King of Cats Megaways Slot Overview

Out on the plains with the mighty Lion, or deep in the jungle with the stealthy Puma? The choice is yours in King of Cats Megaways by Big Time Gaming, who are giving players the choice via their Player select function on what features they want to see in game.

As the original creators of the Megaways Mechanic, Big Time Gaming know a thing or two about making a good one.

Big Time Gaming have spawned some of the most popular Megaways games to date, with games like Bonanza Megaways, Who Wants to be a Millionaire Megaways and Wheel of Fortune Megaways.

Sometimes the Megaways slots use the conventional methods of cascading reels and increasing multiplier, but just sometimes they decide to showcase their innovative prowess with something a little bit different.

King of Cats Megaways keeps the core aspects of Megaways the same, but it’ll add a little twist here and there to make for some very entertaining gameplay.

In this review, we’re off to Africa to see who is really king out of the Lion and the Puma.

King of Cats Megaways Slot Theme

King of Cats Megaways utilises the ever popular African Wildlife theme seen before in so many other titles.

The theme may be heavily concentrated within the iGaming world, but there’s obviously still a big desire for it in many markets.

The design in King of Cats Megaways will actually change depending on which game mode you choose. The Lion mode will see the game display a vast African Plain, and the Puma mode will see you deep within the Jungle.

Both designs are visually superb, but you’re probably wondering what these Lion and Puma modes actually are? All will be explained about Big Time Gaming’s great Player Select Function below!

King of Cats Megaways: Betting and Symbols

The Betting options in King of Cats Megaways are vast, just like every other Big Time Gaming instalment that came before it.

King of Cats Megaways is playable from as little as £/€0.20 per spin, or as high as £/€20 per spin. There are many different options in between the two, so there’s definitely something for everyone in King of Cats Megaways.

When it comes to the symbols, Big Time Gaming have once again used coloured Gems to depict their high paying symbols.

The Purple, Red, Blue and Green Gems are the highest paying symbols in the game, and A, K, Q, J, 10 & 9 are the lowest paying symbols. There’s also a Wild symbol which substitutes for everything except for the Scatter Symbol.

King of Cats Megaways: The Base Game and Features

King of Cats Megaways is classic in some aspects, but not in others.

There are 6 reels on total, and each reel may have up to 7 symbols for up to 117,649 ways to win.

To form a win, you’ll need to connect 3 symbols (or 2 of the top symbol) from left to right, starting from the left-most reel.

All pretty standard so far? well this is where the Lion and Puma feature come in.

Player Select

In King of Cats Megaways you’ll have the choice between playing the Lion Game, or the Puma game, with both offering different features.

  • Lion Game – In the Lion Game, one of the Wild symbols may turn into a Lion Wild. This will appear as a 2×2, 3×3 or 4×4 symbol.
    • 2×2 Lion Wild – 4x Multiplier
    • 3×3 Lion Wild – 9x Multiplier
    • 4×4 Lion Wild – 16x Multiplier

King of Cats Gameplay 2

This can result in some seriously impressive wins in the base game, especially if you trigger the 4×4 16x Lion Wild.

  • Puma Game – In the Puma game, up to 3 full reel Puma Wilds may appear. Every Puma Wild reveals a 2x, 3x or 4x multiplier.

King of Cats Gameplay

At a glance, both seem very exciting, but the Lion Game seems to be a lot more desirable. The Puma Wild can be very impressive in itself though if you manage to get 3 with good multipliers.

Lets see how both stack up in the Free Spins

King of Cats Megaways Free Spins

3 or more scatter symbols are needed to trigger the Free Spins in King of Cats Megaways

Lion Spins:

  • 3 Scatters – 8 Spins
  • 4 Scatters – 12 Spins
  • 5 Scatters – 16 Spins

Puma Spins:

  • 3 Scatters – 15 Spins
  • 4 Scatters 18 Spins
  • 5 Scatters – 24 Spins

The mode you get will depend on whether you were playing with Lion Spins or Puma Spins when you triggered the bonus. Unfortunately there’s no way to choose once you trigger, so play the Base Game according to the Free Spins that you want.

Lion Free Spins

In Lion Free Spins, 2×2, 3×3 and 4×4 Lion Wilds start with 2x, 5x and 8x multipliers respectively.

Every time a Lion Wild appears, the Lion Wild multipliers will increase by 2, 5 and 8.

Lion Free Spins has significant potential because of this, especially if you land yourself a 4×4 Wild late into the bonus once you’ve improved the multipliers.

Puma Free Spins

The first time that a Puma Wild occurs on any reel in the Free Spins, it will reveal a multiplier. This multiplier can be 2x, 4x or 6x, and every time it lands after that the three multipliers will increase by 1, 2 or 3 respectively.

The Puma Free Spins definitely seems like the less volatile of the 2, but don’t mistake it for a mode that isn’t rich in potential, as Puma Spins can perform very well if you’re lucky with the Puma Reels.

King of Cats Megaways: Our Verdict

In yet another superb display, Big Time Gaming come in guns blazing with yet another instalment this year with a very interesting concept.

The player select feature will undoubtedly divide players by those who prefer Lion and those who prefer Puma, but both can rest assured that each mode has something significant to offer in terms of potential. Even alternate between the two if you like to spice it up.

King of Cats Megaways has an impressive hit frequency of 38.89%, and a great RTP figure of 96.72%. Looking to the maximum win capabilities, things look great here too with a maximum potential of 56,620x

In hindsight, the core gameplay of King of Cats Megaways isn’t too far removed from the most classic version of Megaways, but the unconventional aspect of it breathes fresh life into the Megaways mechanic for high playability and incredible potential.
