3 Laughing Lions Power Combo Slot Review
A floating island hangs in misty Chinese mountains, pagodas and blossom stacked on its back, and three grinning lion-dance heads peer down over the reels from a gilded roof. The look is glossy and cartoon-bright, heavy on gold leaf, with a jackpot ladder dangling off the cliff edge like a temple charm. The three colour-coded lions aren’t decoration. Everything that pays here is keyed to red, green or blue.
3 Laughing Lions Power Combo is a Northern Lights Gaming slot on a 5×3 grid with 30 paylines, running at 96.07% RTP with high volatility and stakes from 0.10 to 40.00. In free spins the grid can grow to six rows and 75 paylines. It shares its Power Combo engine with the studio’s Bison Moon Power Combo, alongside titles like Polar Bonanza. Whether the lions are laughing with you or at you is the question.
Base Game & Features
The base game runs on a 5×3 grid with 30 fixed paylines, paying left to right from the first reel. Wins land on just over 30% of spins, so the reels tick over regularly. The paytable keeps those wins modest.
Only the highest combination counts per payline, and the total payout is the sum of all line wins on a spin. The symbol values, as multiples of your line stake:
- Blue Flower: 0.5x, 1x, 5x for three, four, five
- Shell/Fan: 0.3x, 0.5x, 3x
- Red Envelope/Fan: 0.2x, 0.5x, 2x
- Plant/Bonsai: 0.2x, 0.4x, 1.5x
- A: 0.1x, 0.4x, 1x
- K: 0.1x, 0.3x, 0.8x
- Q: 0.1x, 0.3x, 0.6x
- Green (Jade) symbol: 0.1x, 0.2x, 0.5x
- 10/J: 0.1x, 0.2x, 0.3x
The gap between the premium symbols and the royals is steep, and the top symbol sets the ceiling for the whole base paytable. It’s a low one.
Wilds appear on any reel in both the base game and free spins, substituting for every symbol except the Chest and the Lion Scatters. Two special wilds, the Green Lion Wild and the X2 Wild, exist only inside free spins.
The game publishes its return, and that holds steady across every mode of play.
Chest Symbol
The Chest appears on reels 1 and 5 only. Land two of them and they open to reveal Lanterns, Wild Reels, or both. Wild Reels turns the reel it lands on fully wild, and revealing two Lanterns triggers the Lucky Lantern Pot bonus.
A single Chest isn’t dead weight. One Chest on the reels gives a chance of the Island Chest Award, where the island itself randomly adds a second Chest to complete the pair and award the bonus.
That keeps every Chest landing charged with possibility, even when the first one arrives alone.
3 Laughing Lions Power Combo Power Combo Free Spins
Lion Scatter symbols land on reels 2, 3 and 4, and one or more of them can trigger the free spins. Each lion carries its own modifier, and which ones you bring in changes the round entirely:
- 1 Lion Scatter: 5 free spins
- 2 Lion Scatters: 8 free spins
- 3 Lion Scatters: 11 free spins
The Three Lions
The Red Lion expands the reels to six rows high and opens up all 75 paylines, the widest the game gets. It’s the only lion that changes the grid itself rather than the symbols on it.
Every extra row is extra paylines, and every payline is another route for wilds to connect. The Green Lion drops Green Lion Wilds onto the reels at random throughout the round.
The Blue Lion upgrades every wild to an X2 Wild, doubling any win it touches. Green fills the reels; Blue makes what’s already there worth twice as much.
Scatters can still land during free spins, but only lions that aren’t yet active. Each one that arrives unlocks its feature and adds three extra spins. Free spins play out automatically, and the round can’t retrigger in the usual sense. The bet stays at the level of the triggering spin.
Lucky Lantern Pot Bonus
Reveal two Lanterns from a Chest and the Lucky Lantern Pot bonus begins. Twelve lanterns are displayed, each hiding one of four pot prizes: GRAND, MAJOR, MINOR or MINI. You pick lanterns until you’ve matched three of the same prize, and that pot is yours.
One pot per trigger, and that’s your lot. The bonus can fire in the base game as well as free spins, so a Chest reveal mid-feature can stack a pick game on top of a running bonus round.
Buy Feature
Free spins can be bought outright from the base game, choosing your lions up front. The price is displayed at your current bet, and each option runs at a slightly different return:
- 1 random Lion: 96.06% RTP
- 2 random Lions: 96.07% RTP
- All 3 Lions: 96.04% RTP
A random buy option also sits at 96.06%. The differences are fractions of a percent, so the choice comes down to how much of the Power Combo you want guaranteed rather than the maths. Buying all three lions hands you the full combination from spin one.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.1/10
Sessions here live or die on the lions. The base game pays small and often, with the paytable topping out at 5x for five Blue Flowers, so the steady trickle of wins rarely amounts to much on its own. The Chests keep it watchable: a single one can summon a second from the island, and two can flip a quiet spin into Wild Reels or the Lantern pick game.
The free spins are the reason to sit down. Stacking the three lion modifiers changes what the round is worth every time it lands, and the Red Lion’s expanded 75-payline grid with the Blue Lion’s X2 Wilds is the combination everything builds towards. Scatters arriving mid-round to unlock a new lion and three more spins keep the feature alive instead of letting it run flat.
The appeal is variety rather than one number. It suits players who like bonus rounds that build in different directions and don’t mind a thin base game feeding them. The lions aren’t laughing at anyone. But the dance is worth watching.
