Base Game & Features
Ride the Lightning is a highly volatile 3-reel, 2-row Video Slot with 9 fixed pay lines and multiple bet settings between £.€0.10 and £.€250 per spin. Other statistics of note include an overall RTP of 96.50% and a sizable max win cap of 10,000x your bet.
All paytable symbols pay from left to right, starting from the leftmost reel when 3 matching symbols land. Payouts for each symbol vary between 0.5x and 7x your bet. Other symbols include Blue and Red Lightning Bolts, and a x3 Multiplier symbol. These symbols act as Wilds, substituting for all symbols except Bonus Scatters.
Feature Symbols
The Red Lightning Bolt, Blue Lightning Bolt, and x3 Multiplier symbols appear on all 3 reels in the base game and Free Spins mode. The x3 Multiplier applies to all wins that it is a part of, excluding Jackpot Prizes.
Ride the Lightning has 4 fixed Jackpot Prizes; Mini, Minor, Major, and Grand. Landing a combination of feature symbols awards the Mini Jackpot of 25x your bet. Alternatively, landing any of the below combinations will award the following:
- Minor: Awards 100x your bet. This Jackpot is awarded when 3 Blue Lightning Bolts form a winning combination.
- Major: Awards 250x your bet. This Jackpot is awarded when 3 Red Lightning Bolts create a winning combination.
- Grand: Awards 500x your bet. This Jackpot is awarded when 3 Multiplier symbols form a winning combination.
Bonus Buy
Non-UK players can participate in the Free Spins mode by utilising the Bonus Buy option for an additional 100x their current bet.
Free Spins
Landing a Bonus Scatter on reel 3 in the base game triggers the Free Spins mode, awarding 10 Free Spins.
During this round, a Multiplier between x2 and x20 is randomly selected and applied to the total win of the current spin, including Jackpot Prizes. When a Bonus Scatter hits, it will award a further +10 Free Spins.
Our Verdict
It’s hard to imagine 3-reel Video Slots being anywhere near as exciting and refreshing as regular 5-reel slots, yet many software providers have proven that the size of the reel frame is insignificant when it comes to gameplay.
Ride the Lightning offers a classic aesthetic with modern mechanics and features, including the use of Jackpot Prizes and Multiplier symbols. This game surprised us with its ability to award wins of 10,000x your bet, considering the reel format and limited pay lines.
The fixed Jackpot Prizes are smaller than we’ve seen before, yet they can amount to bigger values during Free Spins when Multipliers are involved. Unfortunately, Jackpot Prizes cannot be multiplied by the Multiplier symbol in the base game, but this separates the two components of gameplay, making the Free Spins round more enticing.
