Notre-Dame Tales GigaBlox Slot Review
Bunting strung between the cathedral and the rooftops, a market cart heaped with produce, and small silhouetted townsfolk milling on the steps: Notre-Dame Tales GigaBlox stages a festival day in medieval Paris, painted in a warm dusk palette of pink and lilac clouds. The gentlest slot Yggdrasil have wrapped around their most muscular mechanic – every spin of this 5×4, 25-payline grid merges adjacent reels into oversized symbols, so even a game that looks like a picture book never plays a small spin.
The rest of the spec backs the contrast up. Medium-high volatility, 96% RTP, and a free spins round where the reels extend and those merged symbols grow to 6×6. Sister titles like Hades Gigablox, Lucky Neko Gigablox and Golden Fish Tank 2 Gigablox cover similar ground, but none of them with a gothic cathedral behind the reels.
Base Game & Features
The grid sits flush against the cathedral’s stone facade, carved arches and a pointed gothic doorway framing the five reels. A striped market awning and a horse-drawn cart fill the bottom-left corner, with more stalls and a crenellated tower on the right, so there’s something to look at in every corner of the screen. The festival dressing never sits still either: bunting swags across both sides in pink, green, yellow and orange, with a loose flag drifting down over the lower right.
Underneath the artwork, the setup is straightforward. The essentials at a glance:
- 5×4 grid with 25 fixed paylines
- 96% RTP, medium-high volatility
- Hit frequency of 25.5%, so roughly one spin in four produces a win
- Stakes from 0.25 to 100 per spin
- Gigablox oversized symbols on every spin
- Golden Bet toggle for extra feature picks
Wins pay left to right across the 25 fixed lines, and only the highest combination on each line counts. Connected reels can merge anywhere on the grid, so a giant block landing on the middle reels is just as eligible as one on the outer edge.
The Wild substitutes for all regular symbols and carries its own payout on top of that. That second part matters more than it sounds, because a wild that pays its own way can do real work on a 25-line grid rather than filling in as a spare part.
Gigablox
Gigablox is the engine of the whole game. On any spin, at least two adjacent reels connect to form a single oversized symbol, which can grow as large as 4×4. How it works, step by step:
- At least two adjacent reels connect at the start of a spin
- The symbols on those reels merge into one giant block, up to 4×4 in the base game
- The block lands as a single oversized symbol, counting as that many individual symbols for payline purposes
- Wins evaluate across all 25 lines with the giant symbol filling every position it covers
A 4×4 block covering sixteen positions can complete lines no ordinary spin could, and that’s where the base game’s bigger wins come from. When several blocks land on the same spin, the connected reels can chain together and the screen fills fast.
It scales up in Free Spins. The reels extend there, and Gigablox can reach up to 6×6, which changes the arithmetic of the round considerably. Thirty-six positions of a single symbol is a different game entirely.
Golden Bet
Before you spin, you can toggle the Golden Bet on. It adds 20% to the cost of every spin, and in exchange you get an extra pick from the Extra Features on offer when the bonus round arrives. Given how much of this game’s value is loaded into those picks, that’s a meaningful upgrade rather than a token one.
The maths of the toggle is simple enough to hold in your head. At a stake of 1 it makes each spin cost 1.20, and at the top stake of 100 it becomes 120. Whether the extra pick justifies that premium depends on how much you value the free spins round, which is where the game keeps most of its rewards.
Notre-Dame Tales GigaBlox Free Spins & Bonus Features
Five or more Free Spins symbols anywhere in the base game unlock the round. From there, the sequence works like this:
- Each Free Spins symbol that landed awards one free spin, so the entry total scales with how many you caught
- You receive three to seven Extra Feature picks for the entire session
- You spend those picks on modifiers before the free spins begin
- Every modifier you chose stays active for the whole round
Because the entry total is one spin per symbol, a five-symbol trigger is the floor and every additional symbol adds directly to your total. The picks, though, are fixed at three to seven for the session regardless of how many symbols triggered it, so the size of the round and the number of modifiers you can stack are two separate dials.
Two of those modifiers are on record. The full details:
- Wild High: one of the high-paying symbols converts into a Wild for the entire session
- x2 multiplier: wins are doubled while the feature is active
Extra Features
The picks are the strategic heart of the bonus. You’re choosing which modifiers ride along, and the combination you settle on shapes every spin of the round. More picks means more stacked modifiers, and that’s exactly what the Golden Bet buys you.
Wild High is the pick that interacts most with the rest of the game. A high-paying symbol turned Wild for the whole session gives the Gigablox blocks a premium symbol to merge into, and a 6×6 block of wilds on extended reels with the x2 multiplier running is the round this game is built around.
The multiplier pick is the blunter instrument, doubling whatever the round produces. It asks nothing of you and gives back exactly what it promises.
Bonus Buy
A Buy Bonus button sits in the base game interface for anyone who’d rather skip the wait and go straight to the feature picks and free spins. It’s the same round you’d reach organically, picks and all, just without the base game in between.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.1/10
You spend most of your time in a pretty base game waiting for five Free Spins symbols, and that’s the honest shape of a session here. The one reason to choose it over its neighbours is that the bonus asks you to build it yourself: three to seven picks, spent on modifiers that stack for the whole round.
That pick system is the strength, and it’s a real one – Wild High feeding the giant blocks turns a lucky round into something you had a hand in shaping. The weakness is the base game itself: outside the Gigablox merges, there’s very little going on between triggers.
It suits players who like a hand on the wheel and don’t mind a long approach to the cathedral, and it will leave anyone chasing constant features cold. For the patient, the bells do eventually ring.
