Play with the Devil Slot Review
There’s a pot-bellied red devil perched on a plinth of gold at the edge of these reels, stroking his chin, and he is the only thing on screen that matters. Play with the Devil pays almost nothing that its wild doesn’t personally unlock – coins, bonus ladders and even the free spins all wait on his one landing spot – which makes it a stranger, more concentrated game than its cheerful cartoon underworld first admits.
The argument of the game is that one wild can carry everything. Red Tiger have built this 5×3, 20 win line slot around a single Devil Wild locked to the centre of the middle reel, with every prize – coins, bonus ladders, free spins – flowing through him. It runs at 95.71% RTP with a 2,523x ceiling, on the modest side of the studio’s Dragon’s Mirror and Vault Cracker output.
How the Base Game Pays
All symbols pay from left to right on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel, across 20 fixed win lines. Wins are multiples of the total bet, not the line bet, so the numbers below are what each combination actually returns against your stake.
Stakes run from 0.1 to 50 per spin, and a winning spin comes in roughly every three – the hit rate is 31.85%. The paytable is short and steep. Here’s every symbol with its three, four and five-of-a-kind values:
- Red Gem: 2x, 4x, 20x
- Blue Swirl: 1.6x, 3x, 10x
- Green Book: 0.8x, 2x, 4x
- Shell and Pearl Pile: 0.4x, 1x, 2.4x
- Ram Horn and Skull: 0.4x, 0.8x, 2x
- A and K: 0.2x, 0.6x, 1.2x
- Q, J and 10: 0.2x, 0.4x, 0.8x
Even the top symbol only returns 20x for five, and the royals sit well below a single spin’s stake for most combinations. There’s a clear gap between the picture symbols and everything else, too: the Green Book’s 4x top pay is five times the best royal, so the character of a spin changes sharply depending on which half of the table shows up.
Nearly a third of spins pay something, but most of those somethings are small. The paytable isn’t where the money lives in this game. The ladder of prizes hanging off the Devil is, and to understand it you need the Devil himself, so he comes first.
The Devil Wild and Devil Coins
Devil Wild
The Devil stands in for every paying symbol, with one restriction: he only ever occupies the central position of the middle reel. If he doesn’t appear there on the initial spin, that central position may randomly respin to try to land him, so the game gets more chances than a single spin suggests to put him in place.
He’s more than a wild. If he lands together with Bonus Prizes or Devil Coins in the same spin, he awards their combined value. He is the key that unlocks everything else on the reels, which is why his one landing spot matters so much.
Devil Coins
Devil Coins are scatters carrying stake multipliers of 0.5x, 1x or 2x. Those prizes are locked until the Devil Wild lands together with the coins; only he unlocks them. Prizes from multiple coins in one spin add up.
A screen full of coins without the Devil pays nothing. That’s the whole tension of the base game in a sentence, and it works both ways: the coins themselves cap at 2x each, so even a generous coin shower needs quantity as well as the unlock to amount to much.
Bonus Prizes
Above the plain coin prizes sits a four-tier bonus ladder, displayed down the left side of the screen and matched by BONUS PRIZE scatter symbols that land on the reels:
- Mini Bonus: 5x
- Minor Bonus: 10x
- Major Bonus: 75x
- Mega Bonus: 1000x
The rule is the same as for the coins: a Bonus Prize scatter only pays when it lands together with the Devil. Multiple scatters in one spin add their prizes together, so a Devil flanked by two bonus tiles collects both on the spot.
There’s a second chance built in, too. If the Devil has landed on the central position, up to seven other symbol positions may respin in search of a Bonus scatter – a wide net for pairing the two up after the initial spin has finished.
That 1000x Mega Bonus is the prize the whole build is angled at. Everything below it is small change by comparison, and the ladder is steep rather than graduated: the jump from Major at 75x to Mega at 1000x is more than thirteen times the previous step, far wider than any gap between the tiers beneath it.
Free Spins
Each time the Devil takes his position, fireballs fly at one or both of the chests above the reels. There’s a chance the chests randomly activate from this, triggering free spins. One chest alone awards a set number of spins, and both chests together award more.
The round can start without warning from any spin, not from a scatter count you can watch build. The trigger rides entirely on the Devil’s landings and the chests’ moods, so there’s no meter to track in the base game.
Put as a sequence: the Devil lands, the fireballs fly, the chests either catch or they don’t. Everything between those events is symbol wins. For a game whose biggest prizes arrive as instant stake multipliers rather than a bonus round, the free spins are the one place the action stretches out past a single spin.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7/10
This is a game about one symbol, and once you accept that, it’s better company than it looks. You spin, the imp occasionally shows up, and when he lands next to a Mega tile the whole thing resolves in a single dramatic swoop – the chin-stroking devil on his gold pile finally paying you for your patience. That swoop, and the 1000x top of the ladder behind it, is why anybody would pick this over a busier Red Tiger title.
The respins are the best thing here. The centre position gets a second chance to land the Devil, and once he’s in place, seven more positions can respin hunting a Bonus scatter – so the chase keeps moving even when the first spin whiffs. The flip side is the paytable underneath it: 20x for five of the best symbol means the stretches between Devil landings are genuinely lean, not just lean-feeling.
That lean stretch is the honest cost of a build this concentrated, and it’s one worth accepting if you like a game that can pay its biggest prize in the base game, from one spin, without a bonus round in sight. Regular small-win players will find it stingy. Chasers of the big single hit will feel right at home in the canyon – the devil keeps his word, but only on his own schedule.
