Base Game & Features
Tricky Treats is a 6-reel, 9-row video slot from Push Gaming, utilising a Cluster Pays mechanic. Winning combinations activate when 5 or more matching symbols land horizontally or vertically on the grid.
In terms of symbols, the highest-paying symbol falls to Red Dracula, followed by Orange Frankenstein, Bats, & Ghosts. When a winning cluster is determined, a fixed payout between 0.1x and 500x your bet is applied.
After each win evaluation, the Avalanche Feature destroys all winning clusters from the grid, allowing new symbols to drop in from above. This phase continues until there are no new winning clusters left to be destroyed.
In addition, several Special symbols, consisting of Wilds, Collectors, Multipliers, & Instant Prizes, can fall upon the reels during a spin. Finally, Wild symbols are responsible for triggering the Free Spins session.
Wilds & Wild Multipliers
Throughout the base game & Free Spins session, Pumpkin symbols act as Wilds when they appear on the grid. Pumpkin Wilds appear on all grid positions, substituting for all symbols except Collector, Instant Prize, Multiplier, & Wild Multiplier symbols.
When a Pumpkin Wild appears in view, it will activate a x1 Multiplier. Every time it is a part of a winning cluster, its current Multiplier will increment by +x1. At the end of each base game spin, the Pumpkin Wild is removed from the grid.
Furthermore, additional Wild Multipliers can appear across the grid, revealing a random Multiplier between x1 and x5. Once in view, the Wild Multiplier will award its value to all other Pumpkin Wilds on the grid, after which, the Wild Multiplier transforms into an Instant Prize symbol between 1x and 1,000x your bet.
Instant Prizes & Multipliers
With each base game spin, multiple Instant Prize symbols between 1x and 1,000x your bet can appear on the grid. When they appear singular, they do not apply their values; however, when 5 or more come together, their Instant Prize values are added together and paid out via the Cluster Link mechanic.
Additionally, a special Instant Prize Multiplier can appear during the base game & Free Spins session. Upon its appearance, the Instant Prize Multiplier will reveal a random value of x2, x5, or x10, which will multiply each available Instant Prize symbol currently in view.
Collect Feature
Within a spin where a Collector symbol hits, the Collect Feature instantly triggers. Once active, the Collector symbol will select a specific paytable symbol with at least 4 instances on the grid, pulling them towards itself to create a new winning cluster.
Once a new winning cluster is created, the Collector symbol will transform into the same paytable symbol or Instant Prize with a value between 1x and 1,000x your bet.
Tricky Treats Free Spins
The Free Spins session is guaranteed to trigger when 3, 4, 5, or 6 Pumpkin Wilds appear anywhere in the base game, awarding 6, 8, 10, or 12 Free Spins, respectively. Once active, each Pumpkin Wild & Instant Prize symbol from the base game is carried over for the entire Free Spins session.
In this session, each empty cell position will award one of the following symbol types:
- Wilds & Wild Multipliers
- Instant Prize & Instant Prize Multipliers
- Collector Symbols
- Extra Spins
- Blank Cells
Every Instant Prize symbol that lands will persist on the grid until the end of the session. The xtra Spins symbol will award a further +1 or +2 Free Spins, after which, it transforms into an additional Instant Prize symbol.
Lastly, the Collector symbol will drag several Instant Prize symbols to its current location, and Blank icons do not stick or award any form of payout. When individual clusters come together as part of the Cluster Link mechanic, their values combine, multiplied by the Pumpkin Wilds that are linked at the end of the session.

Our Honest Verdict
It’s wonderful to see Push Gaming back to what we love & admire after a brief stint of exploring the ‘3 pots’ mechanic in Wild Swarm Triple Hive & 3 Magic Pots. Tricky Treats takes us on a thrilling Halloween adventure, utilising some of Push Gaming’s more desirable mechanics & features.
If you weren’t already excited about Halloween, you certainly will be now. Prepare for goosebumps and hair-raising entertainment as you spin the reels of Tricky Treats. Although classified as a Halloween instalment, it’s great to see Push Gaming stick to their cute & cuddly paytable symbols and animations – nothing screams ‘adorable’ quite like a pumpkin with an angelic, smiley face.
While the Cluster Link mechanic is readily available in Free Spins, the base game keeps us entertained with Instant Prizes, Wild Multipliers, & Collector symbols. In addition to regular Pumpkin Wilds & Instant Prizes, the game also generates a Multiplier version of each one to enhance its overall potential.
When a Pumpkin Wild graces us with its presence, it’s easy to forget that you’re not in the middle of a Jammin’ Jars session, expecting these little cuties to start jumping from pillar to post, but unfortunately, they do not.
Instead, Pumpkin Wilds connect to winning clusters & Instant Prize symbols, applying its value before the win is paid out, with the occasional boost from Wild Multiplier symbols, if applicable.
Connecting wins is already straightforward thanks to the Cluster Pays mechanic, but each payout is slightly less than traditional pay-line or ways-to-win slots. While this is the case here, it’s quickly balanced out by the size of the grid, making each spin more likely to reveal Special symbols.
When comparing this release to Retro Tapes & Retro Sweets, statistically, they each average a maximum win potential of 10,000x your bet. All in all, Tricky Treats is a solid & well-rounded asset to Push Gaming’s ‘spooktacular’ portfolio, and a wonderful addition to the Cluster Link mechanic.
