Slotham City Slot Review
Grey-blue towers blur into the haze behind a bolted console frame, a pink-lit dome glows atop the tallest tower, and yellow-gold comic lettering runs along the top of the screen like a city panel waiting for its hero. Popiplay haven’t built a spectacle-first slot, though. They’ve built one where you assemble the paytable before a single reel turns, and that choice does more work than anything else in the game.
For a game this loud, the numbers are restrained: a 2,614x top prize, 96.79% RTP, and a conventional 5×4 grid. You’ll find Popiplay in stranger moods elsewhere, with Bushido Blood and Taco Hell both sitting in their archive alongside this one. Superhero slots usually sell spectacle first. This one sells decisions, and those decisions shape everything from the wilds to the jackpots.
Heroes, Wilds and the Paytable
The game runs on a 5×4 grid with win lines, and the reels sit inside that dark sci-fi console frame like the control deck of the city itself. Blue-lit edges run along the frame’s panels, and the purple-and-silver Slotham City wordmark hangs in the upper right like a sign over the skyline. The heroes are the ones doing the paying.
Spinning is standard fare: set your total bet in the bet field, hit MAX if you want the ceiling in one press, and start the reels with the spin button or the spacebar. Autoplay comes in Basic and Advanced flavours. Basic just takes a number of rounds.
Advanced adds stop conditions, and there are five to choose from before you commit to a long run:
- Stop on any win
- Stop when a bonus game is won
- Stop when a single win exceeds a sum you set
- Stop when your balance rises above a set sum
- Stop when your balance falls below a set sum
The Wild substitutes for any symbol except the Scatter and appears only on the middle three reels. The Scatter is a rocket icon that can land on any reel, paying 1.90, 3.80 or 19.00 for three, four or five, with three or more of them triggering the Free Spins round. That top scatter pay is the single richest value on the reels, edging even five Green Streamers.
The paytable’s credit values, per symbol, for three, four and five of a kind:
- Green Streamer Hero: 1.00 / 2.00 / 10.00
- Yellow/Orange Creature Hero: 0.50 / 1.00 / 5.00
- Purple Streamer Hero: 0.40 / 0.80 / 4.00
- Blue Streamer Hero: 0.25 / 0.50 / 2.50
- Red/Orange Streamer Hero: 0.10 / 0.20 / 1.00
- Two-character stacked heroes icon: 0.05 / 0.10 / 0.50
- Equipment icon (shield, mask, glove): 0.05 / 0.10 / 0.50
Wins scale with the bet, so a higher total bet lifts every payout on that list proportionally. The drop from the top hero to the bottom rows is steep: five Green Streamers pay twenty times what five equipment icons do, which tells you where the money concentrates. Four of a kind tells a similar story, with the top hero’s 2.00 sitting at twice the Creature Hero’s return.
Super Heroes: Choosing Your Team
Before play begins, you choose how many of the symbols can become Super Hero versions of themselves. A Super Hero symbol pays more than its standard counterpart, so the choice is between a cleaner paytable and a richer one.
Choose more than one Super Hero symbol and the Jackpot round becomes possible. Choose two or more and Burning Wilds start appearing on the reels. Every Burning Wild that lands adds an Energy Sphere to the progress bar, which is the slow road to the jackpots.
It’s a rare structure: most slots hand you a fixed feature set and let the maths do the deciding. Here the maths is partly yours. A single hero keeps the paytable honest but leaves the jackpot machinery switched off entirely, and the full five-hero setup turns every base-game spin into sphere collection as well.
The choice runs from one to five, and each step up the scale widens what’s in play:
- One Super Hero symbol: enhanced pays, no Jackpot round, no Burning Wilds
- Two or more: Burning Wilds appear, each one adding an Energy Sphere to the progress bar
- Two symbols: Mini Jackpot available
- Three symbols: Minor Jackpot available
- Four symbols: Major Jackpot available
- Five symbols: Grand Jackpot available
Free Spins
Three or more Scatters in the main game trigger the Free Spins round. The Scatter pays wherever it lands, so there’s no reel-positioning to keep track of, and the round can run to as many as 300 free spins, which is a generous allowance for a single trigger.
Those spins don’t have to land all at once to matter. Even a modest slice of the allowance, at a game running this hot, is room for the kind of streak the base game rarely hands out. And because the Scatter pays on the trigger itself, you’re already in profit from the moment the round begins.
If waiting for the rockets isn’t your style, there’s a Buy Bonus button sitting top-left of the reels for skipping straight to the round. Check the price where you play before committing to it.
The Jackpot Round
The Jackpot round activates once 12 Energy Spheres have been collected in the progress bar, and it’s only available when two or more Super Hero symbols were chosen before play. Collecting them is entirely down to the Burning Wilds, so the pace of the build depends on how often they turn up.
Inside the round, you match three icons to win one of the available jackpots. The ladder reads MINI 5.00, MINOR 10.00, MAJOR 187.50 and GRAND 500.00 at a 0.38 total bet, which works out to roughly 13.2x, 26.3x, 493.4x and 1,315.8x the stake respectively. The number of tiers that actually exist for you depends on how many heroes you chose before play.
That’s the quiet twist in the design: a two-hero setup can only ever match the Mini, worth about 13x the bet, while a five-hero setup has the whole ladder in play up to the Grand. The more of your paytable you turned heroic, the more of the ladder is real.
Notice the shape of that ladder, too. The gap between Minor and Major is around thirty-five times the size of the gap between Mini and Minor, and the Grand is close to triple the Major. This isn’t a ladder of even steps – it’s three small prizes and one that matters.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.8/10
Playing Slotham City feels less like spinning a fixed slot and more like staffing the rescue effort yourself: you decide how many heroes answer the call, and the game you get is the one you built. That setup choice is the reason to pick it up, because almost nothing else about the session is out of your hands.
The free spins allowance is the best thing here – up to 300 spins from a single trigger is genuinely generous. The ladder is the disappointment: the Grand sits under the game’s own top prize, so the round you spend twelve spheres building can pay less than a good scatter hit.
This one’s for players who enjoy tuning a game before they play it and watching a slow build come good. Anyone chasing a headline payout won’t find it here – the pleasure is in the assembly, one sphere at a time.
