Bison Moon Power Combo Slot Review
Dusk settles over the American prairie, and three carved portraits watch the reels from gold frames like saloon signage: a barn under the Stars and Stripes, a bison head, and a red-haired cowgirl in a pale hat. Bison Moon Power Combo is at its best in exactly these quiet stretches, because Northern Lights Gaming have put almost everything this game pays into one elaborate bonus round, and whether that’s a fair arrangement is the whole question here.
It’s a 5×3 slot with 40 fixed paylines, running at 96.02% RTP with medium volatility, and the top prize is the Grand jackpot at 5,000x total bet. The bison herd has been here before, most recently in Bison Moon: Thunder Charge, and before that Bison Moon Megaways. The difference here is the Power Combo system, which mixes and matches three separate bonus modifiers into one hold-and-respin round.
Base Game & Features
The base game runs on a 5×3 grid with 40 fixed paylines, paying left to right from the first reel. Only the highest combination counts on each line, and wins from all lines are added together. Stakes run from 0.10 to 30.00 per spin, and the hit frequency sits at 24.61%, so roughly one spin in four connects.
Wilds appear in the base game only, substituting for everything except the Scatter, Collect, Moon and Bonus symbols. They’re a standard assist rather than a feature in their own right.
The paytable is modest for a game with this much machinery on top of it. Values below are multiples of the total stake:
- Bear: 0.1x for two, 0.3x for three, 0.6x for four, 2x for five
- Wolf: 0.1x for two, 0.3x for three, 0.6x for four, 1.5x for five
- Lynx and Cowgirl: 0.2x for three, 0.4x for four, 1.2x for five
- Raccoon: 0.2x for three, 0.4x for four, 1x for five
- Ace: 0.1x for three, 0.3x for four, 1x for five
- King and Queen: 0.1x for three, 0.2x for four, 0.8x for five
- Jack and 10: 0.1x for three, 0.2x for four, 0.7x for five
Base Game Instant Collect
Moon and Bonus symbols can land on any reel in the base game. When a Collect symbol lands on reel 1 or reel 5, each Collect on screen awards every Moon and Bonus symbol that’s landed. It’s a small payout valve for the base game, and it keeps the Moon symbols meaningful between bonuses.
Golden Eagle Feature Pick
Scatters can transform into Golden Eagle symbols, which collect in a meter at the bottom of the screen. Land a Golden Eagle on every reel and the Feature Pick triggers: six Golden Eagles are displayed, and you select 3 to reveal up to 3 Power Combos, starting Link&Win Moons, or Bonus prizes.
It’s a pick-and-reveal layer that can hand you a loaded version of the bonus round before it even starts.
Bison Moon Power Combo Bonus Features & Free Spins
The centrepiece is Link&Win, a hold-and-respin round that starts with 3 spins and 3 Moon symbols held on the reels. Every new Moon that lands sticks and resets the respin count to 3. Prizes attached to Moons can include one of two bonus prizes, and filling every position wins the GRAND. The prize ladder steps down from there:
- GRAND: 5,000x total bet
- MAJOR: 100x total bet
- MINOR: 25x total bet
Feature wins are added to any base game wins from the triggering spin. What makes this version interesting is how you get there. Three Power Combo Scatter types, Expand, Multiply and Collect, are gathered by meters at the top of the reels, and each one triggers Link&Win with its own modifier attached.
Expanding Reels
The Expand Power Combo Scatter triggers Link&Win with the reel set expanded to 5×5. More positions means more room for Moons, and a real shot at filling the grid for the GRAND. Straightforward, and the most self-explanatory of the three powers.
Multiply Feature
The Multiply Power Combo Scatter divides the reels into coloured zones, four of them on the standard grid, six when Expanding Reels is also active. Each zone starts with a random multiplier of 2x, 3x, 4x or 5x, and zone sizes are randomised every trigger. Fill a zone by the end of the round and all prizes inside it are multiplied and added to the total.
Multiplier symbols can land in a zone to upgrade its multiplier by 1x, up to a maximum of 10x. The symbol then becomes a Moon and the respins reset to 3, so upgrades feed the collection at the same time. Several can land on the same spin, which is where the big-zone payouts come from.
Instant Collect
The Collect Power Combo Scatter brings the base game’s collect mechanic into the bonus. During the round, Collect symbols can land on any reel, and when one does, every Moon on the reels is banked immediately and the respins reset to 3. Banked prizes are safe, and the empty positions get another 3 spins to refill.
Combined Features
Land different Power Combo Scatters together and the features combine: Multiply with Collect, Multiply with Expanding Reels, Expand with Collect, or all 3 at once. The full combination, a 5×5 grid in six zones with instant banking and up to 10x zone multipliers, is the round this whole game is built to deliver.
Buy Feature
The Buy Feature skips the wait and triggers Link&Win instantly, at the price displayed for your current bet. There’s a separate option for each power and each combination, and buying isn’t available above a certain bet threshold. Every option returns a slightly different RTP:
- Single-power buys: Instant Collect returns 96.90%, Multiply 96.75%, Expanding Reels 96.68%
- Two-power buys: Multiply with Instant Collect 96.51%, Multiply with Expanding Reels 96.50%, Expanding Reels with Instant Collect 96.50%
- All three powers together: 96.51%
Every buy option returns more than the base game’s 96.02%, and the single-power buys beat the combinations. If you’re buying, the plain Instant Collect version is mathematically the best of them.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.7/10
Most of your time on this prairie is spent waiting. The reels tick over at one win in four, nearly all of them small, while the bison watches from its gold frame. You’re here for the climb: Moons sticking, zones filling, multipliers edging towards 10x.
The Power Combo system is what makes the waiting worthwhile. Because each modifier changes what a filled grid is worth, the bonus round never quite repeats itself, and the three-power trigger is the rare version that justifies the whole build. That variety is the reason to choose this over any other hold-and-respin slot.
The cost is everything outside that round: a paytable capped at 2.5x can’t pay for its own waiting, so the quiet stretches run long. It’s a strong pick for players who love a hold-and-win round with genuine variation between triggers, and a thin one for anyone who wants the spinning itself to carry the session. The dusk lingers here, but when the round finally lands, it earns the wait.
