While we’re not familiar with the original Boomstick Bill, we are pretty well-versed in all things Mining, thanks to Gems, Bombs, & Gold, Gold Digger Megaways, and Diamond Mine 2, to name a few, but will our pickaxe handle the sizable nuggets in Boomstick Bill 2?

Base Game & Features
Boomstick Bill 2 is constructed of 5 reels, 3 rows, and 25 fixed pay lines. Winning combinations are confirmed when 3-5 identical symbols appear on reels 1 through 5, starting from reel 1.
The Dynamite Barrel acts as the highest-paying symbol, followed by the Lantern, Beer, Pickaxe, Spades, Hearts, Clubs, & Diamonds. After a win is evaluated on the reels, a fixed payout between 0.2x and 8x your bet is awarded.
Other paytable symbols include Wilds, which appear on reels 2, 3, 4, & 5 in the base game and Free Spins mode. As they connect to wins, Wild symbols substitute for all other symbols except Multiplier & Sticky Scatters, Boomstick, Booster, & Prize symbols.
Lucky Levels
At the start of a game session, the Lucky Levels Feature begins after 10 base game spins have been completed, unlocking Lucky Level 1. As each spin progresses, the Lucky Levels Counter, situated above the reels, will tick down. Once it reaches 0, the next available Bonus or Feature will trigger, depending on your current level:
- Lucky Level 1: Activates Bill’s Blastin Bonus, where Boomstick symbols can be randomly added to reels 2, 3, or 4, awarding Wilds or Prize symbols.
- Lucky Level 2: Triggers after 30 base game spins. Once unlocked, the Bonus Booster Wheel becomes available.
- Lucky Level 3: Triggers after 60 base game spins. This level adds Trigger symbols to reel 1 only.
- Lucky Level 4: Triggers after 110 base game spins. Once active, Sticky Scatters will start to appear on reels 2, 3, & 4.
- Lucky Level 5: Triggers after 210 base game spins. A minimum of 20x to 200x your bet is guaranteed during the Multiplier Free Spins and Sticky Free Spins sessions.
Express Collect
During gameplay, when a minimum of 1 Trigger symbol appears on reels 1 or 5, at the same time as Cash Prizes between 0.8x and 200x your bet, the Express Collect Feature triggers.
Once active, the available Trigger symbols will expand to fill their entire reel and collect the total value of all Cash Prizes on the reels, applying the accumulated amount to the total win of the spin.
Wheel Bonus
When a Cash Prize symbol appears on the reels, minus a Trigger symbol on reels 1 and/or 5, it may trigger the Wheel Bonus. Once active, a single spin is awarded, whereby players may win 1 of 5 Jackpot Prizes:
- Mini: 5x your bet
- Maxi: 20x your bet
- Minor: 50x your bet
- Major: 200x your bet
- Mega: 1,000x your bet
Please note that the Wheel Bonus is only available to trigger in the base game. Alternatively, an advanced Bonus Booster Wheel can be triggered as of Lucky Level 2. If the Bonus Booster Wheel stops on a special Boost Wedge, its respective Jackpot Prize is increased in the following ways:
- Mini: Increases by 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, or 35x your bet. Alternatively, up to 5 Bonus Booster Spins can be awarded in exchange.
- Maxi: Awards an increased value of 40x, 60x, 80x, 100x, 140x your bet or up to 5 Bonus Booster Spins.
- Minor: Awards an increased value of 100x, 150x, 200x, 250x, 350x or up to 5 Bonus Booster Spins.
- Major: Awards an increased value of 400x, 600x, 800x, 1,000x, 1,400x or up to 5 Bonus Booster Spins.
- Mega: Awards an increased value of 2,000x, 3,000x, 4,000x, 6,000x or up to 4 Bonus Booster Spins.
Once the Bonus Booster Wheel is completed, all Cash Prizes will be reset to their original state.
Balloon Bonus
The Balloon symbol can only appear on paytable symbols in the top cell position of reel 5. Once a single Balloon symbol appears, the Balloon Bonus instantly triggers. In this feature, the Balloon symbol awards a random Bonus Prize between 0.8x and 6,000x your bet.
