has built it on the same bones as Massive Gold MAXXED and Massive Gold, three features deep on a 5×3 grid with 20 fixed paylines, medium volatility and a 96.00% RTP. Stakes run from 0.20 to 40 per spin, and the top prize on the ladder is a 5,000x Mega jackpot.
Base Game & Features
The base game is where most of Massive Xmas Staxx’s systems live. Payline wins run left to right from the first reel, only the highest combination counts per line, and wins on different lines add together. Scatter wins pay wherever the Xmas Spins symbols land. The wild lands on all reels, substitutes for everything except the feature symbols, and can form its own winning line.
Four special symbols do the real work, each with its own job:
- Gold Bar – lands on reels 1 to 4, values from 0.2x to 10x the bet, may randomly trigger the Bonus
- Staxx – lands on reels 1 to 4, expands to reveal extra prize symbols
- Collect – lands on reel 5 only, triggers Collect Wins
- 1UP – lands on any reel, raises the Xmas Booster
Xmas Booster
The Xmas Booster is a multiplier that applies to Collect Wins and never to payline wins. In the base game, every 1UP symbol that lands pushes it up a level, from 1x to a maximum of 10x. Once it’s used in a Collect Win, it resets to 1x and the climb starts again.
Collect Wins
The Gold Bar and Staxx values on the reels are the raw material for this feature. When the Collect symbol lands on reel 5, it pays out the total of every Gold Bar and Staxx value on screen, multiplied by the current Xmas Booster. The tension sits in whether the Collect lands before the Booster resets.
Staxx Symbol Expansion
When a Staxx symbol lands on the top or middle row, it drops to the bottom row and expands vertically, revealing between three and eight additional symbols with individual cash prizes added to the total. One last symbol closes the reveal, and it can bring a cash payout, a 1UP or a jackpot.
The jackpot ladder pays fixed multiples of the bet:
- Mini: 10x the bet
- Minor: 20x the bet
- Major: 100x the bet
- Mega: 5,000x the bet
Which prizes that closing symbol can bring depends on where you are. In the base game it’s cash, a 1UP, or the Mini, Minor or Major. In Xmas Spins the Mini or Minor. In Blizzard Spins, cash or the Mini or Minor. The Mega prize belongs to the Bonus feature alone.
Massive Xmas Staxx Bonus Features
Xmas Spins
Landing three Xmas Spins scatters on reels 1, 3 and 5 triggers Xmas Spins, which awards 10 spins to start. The Xmas Booster begins at 1x and can climb all the way to 50x, and each time the trail reaches a new multiplier level, three extra spins are awarded. A run of 1UPs keeps the round alive as well as raising the stakes.
The multiplier ladder in this feature runs:
- 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x, 10x, 20x and 50x
Gold Bars, Staxx symbols, Collects and 1UPs all keep landing during the feature, so the Booster and the Collect Wins work exactly as they do in the base game, only with a taller ladder. Bets and lines stay the same as the triggering spin. The round ends when the spins run out, and neither the Bonus nor Blizzard Spins can fire inside it.
Blizzard Spins
Collecting a Blizzard symbol on all five reels in the base game triggers Blizzard Spins. It starts with five spins and the Booster at 1x, and there are six Blizzard stages. Collecting three Blizzard symbols advances a stage, awarding five additional spins and a higher Booster multiplier.
Here the ladder skips the 2x step:
- 1x, 3x, 5x, 10x, 20x and 50x
If the spins run out before the next stage is reached, Blizzard Collect activates: the reels spin at the current multiplier until a Collect Wins lands. The feature can’t end dry. Neither Xmas Spins nor the Bonus is reachable from inside it.
Bonus
The Bonus fires at random off a base-game Gold Bar, and it plays completely differently from the other two features. It awards three bonus spins on a grid that fills with just two symbol types: Gold Bars and Prize symbols. Gold Bars stay in position until the end.
Any symbol that lands on any reel resets the spin counter to three, so the round keeps running while symbols keep arriving. The Prize symbols are the four jackpots, and each has its own meter. The first two of a kind to land are collected into the meter and removed from the reels. The third marks that prize as won and stays put.
So a jackpot needs three matching Prize symbols across the round, and the 5,000x Mega goes one further: it’s only awarded by filling every position on the grid. When the spins finally expire, or the grid fills, the total pays out as all Gold Bar values plus any prizes won. A Blank symbol can also land, doing nothing, and no other feature triggers inside this one.
Buy Bonus
Both major features can be bought from the base game for a single payment, played at the current bet:
- Xmas Spins: 60x the bet, RTP 96.14%
- Blizzard Spins: 100x the bet, RTP 96.50%
The buy doesn’t affect the Xmas Booster, and it isn’t available above a certain bet threshold. It’s a base-game option only.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.7/10
Playing Massive Xmas Staxx is a waiting game dressed as a sleigh ride. You spend most of your time watching a multiplier climb and hoping the Collect arrives before it resets, and that loop, simple as it is, is the reason to load this one over its siblings: three features built around it instead of one.
Its best idea is the Blizzard Collect. A feature that keeps spinning until something pays takes the sting out of a run that dies on the last spin, and the stage ladder gives a bad round a shape instead of a shrug. Its weakest is the theme’s shallowness – swap the baubles for gold bars and you’d be playing Massive Gold, and nothing in the features would notice.
It suits players who enjoy a long build and want a 5,000x jackpot to aim at along the way. Anyone chasing wild mechanics or big line wins will find the paytable does little work here. For collectors of the formula, though, this is the cosiest wagon in the fleet.
