Banana Town Slot Review 2024

King Kong or Kingpin? Either way, this monkey means business in Relax Gaming’s latest release, Banana Town!

Make your way down to Banana Town, where you’ll feel right at home alongside the Monkey Mafia. Keep an eye out for chain-reaction wins that will get you in a tizzy, along with Multiplier upgrades that leave you seeing double. Banana Town will either leave you feeling relaxed, or a little bananas!

You don’t have to be a 90s baby to know this one, but the whole idea of Banana Town and particularly the monkey symbols, reminds us of the song ‘The Bad Touch’ by Bloodhound Gang (Apologies for putting the song in your head), although the monkey’s in the music video weren’t technically Gangsters.

Looking into theme, you are instantly taken back to your younger years where you’re met with 8-bit graphics and some banging Gameboy music and sound effects. To further compliment the theme, the Mafia Boss can be seen stood up on his Balcony smoking a Cigar, whilst his two bodyguards stand guard at the door. If you leave the game idle for too long, the cheeky pair start to cause havoc on the screen.

Similar in style to Santa’s Stack and Hellcatraz, Banana Town is a pixelated barrel of goodness that harnesses the popularity of retro video games, in order to bring something truly special to the table. Relax Gaming has been pumping their fair share of innovative titles out recently, including Space Miners, Beast Mode and Midnight Marauder, but will Banana Town be just as successful?

Have we got what it takes to beat the Mafia Boss? Let’s play on and find out!

Banana Town Base Game

Banana Town Base Game and Features

Banana Town is a 6 reel slot with a Scatter Pays mechanic. In order to form a winning combination, you will need to land 8 or more of the same symbol types in any position on the reels. The minimum bet available here is £/€0.10 per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€50 per spin, with plenty of other bets in between the two.

Banana Town features Cascading Reels. Each time a winning combination is formed, all winning symbols will be removed from the reels, making space for new symbols to drop down via a Cascade, possibly creating even more winning combinations.

In terms of symbols, all High paying symbols fall to a collection of Monkeys. The Monkey with the Red background has the highest pay value, followed by the Monkeys with the Yellow, Purple, Green and Blue backgrounds. Low paying symbols fall to Yellow, Red, Green and Blue Bananas. There are no Wild symbols present in Banana Town.

Like many Relax Gaming titles, Banana Town has an interesting Multiplier feature up for grabs, which certainly brings some much-needed fun to an otherwise boring base game. More on this below!

Multiplier Feature

On the right side of the screen, you will come across all 9 symbols, each with a starting Multiplier of x1.

Each time a winning combination is formed, the corresponding symbol Multiplier at the side of the screen will Double, up to a maximum of x64. The more winning combinations are formed during each cascade, the higher the corresponding symbol Multipliers will go.

Once all Cascades are complete for that particular spin, the current Multipliers will be reset.

Banana Town Free Spins

Landing 3 Scatters in any position on the reels, triggers the Free Spins round, awarding 8 Free Spins. Each Scatter after the initial 3, awards an additional +1 Free Spin.

During the Free Spins round, the Multiplier feature is active and does not reset between spins, unlike the base game. Each Scatter symbol that lands during the Free Spins round, awards an additional +1 Free Spin.

Banana Town: Our Verdict

There’s something special about these pixelated Relax Gaming releases. Perhaps our fondness stems from our affinity towards old school video games?

Santa’s Stack was nothing like Banana Town in terms of gameplay, and neither was Hellcatraz for that matter, but it’s hard not to make comparisons due to design alone. One thing they all do share is their quality, innovation and appeal. Santa’s Stack was a firm favourite for slot of the year last year, and there’s no reason why Banana Town won’t stick firmly in the minds of players when Slot of the Year 2022 comes about.

Inventive gameplay keeps you captivated throughout, and the Free Spins round with persistent multipliers really puts you on the edge of your seat. Even the lowest paying symbols can become super exciting if you grow the multiplier high enough, yet if there’s one thing we’ve noticed, it’s that momentum is everything in Banana Town.

We’ve tested Banana Town thoroughly, and we’ve even got off to a flying start in some of the bonus rounds where we’ve grown a fair few multipliers on the very first spin. However, you’ll need this kind of momentum all the way through the Free Spins to see its true potential. Extra Spins are quite frequent, but dead spins just won’t do if you’re hoping to see Banana Town at its best.

The maximum potential here is 10,000x, which definitely seems realistic based on what we’ve seen so far.

Overall, Banana Town is another from Relax Gaming to make a statement in both visuals and gameplay, and we can’t wait to see it in action for real when it releases.
