Candy Crazed Pandas DoubleMax Slot Review
A Chinese village built entirely from sweets sounds like a fever dream, and Reflex have committed to it fully. Pagodas of gumdrop brick and jellybean-studded walls sit in green hills either side of the reels, the window caged in fat lacquered bamboo poles lashed with gold bands.
Underneath the sugar, this is a lean machine: a 94.0% return rate on super high volatility, with everything built to make the free spins run long, and everything outside that run paying for it.
Candy Crazed Pandas DoubleMax runs on a 5×3 grid with 20 paylines, a hit frequency of 25.83%, and stakes from 0.10 to 100. It sits in the DoubleMax family alongside Dublin Up Pots O Gold DoubleMax and Fat Cats DoubleMax, and the cascade-doubling DNA is fully intact.
Base Game & Features
Wins need matching symbols across the 20 paylines from the left. Cascades follow every win, with winning symbols clearing away and new ones dropping in. Four systems ride on top of those cascades:
- Multiplier Trail – every win doubles the multiplier; it resets only after a losing cascade
- Top Reels – a second reel set above the grid that spins on every spin and again after each win cascade, landing one or more Wild reels
- Boost Wild – substitutes for all symbols except the Bonus and boosts the Multiplier Trail by a random amount
- Eachway Wild – substitutes for all symbols except the Bonus, and pays wins both left to right and right to left when involved in a win
- Bonus symbol – three or more anywhere in view open the free spins
The Multiplier Trail
Every win in the base game doubles the multiplier. The trail survives each cascade within a run, so a chain of connected wins carries the multiplier a long way from where it started. One losing cascade and it’s back to the start.
Top Reels
The second reel set above the main grid is where the wilds live. It spins during each spin and again after every win cascade, landing one or more Wild reels. New symbols fill the empty spaces beneath them, giving another chance to win before the cascade chain settles.
When Super Wilds stack up on the top reels, the middle of the grid gets very generous. Two Super Wilds can sit over the reels at once. It’s the one piece of theatre this game has, and it’s a good one.
Boost Wild and Eachway Wild
Two wild modifiers run through the top reels, and each does something the plain Wild doesn’t. The Boost Wild adds a random amount to the Multiplier Trail on top of the win it’s part of. The Eachway Wild pays in both directions, so a combination that would be dead arriving right to left can still land when this wild is involved.
Between the two of them, the wilds do most of the day-to-day work here. The base game is otherwise a straightforward cascade affair. Payouts start small and the multiplier does the lifting.
The Bonus symbol stands apart from all of this. Nothing substitutes for it and it substitutes for nothing. Three or more anywhere in view, and the free spins are on.
Candy Crazed Pandas DoubleMax Free Spins & Bonus Buy
Free Spins
The number of Bonus symbols you catch sets the length of the round:
- Three Bonus symbols award 7 free spins
- Four Bonus symbols award 10 free spins
- Five Bonus symbols award 13 free spins
The big change inside the bonus is the Multiplier Trail. It starts at x1 and builds throughout the session, clearing only when the round ends. No resets between spins, no resets between cascades. A round that keeps connecting wins keeps every doubling it has earned, all the way to the last spin.
Free Spins Gamble
Catch three or four Bonus symbols and there’s a choice before the round starts: take the spins as awarded, or spin a dial for more. The dial works like this:
- Pointer lands in the green section – you progress to the next level or collect, gambling for three extra free spins
- Pointer lands in the red section – the gamble ends and no free spins are awarded
That red outcome is the whole risk of the feature: a trigger you’d already earned can leave with nothing. Five Bonus symbols skip the decision entirely and go straight to 13 spins.
Bonus Buy and Golden Bet
Two paid routes into the bonus sit on top of the standard game:
- Bonus Buy – choose your desired bet size and buy 7 free spins outright
- Golden Bet – a toggle that doubles your chance of hitting free spins, at 50% extra per spin
The Golden Bet is the cheaper route if you’d rather grind for the trigger. The Bonus Buy is the faster one. Neither changes what the round pays once you’re inside it.
The two don’t combine into one price, because they’re aimed at different players: the Golden Bet at 0.15 on a 0.10 stake is a slow tax towards a natural trigger, while the Bonus Buy is a single payment at your chosen bet size for the round straight away. Whichever door you take, the free spins play out under the same rules.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7/10
Playing this is mostly waiting for one round. The base game cascades along pleasantly enough in its candy village, but it exists to deliver you to a bonus where the multiplier finally gets to run, and the reason anybody chooses this over the other DoubleMax games is that run: one good chain inside the free spins can outpay an entire session of base game wins.
The strength is that the bonus genuinely commits. A multiplier that carries every doubling to the last spin, with Super Wilds dropping in from above to keep chains alive, is a real engine for a big round, and the gamble dial adds a proper decision at the trigger. The weakness is the door price: 94.0% on super high volatility is thin, and nothing in the game’s own material tells you what the ceiling is, so you’re chasing a number you can’t check.
This is one for players who enjoy the long build and will take a lean return rate for a shot at a runaway round. Anyone who counts their RTP before they spin will find the candy village expensive. For the patient ones, though, the pandas have built something worth a visit.
