Jamie: Thanks for joining us. Can you start by introducing Just Slots to our readers and explaining what the studio is trying to build in the long term?
Josué: Just Slots is a business to business slot studio focused on building games that are genuinely fun to play. Of course, we want the games to look good, but a slot needs more than a nice first impression. It needs energy, rhythm and enough going on to keep players interested beyond the first few spins.
In the long term, we want Just Slots to be a studio that operators trust because our games deliver. That means games with strong player engagement, clear product thinking and a bit of personality behind them.
From a brand point of view, we want players to start recognising what a Just Slots game feels like. Not one single style, but a certain attitude. Every title should have its own tone, character and purpose. We are not interested in making games just to fill a roadmap. We want each release to feel like it has a reason to exist.
For operators, that means a studio with a clear direction. We are focused on building games that perform, developing a brand that players remember, and getting sharper with every release.
Jamie: Just Slots is still a relatively new name, but you have already started to build a strong and varied portfolio of games. What do you want players to think or feel when they load up a Just Slots title?
Josué: The first thing we want players to feel is that the game has life in it. That might sound simple, but it matters a lot. When someone opens a Just Slots game, we want there to be energy, personality and something worth exploring.
A slot cannot only look good. It has to hold attention through the gameplay, the pacing, the features and the overall feel of the game. The visuals and sound are important, but so is the way everything comes together once the reels start spinning.
That is what we are aiming for with every title. We want the game to feel fun, a little different from what else is out there, and built with real care rather than just pushed through the machine.
Jamie: Looking across recent and upcoming titles like Vegan Nightmare, Shadow Pirates, Shogun Skylord: Jade Empress, Ice Vacation and Unholy Mystery: Freaky Fiesta, there seems to be a real mix of themes and tones. How do you decide which ideas are worth turning into full games?
Josué: We look for ideas that have a bit of flavour. It is not enough for a theme to look nice on a moodboard. It needs to give us something to build around.
For us, the theme is not just decoration. It has to support the whole experience. We like ideas that create contrast. You can take something dark and add humour, or take a familiar setting and give it a strange, romantic or unexpected twist. That is where games start to feel more memorable.
The real test is whether the idea gives us enough room to play. If a theme can carry a strong character, a clear mood and features that make sense inside that world, then it has the potential to become a full game.
Jamie: Every studio talks about standing out, but that is easier said than done in such a crowded slot market. What does Just Slots do differently when it comes to themes, features or the overall player experience?
Josué: For us, standing out is not about shouting louder than everyone else. It is about giving the game a point of view.
A lot of themes in slots can start to feel familiar, so we try to find the angle that makes ours feel more alive. That might come from the character, the tone of the game, the humour, the animations, the music or even the way the feature is presented. Small choices can make a big difference to how a game feels.
We want online slots players to feel that someone had fun making the game. That does not mean every title has to be silly or over the top, but it should have some spark to it. If a game has no personality, it is very easy for players to forget it.
Jamie: Fruity Slots players tend to enjoy games that have plenty of personality, but they also want the maths and features to back it up. How do you balance bold visuals or unusual themes with gameplay that still feels rewarding to play?
Josué: That balance is really important. A strong theme can bring a player in, but the gameplay has to keep them there. If the features do not land properly, or the game does not have the right rhythm, then the theme can only do so much.
We try to look at every game as a complete package. The visuals, sound, maths and features all need to support each other. If the game is loud and playful, the experience should match that. If the theme is darker or more intense, the gameplay should carry that feeling too.
The maths has to give players those exciting moments, but it also has to make sense for the type of game we are building. It is not about forcing a big feature into every title. It is about making sure the reward structure fits the personality of the game.
Jamie: Of the games you have released so far, which title do you think best represents what Just Slots is all about, and what made it work so well?
Josué: Rain and Ruin is a great example. It has a strong identity, but it also gives players a more intense style of experience. The game is built around high risk, high potential moments, which gives it a clear sense of tension and excitement. For us, that’s important because it shows how we think about product design. We want to create games that are strong, have a clear personality and bold gameplay, but also give players different ways to engage with volatility and features.
Jamie: Unholy Mystery: Freaky Fiesta continues on from the 2025 release Unholy Mystery. What made you want to return, and how does Freaky Fiesta move the idea on from the original?
Josué: Unholy Mystery gave us a strong concept and a visual direction that still had more room to explore.
With Freaky Fiesta, we did not want to change everything just for the sake of it. The idea was to build on what already worked, add more flavour and move the series forward in a smart way.
It gives us a chance to return to a world that already has personality, but bring a different mood to it. The original had its own mystery and atmosphere, while Freaky Fiesta lets us push that world into something more colourful, playful and strange. It still feels connected, but it has its own character.
Jamie: What can you tell us about the upcoming release Ice Vacation that drops on 25th June?
Josué: Ice Vacation is a fun one. It has a lighter tone, fresh music, strong sound effects, good animations and a main character with a simple but funny idea behind him. It is a polar bear planning a beach holiday in a tropical country. That contrast gives the game a lot of charm.
Even though the tone is playful, we are still paying close attention to the gameplay. We want to keep those bigger moments that players enjoy, while making sure the base game has enough going on to keep the experience moving.
For us, Ice Vacation is a good example of how a simple idea can become a complete slot when the character, sound, visuals and gameplay all work together.
Jamie: Looking ahead, what can players expect next from Just Slots? Are you focusing more on new mechanics, bigger features, unusual themes, or building out recognisable game series?
Josué: Players can expect a mix of all of those things. We are interested in new mechanics, bigger features, unusual themes and game worlds that players can recognise and come back to.
The main thing is that we do not want to become predictable. Some games might be bold and high energy, some might be darker, some might be strange, funny or a bit unexpected. What should connect them is quality and personality.
We are still early in our journey, but the direction is clear. We want to keep building games with stronger identities, sharper features and more reasons for players to remember the Just Slots name.
