Monopoly Megapots Slot Review
Dark-red skyscrapers stack in layers behind a gilded reel cabinet, cream panels printed with faint sunburst fans, a gold arch sweeping the lettering over the top. Plenty of branded slots borrow their theme’s pictures and none of its logic; Big Time Gaming have done the opposite, wiring Monopoly’s property arithmetic directly into this art-deco machine.
The argument here is that the licence does real work: Monopoly’s Houses, Hotels and Cards aren’t stickers on an unrelated mechanic, they’re the working parts of the bonus rounds and the jackpot ladder above the reels. Monopoly Megapots runs six reels with variable row heights, carries an overall RTP of 96.45%, stakes from 0.10 to 10 per spin and a 98,850x ceiling, and sits alongside Bonanza Megaways, Extra Chilli and Bonanza Megapays in the studio’s catalogue. Mr. Monopoly, it turns out, still collects rent.
The Reels and the Ways
Six reels, each carrying a varying number of rows on every spin, with the ways count updating in the footer as the layout changes. Observed counts ranged from 4,600 to 14,700 ways, so the win space shifts considerably from one spin to the next.
The extra reel sits below reels two to five and adds one symbol to each of those reels, which is where plenty of last-minute wins come from. Wins pay left to right on consecutive reels, symbol height irrelevant, and only the highest win per combination counts.
Winning symbols then react: they vanish and replacements drop in from above the reels and from the right end of the extra reel. Chains keep paying as long as new wins form, which is the engine that makes a variable grid feel busy.
The wild substitutes for everything except Coin, House, Card and Scatter, and it only ever appears on the extra reel. The paying symbols are the Monopoly pieces, and their values as multiples of the total bet are:
- Top Hat: 1x for two, 1.5x for three, 2.5x for four, 3.5x for five, 10x for six
- Battleship: 0.4x for three, 0.6x for four, 0.7x for five, 1x for six
- Car and Dog: 0.3x for three, 0.5x for four, 0.6x for five, 0.8x for six
Scatters land on the main reels only and don’t appear on the extra reel outside of Free Spins. Coins, Houses and Cards don’t sit on the extra reel either, except during the Hold and Spin round, where they’re the whole point.
Hold and Spin and the Megapots Ladder
Land six or more Coins, Houses or Cards anywhere on the grid and the Hold and Spin takes over. You get three respins, every symbol on screen becomes its own reel that can reveal more of the bonus symbols, and each new symbol that appears tops the respin count back up to three.
Three collect mechanics drive the round:
- Coin Bonus Prizes depend on how many symbols sit in a reel: up to 10x stake for two or three, up to 5.5x for four or five, up to 3x for six or more. They’re awarded during Hold and Spin only.
- Hotel: four Houses merge into a Hotel, which collects all Coins on screen and adds a multiplier between x2 and x200 to each position the merge frees up. A Coin landing on a multiplied position has its value multiplied.
- Card merges: three matching Blue, Red or Purple Cards become a Mini, Midi or Mega Megapots icon respectively, and three matching Megapots icons pay that tier’s amount.
The Megapots Tiers
Mini, Midi and Mega sit above the reels at all times, holding random prizes that refresh on every spin, and they can only be won inside the Hold and Spin. The ranges, as multiples of stake, run from modest to enormous:
- Mini: 100 to 300x
- Midi: 1,000 to 8,888x
- Mega: 20,888 to 88,888x
Those three figures ticking over between spins are the quiet theatre of the base game. The serious money in Monopoly Megapots is stored in that top tier, and the gap between Midi and Mega, more than a tenfold jump, is where the 98,850x ceiling starts to feel reachable.
Free Spins
The scatter route into the bonus pays 10 Free Spins, with two more added for every Scatter beyond the third. The triggering stake holds for the whole round.
The round runs an unlimited win multiplier that starts at 1 and climbs by one for every Coin, House or Card in view. Two catches worth knowing: the multiplier doesn’t apply to Hold and Spin wins, and Scatters appear only on the extra reel during Free Spins, which makes retriggers a narrower target.
Retriggers come in two sizes: land three Scatters for 5 extra spins, or all four for 10. Coins landing during the round feed the multiplier rather than paying their usual Bonus Prizes, so the symbol economy shifts the moment Free Spins begin.
Bonus Buy
Both main rounds are available to buy, and both buys run at the same 96.45% RTP as the rest of the game:
- 10 Free Spins: 100 times the Free Spins Stake
- Hold and Spin bonus: 35 times the Free Spins Stake
The Free Spins Stake is adjustable with the plus and minus buttons and applies to every spin in the bought round. Availability depends on your jurisdiction.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.8/10
This is a slot about waiting for one round. Nearly every base spin is spent watching Coins, Houses and Cards accumulate towards six while three jackpot figures tick over above the reels, and that slow build towards the Hold and Spin is the entire reason to sit down at it.
The best thing here is that the round earns the wait: merge multipliers up to x200, respins that keep resetting, and a top tier that genuinely dwarfs the two below it. The worst thing is that the paytable can’t support the wait, with a full line of the best symbol paying a flat 10x, so the long stretches between bonuses pay almost nothing.
It’s built for players who like a chase with visible tiers and a jackpot worth chasing. Anyone after frequent features or a rich base game won’t find it here. For patient jackpot hunters, though, the art-deco city is a handsome place to hold out for the Mega.
