Christmas is fast approaching, but even though its the season of kind gestures and goodwill, Mr Ebenezer Scrooge is not feeling at all generous, so it’s about time he was taught a lesson or two.
Scrooge Megaways is the newest and most festive addition to the Twisted Tale series. Unlike the latest Twisted Tale slot Brides of Dracula Hold & Win, iSoftBet has gone back to old roots by using Big Time Gamings Megaways mechanic, which has featured in previous titles such as Morgana Megaways and Moriarty Megaways.
Ebenezer Scrooge isn’t quite a villain in the sense that Morgana or the Queen of Hearts is, he’s more of a grumpy old man if anything else, but it’s great to see another in a series that has brought so much enjoyment to keen players.
Christmas is the season to be Jolly, but that’s not the case for Ebenezer Scrooge!
Ebenezer Scrooge is the prodigy of Charles Dickens 1843 novel ‘A Christmas Carol’. Scrooge is a fictitious character well known for his hatred towards Christmas but with the help of the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future, Scrooge saw the errors of his ways and became a better and more generous man.
First impressions of Scrooge Megaways are a merry one, you cant help but notice the sheer amount of detail that iSoftBet has put into the design of this game. The backdrop descends upon a snowy, dimly lit street where Scrooge and Marley’s money lending business also known as a ‘Counting House’ sits proudly on the right. Snow can be seen falling to no end , giving the game an all over Christmas feel to it.
The music playing throughout Scrooge Megaways is sutble yet magical and ties in nicely with the festive theme. The sound effects in Scrooge Megaways work well with the music along with the jingle jangle of Christmas bells that can be heard in the distance.
Scrooge Megaways has a variety of betting options for players to choose from. For those who prefer a lower stake, the minimum bet available is £0.20 per spin. For those who prefer a higher stake, the maximum bet available is £200 per spin, with plenty of options in between the two.
The highest paying regular symbol in Scrooge Megaways is the Bah Humbug himself Scrooge, followed by the Top Hat, Christmas Dinner and the Ball and Chain. Lower paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen, Jack, Ten and Nine.
Wild symbols substitute for all symbols except Scatters.
Scrooge Megaways is a 6 reel slot with up to 117,649 ways to win. To form a win you will need to connect 3 or more (or 2 or more of the highest paying symbol) from left to right, starting from the left-most reel.
Scrooge Megaways features Cascading Reels. Any symbols that are part of a winning combination will be removed and new symbols will cascade in their place, filling all the gaps.
Be prepared to relive past misdeeds in the Hauntings of Christmas Feature, which can trigger at any time in the Base Game. The Hauntings of Christmas Feature does well to add a little bit of depth to what may have otherwise been a pretty standard Base Game.
On any random spin during the base game, one of two Hauntings of Christmas features can trigger.
Landing 5 or more Scatter symbols on any of the reels will trigger 3 Respins in Scrooge Cash Respins. Once active, the Scatters that triggered Scrooge Cash Respins will be locked into place.
Each time a new Scatter lands in view, these too will be locked into place and the Respins will reset back to 3.
Keep an eye out for the Past, Present and Future Jackpots for even bigger wins!
If you are lucky enough to fill an entire reel with Scatters, the Multiplier will become active and all Scatters on the reel will have an increase in Multiplier.
When the Scrooge Cash Respins come to an end, all Scatter values in view will be paid.
For players outside the UK, you may benefit from a Bonus Buy option.
This can be purchased for a generous 50x your total bet.
Scrooge Megaways is sure to bring with it some festive cheer as you enjoy a winter wonderland and endure Scrooge’s unenthusiastic demeanour, but is it the best in the Twisted Tale Series? Probably Not.
Scrooge Megaways takes an approach similar to what we’ve seen before in Aztec Gold Megaways, but the absence of the improved buy feature seen in Aztec Gold Extra Gold Megaways makes it inferior.
We’re not sure why iSoftBet opted against a Free Spins Feature in this particular instalment, but it leaves us wanting of a bit more.
Statistically, Scrooge Megaways isn’t doing itself any favours with a 95.89% RTP, which can be considered rather poor for a Megaways slot. The max win capacity of 12,000x makes up for the RTP, though it could have been a lot better.
Overall, Scrooge Megaways isn’t bad by any means, but the lack of features makes it a little forgettable, and the seasonal focus gives it a rather short shelf life.
