Celtic Riches Slot Review
A rainbow arcs over green hills at sunset, a weathered stone archway stands half-sunk in the grass, and spotted toadstools crowd the corner of the frame. It’s storybook Ireland, painted warm and cartoonish, and Celtic Riches has almost nothing to say for itself in the base game – everything it pays, it pays through one gold clover coin.
Strip the theme off and you’re left with a wild, a paytable and a single door to two bonus rounds. That’s a bolder choice than the shamrock packaging suggests, and it works only because both of those rounds are worth reaching.
Playzia have built it on a 5×4 grid with 25 paylines, running at 96.08% RTP. Their catalogue here also takes in Crazy Chilli Jackpots, Crystal Rush and Lucky Totems. The shamrocks are the invitation; the sticky coins are the reason to stay.
Symbols and Pays
Wins land on 25 fixed paylines across the five reels and four rows, with the game diagramming every one of them from payline 1 through to 25. The leprechaun wild substitutes for everything except the BONUS symbol, and it’s the best-paying symbol on the reels in its own right. Beyond the wild, the pays step down through the theme symbols to the royals:
- Clover – the richest regular symbol, paying 1.00 for three, 2.00 for four and 6.00 for five at a 1.00 stake.
- Pot of Gold over a rainbow – second richest, paying 0.80, 1.60 and 4.00 for three to five.
- Horseshoe – the last of the themed symbols, paying 0.60, 1.20 and 3.00.
- A and K – the premium royals, paying 0.40, 0.80 and 2.00.
- Q and J – the bottom of the table, paying 0.20, 0.40 and 1.00.
Every one of those scales with the stake, so the same row at 0.50 costs half as much to chase and pays half as much when it lands. The gaps between tiers are even rather than steep.
Each themed symbol sits a tidy notch below the one above it, and the royals halve the premium rates rather than collapsing to token amounts. The best returns sit at the top of the table: the clover pays six times the stake for a full line, and the wild tops that at ten.
Everything below the horseshoe pays three times the stake or less for its best combination. Three-symbol wins, which the 25 lines turn up most often, all pay between 0.20 and 1.00 at a 1.00 stake. It’s a table built for frequent small returns rather than headline base-game hits.
The BONUS symbol is a gold clover coin that can appear on all five reels, with its prize printed on the face when it lands. It pays nothing in the base game. Its whole job is to trigger the features, and it’s the only route to either of them.
Hold and Win
Landing six or more BONUS symbols starts the Hold and Win feature. Only BONUS symbols appear on the reels for the duration, and every one that landed to trigger the round sticks in place from the first re-spin.
You start with three re-spins. Each new BONUS symbol that lands also sticks, and resets the re-spin count back to three. The round runs until the re-spins run out, or until all 15 BONUS symbols are collected. When it ends, the values on every BONUS symbol are summed and paid as one Bonus Win.
The counter ticks down one with each re-spin that brings nothing new, and any fresh coin sets it straight back to three. A round can’t end on a land – it always gets its full three chances to find the next symbol. A dry run of three consecutive re-spins finishes things, and a board that keeps feeding coins can run for a long while before it stalls.
The shape of the round is familiar: an opening flurry of coins, then a slow grind as the empty positions get harder to fill. Filling the board is the dream scenario. Short of that, the outcome rests entirely on how long the resets keep coming.
Jackpot Hold and Win
The second feature can fire from any BONUS symbol, base game or otherwise, and it’s the louder of the two. At the start, one symbol of each jackpot type is placed at random on the reel area, and only jackpot symbols – MINI, MINOR, MAJOR and GRAND – appear for the rest of the round.
Every jackpot symbol that lands sticks. The first type to reach three or more symbols ends the round and pays its tier on the total bet. The ladder:
- GRAND – 100x the total bet
- MAJOR – 50x the total bet
- MINOR – 25x the total bet
- MINI – 10x the total bet
Because one of each type is already on the board when the round begins, every jackpot is live from the first spin. Which one you collect is down to what lands, and the GRAND sits there waiting. At a 1.00 stake that’s 100.00 for the top tier, scaling in lockstep with the bet above and below it.
Buy Bonus
Both features can be bought outright from the base game. The prices:
- Hold and Win – 20x the current total bet
- Jackpot Hold and Win – 40x the current total bet
Stakes run from 0.10 to 500 per spin, so the Hold and Win buy costs between 2.00 and 10,000, and the jackpot version double that. At the cheapest stake the ladder is worth 1.00 to 10.00; at the top end the GRAND alone is 50,000. The Hold and Win buy runs at 96.01% RTP, a hair under the base game’s 96.08%.
The pricing gap between the two buys is the interesting part. Forty times the stake is a lot for a round whose top prize is 100x, so the jackpot buy is really a bet on the GRAND landing early rather than a value play.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 6.9/10
Most of your time here is spent waiting for clover coins. The base game is a wild, a paytable and not much else, and the spinning between features is flat in a way that only a jackpot chaser will forgive. But the waiting is the point: this is a game you pick for the sticky-coin rounds and the four-tier ladder behind them, not for what happens on the way.
The strength is the jackpot round’s opening board. Because every tier is live from the first symbol, no round starts dead, and the race between four jackpots gives even a short feature somewhere to land. The GRAND tops the jackpot ladder at 100x the total bet, and the 40x buy price makes that top tier a thin target rather than a prize worth chasing.
If you like hold-and-win games and don’t need a busy base game to keep you spinning, the rainbow’s worth following. Players who want multiplier features or four-figure potential won’t find it here. For the pot-of-gold crowd, though, it pours exactly the right amount.
