Book of Dead GO Collect Slot Review
A golden ceremonial bowl on a lit plinth fires a shaft of pale blue light up through the dust of an Egyptian temple chamber, and the reel frame is built like a gilded portal beneath a winged sun-disc. Play’n GO have dressed this tomb many times, but this time they’ve done more than rearrange the furniture: the collecting layer bolted onto the familiar formula is a genuine second game, and it’s the reason to walk into this particular temple rather than any of the others.
It’s a 5×3 grid with 10 paylines, mid to high volatility and wins of up to 10,000x the bet. The studio’s own Book of Dead is the obvious ancestor, with Rich Wilde and the Amulet of Dead and Scroll of Dead carrying the same bloodline. The question is whether the collecting is a real second game or decoration on a familiar tomb.
How the Base Game Pays
Wins pay left to right on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel, across 10 fixed paylines. Only the highest win counts on each line. Two exceptions break that pattern: the Tomb Scatter and the free spins Expanding Symbol both pay anywhere on the reels.
The Tomb Scatter does double duty as the wild. It can land on any reel, substitutes for every other symbol, and pays as the highest-paying symbol it stands in for. It’s the only wild in the game.
Symbol pays are multiples of the total bet, not the line bet. From the paytable:
- K: 0.5x for three, 4x for four, 15x for five
Royals do the usual low-pay work below that, and the premium Egyptian symbols sit above them. The K row gives the shape of it: modest at three of a kind, respectable at five.
Tomb Scatters and Free Spins
Tomb Scatters
Tomb Scatters pay anywhere, and their wins are multiplied by the total bet, then added to any payline wins from the same round. The payouts for landing them are:
- Three Tomb Scatters anywhere: 2x the total bet
- Four Tomb Scatters anywhere: 20x the total bet
- Five Tomb Scatters anywhere: 200x the total bet
Three or more also opens the free spins round, so the scatter carries the game’s trigger on top of its own pays.
Free Spins
Three or more Tomb Scatters award 10 free spins. On trigger, one symbol is selected at random, excluding the Tomb Scatter, and becomes the round’s Expanding Symbol.
The expanding symbol pays anywhere, so it doesn’t need adjacent reels or the leftmost start. That’s the whole appeal of this family of games: three well-placed premium expansions can pay far beyond what the payline maths suggests.
Landing three or more Tomb Scatters during the round re-triggers 10 more free spins, and the total is capped at 80. A re-trigger re-selects the expanding symbol at random, so a cheap royal can be swapped for something better mid-round.
GO Collect
Here’s the new part. Gold Staters can arrive attached to any symbol except the Tomb Scatter, and they’re collected automatically the moment they land. There’s nothing to click and no decision to make.
The more Gold Staters collected in the base game, the better the chance of triggering the Treasure Vault. It’s a build meter in effect, though there’s no fixed published threshold. The boundary is the point: Gold Staters never appear during free spins, so the two systems run on separate tracks and never feed each other.
Treasure Vault
Collect enough and the Vault opens. It’s a hold-and-collect round that starts with 3 re-spins, and every Stater that lands resets the counter back to three. The round ends when the reels run out of free spaces or the Gold Staters are consumed.
The Staters carry values as multiples of the total bet:
- Regular Staters: 5x, 4x, 3x, 2x and 1x the total bet
- Bonus Staters: GRAND at 500x, MAJOR at 100x, MINOR at 20x, and 10x the total bet
That ladder is the prize structure, and the reset mechanic is what makes the round tense. A GRAND Stater at 500x the bet is a serious result in its own right, and a run of resets stacking regular values underneath it can build well beyond a single ladder step.
Treasure Gamble
After a win, there’s the option to gamble it. Playing the Gamble enters a round where Brilliant Staters and Broken Staters land, and landing more Brilliant than Broken doubles the winnings. More Broken than Brilliant wipes the stake to zero. A tie isn’t possible.
Collect ends the chain and keeps everything. The Gamble can be played a maximum of four times in succession, up to a limit of 5,000x the total bet. Winnings from the Treasure Vault and the triggering round’s line wins are never at risk; only the gambled amount rides.
One practical note: with Auto Play running, the Gamble is skipped entirely and winnings are collected automatically. Anyone who likes the gamble option needs to be spinning manually to see it.
Controls and Play Options
Bets are set with the plus and minus buttons, one step at a time, and the bet adjusts automatically if the balance drops too low to spin at the current level. Beyond the basics:
- Auto Play runs consecutive rounds with a single click to switch it off
- Hyper Spin: hold the spacebar for 1.5 seconds and spins speed up immensely, slowing when a feature activates
- Fast Play toggles significantly faster gameplay
- Stop ends a running round more quickly
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.7/10
Playing this feels like raiding a tomb you know well, only now every coin you pocket on the way out counts towards something. That’s the one reason to choose it over the original: the base game finally has a job between bonuses, and even the dull spins feel like progress towards the Vault.
The Treasure Vault is the best thing here by some distance. Because every Stater resets the counter, one round can keep paying long after it should have died, and the GRAND tier gives the base game a target the payline maths never gets near. The disappointment is that the two halves never meet: no Staters in free spins, so the game’s best collection ideas and its best bonus round stay in separate rooms of the same temple.
It’s for players who enjoy a slow build and a bonus you can see coming, and it’s not for anyone who wants the free spins round itself to have moved on, because it hasn’t. The tomb is as warm and familiar as ever, and there’s genuine treasure in the walls now.
