Towering Pays Excalibur Slot Review
A castle across still water at dawn, reeds in the shallows, mist on the lake: the Arthurian scene is as familiar as slots get. Towering Pays Excalibur earns its legend anyway, because the sword doesn’t decorate the reels, it drives them. ReelPlay builds the whole game on one idea that most studios would flatten into a respin: the board you’re playing is the thing you’re trying to win.
The game runs at 95.58% RTP, or 95.64% with the Quest Bet ante in play, with medium-high volatility and a 6,500x maximum win. It opens on a 5×3 grid and climbs row by row to 5×8, unlocking paylines on the way until all 65 are live. Fans of the theme will find kinship with King Arthur 10K Ways and Hercules 10K Ways, two ReelPlay titles that share the same myth-and-mechanics appetite.
Base Game & Features
Play begins at 5×3 with 15 paylines. Whenever Excalibur appears in at least one position on each reel that carries it, the game advances a stage, and each stage adds one row and ten paylines. The climb ends at the full 5×8 grid with all 65 lines in play.
Progression is tracked separately at each bet level, so raising your stake starts you back at the smaller grid. Stage play also resets after the Avalon Feature. Symbols on newly added rows only count from the next spin, which stops a fresh row paying on the spin that created it.
King Arthur is the wild, substituting for everything except Excalibur, Shield and the Feature Wheel. All symbols pay left to right, except the Feature Wheel and Shield, which pay in any position.
A prize multiplier can land on any winning spin, capped at x2 on the 5×3 grid and climbing to x3, x4, x5, x7 and x10 as the grid grows. It applies to line wins only, never to features triggered on the same spin.
Excalibur Magic
The sword itself is the engine of the base game. Excalibur lands on reels 1, 2 and 3 in normal play and during the Lancelot and Merlin features, on reels 1 to 4 in the Arthur and Camelot features, and on every reel once the Camelot feature reaches the 5×8 grid.
After any spin where the sword shows up, every Excalibur position morphs into one identical random symbol, the Feature Wheel excluded. Several Excalibur symbols becoming the same matching symbol across adjacent reels builds line wins a lone wild couldn’t.
Combined with stage progression, the base game has two systems pulling in the same direction. Bets run from 0.25 to 25 per spin.

Towering Pays Excalibur Bonus Features & Free Spins
Feature Wheel
The Feature Wheel triggers when its symbol lands in the active grid on reels 1, 3 and 5. The first wheel awards an upgraded wheel, the Lancelot free spins, or a batch of Win Spins. The second adds the Merlin free spins to those outcomes, and the third adds the Arthur free spins. The fourth awards the Camelot free spins.
With the Quest Bet active, any wheel can instead award the Hold & Spin. Wheels that trigger during free spins behave differently: they only award Win Spins, or a Hold & Spin on the Quest Bet. Each triggered wheel inside a sequence can escalate towards Camelot, so persistence pays.
Win Spins
Each Win Spin covers reels 1, 2 and 3 of the current grid entirely in Excalibur while reels 4 and 5 spin. Excalibur Magic then converts the lot to one random symbol, which makes every Win Spin a guaranteed winner. The grid doesn’t grow during them, so what you have is what you keep.
Avalon Feature
Reaching the top matters. In normal play, Excalibur appearing in at least one position on each of reels 1, 2 and 3 of the 5×8 grid triggers the Avalon Feature. Its sequence of wheels escalates the same way, from the second wheel up through the fourth.
That fourth wheel awards either the Camelot free spins or, when the Quest Bet is off, Camelot free spins with a 200x bet bonus. Stage play resets when the Avalon Feature ends, so the feature is both the reward for climbing the grid and the thing that knocks you off it.
Camelot Free Spins
Camelot awards six free spins on a 5×8 game grid where Excalibur can appear on every reel, with the prize multiplier available on any win. One extra free spin is awarded whenever Excalibur lands in at least one position on each reel of that grid, so a good round can keep extending itself.
Quest Bet & Hold & Spin
The Quest Bet is a 15-unit ante that enables the Hold & Spin, and it scales with any increase in the base wager. With it active, Excalibur can convert into Shield symbols during Excalibur Magic, opening a route to the collection feature that doesn’t exist otherwise.
The Hold & Spin triggers when six or more Shields appear, either from Excalibur Magic or from any Feature Wheel on the Quest Bet. Three re-spins are awarded with the triggering Shields held, and only Shields are active during them. Every new Shield that lands resets the re-spins to three.
The feature ends when the re-spins run out, paying every value shown on the held Shields. More than six triggering Shields from Excalibur Magic grows the re-spin grid by one row per extra Shield, up to the full 5×8, with the new rows starting empty.
Filling every active position with Shields pays a 1,000x bet bonus. Shields can also carry a Feature Wheel, which spins once the collection ends.
Bonus Buy
The Buy Bonus costs 1,250x or 2,000x the stake, scaled by any bet increase over the minimum. It awards either 2, 3, 5 or 7 Win Spins, all played on the 5×8 grid, or one of the free spin features via a Feature Wheel. The higher price point uses a better wheel, and the rules of whatever lands match the corresponding feature exactly.
The Buy Bonus returns 95.46% or 95.74% depending on which option you take, so the maths barely moves in either direction. What changes is the wheel quality and, with it, the shot at Camelot.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.7/10
This is a game about earning your kingdom and then losing it, which is oddly faithful to the legend. You spend long stretches on a cramped 5×3 board, and every time you finally raise Camelot’s full 5×8 grid, the Avalon Feature pays you and sends you back down. That cycle is the reason to pick this over any static Arthurian slot: the sense that the board itself is the prize.
What works is how much one rule carries. Excalibur Magic powers the grid growth, the guaranteed Win Spins and the Shield collection, so nothing here feels bolted on. What doesn’t is the early game: 15 paylines and a x2 multiplier cap make the bottom stages thin.
It’s a build game, and it rewards players who enjoy a long ascent with a payoff at the top. If you want a bonus round inside your first fifty spins, this isn’t the lake to fish in. For patient ones who like watching a board grow under them, Camelot is worth the climb.