Multiplier & Sticky Boosters
Throughout spins, special Multiplier & Sticky Booster symbols can appear anywhere on the reels, overlaying an existing paytable symbol. Once in view, it will increase its respective meter outside the main reel set:
- Multiplier Booster: Enhances the current Free Spins Multiplier by x0.5, up to a maximum of x10. At the end of Multiplier Free Spins, the Multiplier Booster will randomly reset to x1, x1.5, x2, x2.5, x3, x3.5, or x4.
- Sticky Booster: Displays the accumulated number of Sticky Free Spins. Each Sticky Booster increases the meter by +1, up to a maximum of 25. At the end of Sticky Free Spins, the meter will reset to 7, 8, 9, or 10 Free Spins at random.
Multiplier Free Spins
The Multiplier Free Spins feature triggers when 3 Multiplier Scatters appear on reels 2, 3, & 4 in Lucky Levels 1, 2, 3, and 5, respectively. Once active, the feature begins with 10 Free Spins.
During this mode, the accumulated Multiplier Booster from the base game is activated, which applies to all Trigger symbols on reels 1 and/or 5. When 3 Multiplier Scatters land on reels 2, 3, & 4, an additional +10 Free Spins is awarded.
If the Multiplier Free Spins session is triggered with Lucky Level 5 activated, a minimum win of 20x your bet is applied, up to a maximum of 200x. If the total win is less than its corresponding minimum win, it will automatically increase to match the displayed value.
Sticky Free Spins
Initiating the Sticky Free Spins mode requires 3 Sticky Scatters to land on reels 2, 3, & 4 during Lucky Levels 4 & 5, awarding the total accumulated Free Spins from the Sticky Booster above the reels, up to a maximum of 25.
This mode begins with all cell positions free from paytable symbols. As the session begins, each cell position spins individually, revealing only Trigger, Cash Prize, & Blank symbols. Please note that Trigger symbols are still limited to reels 1 & 5 only.
Each Trigger & Cash Prize symbol will be held in its current position until the end of the feature, at which point, they will be added together and awarded as the total win. Accessing this mode with Lucky Level 5 active will guarantee a minimum win of 20x your bet, up to a maximum of 200x.
If the total win is less than the minimum win, it will instantly increase until it reaches the displayed value.
Our Honest Verdict
Mining has become a bit of a quirky skill of ours, and it’s all thanks to the countless Mining-themed slots we find ourselves in. Admittedly, it’s not a skill we thought we’d pick up, but anything is possible in the world of slots.
High Limit Studios puts our abilities with a pickaxe to the ultimate test in their latest release, Boomstick Bill 2, but did we prove ourselves worthy of the 6,000x max win prize? We’ll admit, we’re not familiar with the original Boomstick Bill, but after doing our homework, we can find a few noticeable differences between them.
First things first, High Limit Studios has adopted a 5th Lucky Level to the sequel, which only requires an additional 10 base game spins to activate, versus the 4th Lucky Level in the original. What’s missing from the original, though, is a second Free Spins mode, or in this case, Sticky Free Spins.
Secondly, the Jackpot prizes in the sequel can achieve greater values due to the max win limitations in the original Boomstick Bill, but this is only increased by an additional 1,000x your bet, so nothing worth shouting home about.
The available Cash Prizes here offer an identical payout amount, between 0.8x and 200x your bet, as well as the same Express Collect system & Trigger symbols to win them. What Boomstick Bill 2 does have, however, is a special Balloon Bonus that guarantees a one-off Prize of up to 6,000x your bet.
If you’re looking for ‘more bang for your buck’, then Boomstick Bill has your name on it, but accessing a big chunk of these features comes with certain restrictions, like unlocking Lucky Levels & landing symbols on specific reels.
All in all, Boomstick Bill 2 has a higher appeal than its predecessor, with additional features & bonuses, but it requires a fair amount of time & patience to see any of them in action.
