Naughty Nick’s Book Slot Review 2024

Get ready to witness a version of Santa you thought you’d never see as he chooses naughty over nice in Play’n GO’s latest Christmas release, Naughty Nick’s Book!

‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house…cigarettes, booze and an intoxicated Santa passed out! Join a rather naughty Nick and his band of Stockin’ Stuffers as they tell a different Christmas Eve story this year.

From the legends behind Book of Dead and Legacy of Dead, Play’n GO are working their magic once more and just in time for Christmas, with a brand new festive addition to join the ‘Book’ family.

Naughty Nick’s Book acts as both Wild and Scatter across the reels. Landing 3 will unwrap Free Spins where Naughty Nick’s head Elf impatiently waits, eager to tear apart the wrapped sixth-reel. With 6 reels in play, the chosen Expanding symbol will gift you more opportunities to win big!

Christmas is a time for giving and Play’n GO has gone one step further by introducing a Gamble feature which gives you a Christmas coin-flippin’ chance to either double or quadruple your wins by guessing the correct suit.

Will we fall victim to Naughty Nick’s dirty tricks? Let’s play on and find out!

Naughty Nick's Book Base Game

Naughty Nick’s Book Base Game and Features

Naughty Nick’s Book is a 5-6 reel slot with 10 fixed paylines. Winning combinations are formed when 3 or more of the same symbol (or 2 or more of any High-paying symbol) land from left to right, starting from the left-most reel.

The minimum bet available to players is £/€0.10 per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€20 per spin, with plenty of other betting options in between the two. Adjusting the coin value, coins and total number of lines, drops the minimum bet to as low as £/€0.01 per spin.

In terms of symbols, the highest paying regular symbol here is Naughty Nick, followed by Rude-olf, Rupert the Rascal and Eric Elf. Low-paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ten.

Naughty Nick’s Book acts as both Wild and Scatter and substitutes for all High and Low-paying symbols in the paytable. Nuaghty Nick’s Book has a theoretical RTP of 96.28% and a max win cap of 7,500x.

In the base game, you will be able to Gamble your current win for more. To gamble, you will need to choose either a Colour or Suit of a playing card, up to a total of 5 times.

Other than the Gamble feature, there isn’t much going on in the base game as far as features and modifiers are concerned, but will the Free Spins round quickly make up for this?

Naughty Nick’s Book Free Spins

Landing 3, 4, 5 or 6 of Wild Scatters across the reels triggers the Free Spins round, awarding 8 Free Spins and a payout of 2x, 20x, 200x and 500x your current bet respectively.

Once active, the wrapped 6th reel will be unwrapped by Eric Elf and activated. During Free Spins, the game will choose 1 High or Low-paying symbol to become your Expanding symbol.

The chosen Expanding symbol will form winning combinations across non-adjacent reels. When so many of your Expanding symbol land in view across the reels, they will expand to fill the entire reels they are on.

Landing 3 or more Wild Scatters during this round will award additional Free Spins.

Naughty Nick’s Book: Our Verdict

Funnily enough, Naughty Nick’s Book isn’t the only ‘Santa behaving badly’ slot this year, but just how bad is Naughty Nick? and just how good is the game itself?

At it’s core Naughty Nick’s Book is a ‘Book of’ style slot, but with an extra reel to amp up the excitement in Free Spins. It’s nothing really different to what we’ve experience before with the exception of the out-of-character art style from Play’n GO, but it’s pretty decent nonetheless.

Book style slots never seem to waver in popularity, and the potential here looks very good at 7,500x. You’d probably need a full 6 reels of the highest paying symbol to see it, and it’s unlikely to happen to many, but there’s definite potential in Naughty Nick’s Book regardless.

We’d have preferred a dynamic whereby a re-trigger awards another symbol, rather than more spins at the one you already have. There seems to be a weird distinction between Book games and ‘legacy’ games, and only the Legacy games seem to offer multiple expanding symbols in a bonus round.

All in all, Naughty Nick’s Book is a fine festive slot if you’re in the market for such a thing and you’ve an affinity for Book Games.
