3 Wonders New Year Horse Slot Review
New Year is the one festival built entirely around a fresh start, and 3 Wonders New Year Horse takes the idea literally: its free spins round splits the game into three separate reel sets, each working its wilds differently. That triple-panel round is the game’s whole argument. A wild that grows on one set can spread to the other two, which is something a single-grid slot simply can’t offer.
Boomerang keeps the rest of the maths deliberately plain: a 5×3 grid, 25 paylines, 96.01% RTP, low-to-medium volatility, a 45.45% hit rate and stakes from 0.25 to 300. It shares its format with 3 Wonders Mystic Howl and 3 Wonders Santa on the Beach, the same three-reel-set idea carried into different seasons. The question is whether the horse is the one worth saddling.
Base Game & Features
The base game is a conventional 5×3, 25-line setup, and it plays like one. Wins pay left to right on active lines, with only the highest combination per line counting. There’s a wild symbol that substitutes for the standard paying symbols; outside the feature it does nothing more exotic than that. Simple, tidy, familiar.
With 25 lines across three rows, most spins have a route to a win somewhere on the board. Low-to-medium volatility and a hit rate of 45.45% mean the balance moves in small steps rather than long silences. That’s the profile of a game built for steady sessions rather than dramatic ones, and the base game doesn’t hide it.
A run of base game play at a total bet of 1.00 shows what those steps look like. The line wins over that stretch were:
- 0.18x the bet with 2 lines won
- 0.29x with 3 lines won
- 0.26x with 3 lines won
Each of those is a fraction of the stake back, sometimes from two or three lines at once. Over the same stretch of play the balance barely moved, which is the shape of it: small swings, no cliffs. Nothing here is broken or mean; it’s a waiting room with decent upholstery.
There’s a reason the base game can afford to be this unremarkable. Everything the game wants to say is said in the feature, and every spin of the plain 5×3 grid is really just time spent getting there. The bet range does its part, too: a 0.25 minimum is low enough for a long careful session, while a 300 top stake lets a bigger bankroll push the same small steps into larger absolute terms.
3 Wonders Free Spins
The free spins round is the game’s one idea, and it’s a good one. Three reel sets appear side by side, and each carries its own wonder:
- Wild Grow Row – wilds expand across their row on that reel set
- Contagious Wild – wilds spread from one reel set to the others
- Wild Grow Reel – wilds expand down their reel on that reel set
The interaction between the three is what makes the round interesting. A wild that grows on one panel can then jump across to the neighbouring sets, so a single well-placed symbol can end up working all three grids at once. The three behaviours build on each other rather than running as three separate games.
Each reel set keeps its own identity throughout. The row-growth set fills horizontal lines, one row at a time. The reel-growth set does the same vertically, top to bottom. Neither changes behaviour mid-round, and neither borrows the other’s direction – the direction each one grows is fixed from the first spin of the feature to the last.
3 Wonders New Year Horse Bonus Features
Everything the feature round does hangs off those three wild behaviours. Wild Grow Row fills a horizontal line on its own reel set. Wild Grow Reel does the same vertically. Contagious Wild is the connective tissue, carrying wilds across the boundaries between the three panels.
Step by step, the round builds like this:
- Wilds land on one of the three reel sets
- The set’s own modifier grows them – down a reel, or across a row
- Contagious Wild carries the effect across to the other two sets
- The wilds accumulate, and the boards fill together rather than one at a time
The order of those steps matters. Growth happens first, on the home panel, and contagion follows – so a wild that has already stretched across a row arrives on the neighbouring sets already stretched. The spread is of the grown wild, not the single symbol that started it. That’s where the multiplication lives.
Because the growth happens on three grids at once, the round’s potential isn’t one board’s worth of wilds but three. A full panel is worth a lot; a full panel mirrored across all three sets is worth considerably more. That compounding is the entire appeal of the 3 Wonders format, and it’s why the base game can afford to be so plain.
It’s also a round that escalates rather than resets. Wilds that have grown and spread stay in play, so the middle of the feature looks busier than the start of it, and the last spins carry everything the earlier ones built. The round is the structure: three reel sets, three modifiers, wilds that grow and spread, and an upside that comes from all three working together rather than any single big symbol.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.6/10
Playing this is mostly a patient sit in familiar 5×3 surroundings, waiting for the one moment the game actually gets interesting. That moment is worth the wait. When the three reel sets arrive and a grown wild jumps between them, you get something a single-grid New Year slot can’t give you, and it’s the reason to pick this over the seasonal crowd.
The contagion between panels is the best thing here, because it multiplies a win three ways from one symbol, and the round escalates instead of resetting. The worst is the base game, which is filler – pleasant, steady filler, but nothing you’d remember an hour later.
This is a calm game for calm players: long sessions, small steps, one inventive payoff. Anyone after fierce swings will find it too gentle. But as a New Year wish goes, three wilds where one used to be isn’t a bad one to wish on.
