3 Wonders Monster Pays Slot Review
The most interesting thing on these reels isn’t the monsters – it’s the order they arrive in. 3 Wonders Monster Pays, Boomerang‘s monster-skinned entry in its 3 Wonders series, hides all of its real decisions in one respin round, where the sequence in which three collector symbols land decides whether a board pays modestly or pays properly. Everything before that is a 50-line spinner doing steady work.
The numbers are steady rather than spectacular. It runs at 96.01% RTP on medium volatility, across a 5×4 grid with 50 paylines, and bets go from 0.25 up to 80 a spin. It sits alongside 3 Wonders Catch, 3 Wonders Mystic Howl and 3 Wonders New Year Horse in the series, all built around the same collector formula.
The monsters stay docile for most of the spin. It’s the respins that wake them up.
Base Game & Features
3 Wonders Monster Pays runs 50 fixed paylines across its 5×4 grid. The headline numbers stack up like this:
- RTP: 96.01%
- Volatility: medium
- Hit frequency: 56.75%
- Grid: 5×4, five reels and four rows
- Paylines: 50, fixed
- Bet range: 0.25 minimum, 80 maximum
Better than half of all spins return something, and medium volatility keeps the swings restrained. Wins land often enough. Most of them are small, which is the arithmetic of a 56.75% hit rate at this volatility – frequent hits, modest size.
The wild is Frankenstein’s monster, substituting for the paying symbols to complete line wins. He does that job and nothing more, but he does turn up in the thick of the bigger line hits, sometimes landing twice on a single winning line to complete a symbol run on his own.
Line wins aren’t limited to flat symbol payouts either. Multiplied wins appear in play: a 4x win on line 13, a pair of two-line hits paying 0.27x and 1.6x the stake respectively, the larger of them carried by two wilds sitting side by side. The 1.6x result shows what the wild is for – two wilds plus one paying symbol is a completed line, and the payout scales with the symbol underneath.
Random Wild Transform
During base game spins, symbols can transform into wilds at random. There’s no meter to fill and no pattern to read; the transform simply arrives, extra Frankenstein wilds appear on the reels, and the resulting line wins pay out as normal.
In practice the feature works like this:
- A base game spin plays out as normal on the 50 lines
- Symbols transform into wild symbols at random
- The extra wilds substitute for paying symbols
- Any completed lines pay in the usual way
It’s the only interruption to an otherwise conventional 50-line spin, and it does the job of keeping the base game alive between respin triggers. Because it can strike any spin, there’s no dead stretch of the reel set where nothing extra can happen.
3 Wonders Monster Pays Bonus Features & Free Spins
The Hold and Respin round is the game’s centrepiece and the reason the 3 Wonders name is on the box. It’s a hold-and-respin board where prizes lock in place, and three Wonders work over whatever gets collected. Each one behaves differently:
- Collect: each Wonder wins all prizes on the reels
- Big Prize: each Wonder can be worth between 4x and 16x
- Upgrade: each Wonder upgrades all surrounding prizes
Which Wonder arrives shapes the round entirely. A Collect grabs everything at face value and banks it. A Big Prize carries its own weight, anywhere from 4x to 16x. An Upgrade does nothing on its own, but it inflates every prize around it, so its value depends entirely on how crowded the board is when it lands.
Played out in order, a round runs like this:
- Prizes land on the reels and lock in place for the respin sequence
- Wonders land alongside them, each carrying one of the three modes
- Each Collect Wonder takes every prize currently on the reels
- Each Big Prize Wonder pays its own value, from 4x up to 16x
- Each Upgrade Wonder raises the value of the prizes surrounding it
- The respins continue until the round resolves and the total pays out
The interaction between the three is where the round gets its depth. An Upgrade following a busy stretch of prize locks can convert a modest board into a substantial one, and a Collect arriving late sweeps up everything the upgrades have already fattened. The round builds rather than simply resolving.
That building structure is the whole appeal. A respin round that pays once and ends is standard; one where the final tally depends on the order the Wonders arrive in gives the feature a genuinely different shape. Three different orderings of the same three Wonders produce three different results, and only one of them is the flat one.
The monster wild from the base game doesn’t sit out the feature either – Frankenstein’s monster appears across the reels throughout play, so the theme’s central figure is present in both halves of the game rather than only the spinner.
Bonus Buy
A Buy Bonus button sits in the bottom-left corner of the play screen. It takes you straight to the Hold and Respin round, with the price shown in the menu before you commit. For anyone who’d rather skip the 50-line preamble entirely, it’s right there.
Buying in changes nothing about the round itself – same board, same three Wonders, same 4x to 16x ceiling on the Big Prize. What it changes is the pacing: a trigger you’d otherwise wait for becomes a decision you make at the price on the menu, and with a bet range running to 80, the buy price moves with your stake.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.2/10
Most of your time here is spent watching small wins tick past on 50 lines, waiting for Frankenstein to do something. That’s not a criticism so much as a description: the respin round is the whole reason anybody picks this over the other monsters in the series, and it’s a good enough one.
Its strength is the round’s ordering problem – the same board pays three different totals depending on when each Wonder lands, so a trigger stays live to the last respin. Its weakness is the stretch between triggers: the base game has one random wild transform and nothing else, which makes the waiting harder to justify.
This is one for players who like a steady 50-liner with one genuinely good feature at the centre, and series fans will feel at home immediately. Anyone chasing big base-game drama or a headline win target won’t find it here. But when the Wonders finally line up, the old monster earns his keep.
