Brooklyn Bootleggers Slot Review 2024
The Brooklyn Bootleggers from Quickspin takes us to prohibition-era America where the booze is flowing…albeit illegally.
It’s hard to fathom a time when alcohol was illegal, yet it happened throughout the 1920s in the United States in a bid to reduce crime, and corruption, solve racial problems and reduce tax burdens, among other reasons. It finally ended on December 5th 1933; one could only imagine the party that night.
It’s an unthinkable prospect today, but for the sake of this review let’s travel back to the 20s. Forbidden fruit tastes the sweetest after all.
Brooklyn Bootleggers Base Game and Features
Brooklyn Bootleggers is a 5-reel slot with 10 fixed pay lines. Winning combinations are formed when 3 or more of the same symbols land from left to right, starting from the leftmost reel.
The minimum bet available here is £.€0.20 per spin and the maximum bet available is £.€100 per spin, with plenty of other options in between the two. This game has a theoretical RTP of 96.25% and a max win cap of 10,000x.
In terms of symbols, the highest-paying regular symbol here is the Character with the Red background, followed by Characters with Orange, Purple, and Blue backgrounds. Low-paying symbols fall to Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs, and Spades. Wilds also count as paying symbols during The Lock Up feature, substituting for all other symbols except Scatters.
The Lock Up
During any base game spin, The Lock Up feature can randomly trigger. Once active, a special Frame will appear in a size of 3×3, 4×3, or 5×3 at random, enclosing 9, 12, or 15 symbols respectively.

During tip-off free spins, The Lock Up feature is active all on Free Spins. The Lock Up frame will appear at the start of each Free Spin, in a random size of 3×3, 4×3, or 5×3.
Landing 3, 4, or 5 Badge Scatters during this time will award an additional +3, +5, and +7 Free Spins respectively, expanding the size of the Lock Up Frame by +1 row until the frame reaches the maximum size of 5×3.

Brooklyn Bootleggers: Our Verdict
Brooklyn Bootleggers turned out to be fairly reliable, yet unenthusiastic in its execution. The art of Brooklyn Bootleggers is superb as you’d probably expect from a Quickspin slot, but the gameplay can fall short at times.
Perhaps some would disagree, but we’re not fans of the 9 Masks of Fire style mechanic that awards better wins for more symbols. In most cases, disappointment ensues when features like this trigger, or at least that’s the case from our experience. The Lock Up Frame can grow to encompass more symbols, but it’s annoying when it doesn’t.
Its 10,000x potential would suggest that we’re quite wrong about Brooklyn Bootleggers and that it’s a thoroughly exciting game after all, but we’ll stick to our guns for now and say that it probably won’t enjoy the same successes as others in the Quickspin catalogue
Overall, Brooklyn Bootleggers has its moments, but it didn’t quite captivate us as we hoped it would.
