Buffalo Super Stars Slot Review
Buffalo Super Stars bets everything on a single animal. The buffalo is both the wild and the top symbol, and all three of its bonus rounds exist purely to make more of it – a narrower design than most 25-line slots attempt, and the reason this one is worth a closer look.
Boomerang have built the game on a 5×3 grid with 25 paylines, running at 96.02% RTP with medium-high volatility and a hit frequency of 45.45%. Stakes run from 0.25 to 150 per spin. It sits in the same stable as Chilli Super Stars and the 3 Wonders series, with 3 Wonders Zoo a near neighbour. The buffalo has room to roam here.
Base Game & Features
The base game is a classic five-reel setup. Wins pay left to right across 25 fixed lines, and only the highest combination on each line counts. With a hit rate of 45.45%, the board pays something close to half the time, though medium-high volatility keeps the sizing honest.
Because every line pays independently, a busy board can string several small results into one spin. A single eagle trio on line six is a win in its own right, and multiple lines landing together settle as one combined total. It’s a rhythm of steady nibbles rather than rare feasts.
The buffalo doubles as the wild, standing in for every other symbol on the board. It’s also the endgame: all three free-spins variants convert other animals into buffaloes, which makes the top symbol do double duty as the prize and the joker. Line wins involving the wild pay the same as natural buffalo combinations.
The rest of the cast fills out the plains theme. The animals on the reels are:
- Buffalo – the wild and top symbol
- Wolf
- Eagle
- Lynx
- Ram
- An alternate Wolf symbol that joins the set during WildFight
The alternate wolf converts alongside the rest of the animals in the WildFight round and does nothing anywhere else. In the base game the five regular animals and the buffalo carry the board between them. There’s no second wild, no multiplier symbol and no scatter paying its own cash prize; the bonus route runs entirely through the stars.
Above the reels sit three star icons, labelled TopKit, WildFight and WildEnergy. Each one is tied to its own version of the Super Stars Free Spins round, and each lights up as its moment approaches. Watching the stars charge gives the base game something to build towards between line wins.
When a star does fire, the round plays out on the same grid with the same 25 lines – nothing about the pay structure changes, only the symbols on it. That keeps the base game and the bonus rounds legible against each other: what you learn about line wins in the first hundred spins still holds once the conversions begin.
The essentials of the setup, in one place:
- 5×3 grid, five reels and three rows
- 25 fixed paylines, paying left to right
- 96.02% RTP
- Medium-high volatility
- Hit frequency of 45.45%
- Stakes from 0.25 to 150 per spin
Buffalo Super Stars Free Spins
The Super Stars round comes in three distinct flavours, and each one changes the board in its own way. All three share the same goal: turning the rest of the plains into buffalo. The number of spins awarded isn’t fixed, so each round’s value rides on which variant fires.
What each variant does, side by side:
- TopKit – every symbol appearing in the TopKit panel turns to buffalo
- WildFight – all touching Wolf, Eagle, Lynx, Wolf(alt), and Ram symbols turn to buffalo
- WildEnergy – each buffalo holds for 2 consecutive spins
TopKit
TopKit is the simplest of the three. Every symbol that appears inside its panel converts to a buffalo for the duration of the round. The panel sits over a defined patch of the board, so placement matters: a buffalo landing inside it multiplies into the surrounding positions.
The round builds spin by spin. Each new arrival inside the panel converts on the spot, so an early flurry sets up everything that follows, and a late one arrives with less runway left to work with. More panel hits means more wilds stacking the covered area, and the conversions compound as the spins run. A board that arrives half-full can finish wall-to-wall buffalo.
WildFight
WildFight turns the other animals into the main event. Any touching Wolf, Eagle, Lynx, alternate Wolf or Ram symbols convert to buffalo, so clusters of wildlife collapse into wilds. It rewards boards that arrive crowded.
The mechanic is adjacency-driven rather than panel-driven. Where TopKit cares about where a symbol sits, WildFight cares about what a symbol touches, which makes scattered herds worth more than isolated ones. A lone ram on the edge of the reels does nothing for its neighbours; a ram ringed by wolves and lynx takes the whole cluster with it.
WildEnergy
WildEnergy is the slow burn. Each buffalo that lands holds in place for two consecutive spins, so the board thickens with sticky wilds rather than converting in one burst. The two-spin hold means an early arrival keeps paying while later spins build around it.
A good run of arrivals can leave several rows locked in buffalo, and overlapping holds carry the coverage forward spin to spin. Because the buffaloes don’t expire until their second spin is spent, the round’s best moments tend to arrive late, once the holds have stacked.
Put together, the three variants cover three different routes to the same herd. TopKit converts by position, WildFight by contact and WildEnergy by persistence, so no two bonus sessions play the same way even though all three end in buffalo.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.1/10
This is a game about watching a herd grow. Nearly half of all spins return something, so you’re rarely sitting in silence, but the small stuff is genuinely small; the reason to sit down at all is the three stars and the buffalo they eventually deliver. The plains in between are patient work.
The variety is the strength. Because TopKit, WildFight and WildEnergy reward different boards, the bonus never feels like the same round wearing three hats, and WildEnergy’s sticky herds build better tension than the other two. The weakness is the ceiling: the maximum win sits at 1,572x the stake, a modest promise at the end of such a long build, and medium-high volatility doesn’t fill that gap for you.
It’s for players who enjoy the accumulation more than the explosion, and for anyone still happy to see a buffalo on the reels. If you need a bigger headline number or fast bonus rounds, the herd moves too slowly here. For the patient, there are worse plains to graze.
