ChongFu Jiangpin Emperor’s Crown Slot Review
Two fat paper lanterns glow over a gilded temple frame, three coin-brimming pots perch on the roofline, and a crimson wall of swirling peonies holds it all together. For all that festival splendour, ChongFu Jiangpin Emperor’s Crown has almost no interest in its own line wins: the paytable is a formality, and everything that matters runs through one symbol. A spin that lands no coins is, in practical terms, a spin the game didn’t turn up for.
It’s a Lightning Box Games build on a 5×4 grid playing 40 fixed lines, and the studio’s earlier work on Ember Link Heaven’s Peak and Lightning Leopard covered similar collect-and-climb territory. If you come to this one for anything, come for what sits above the reels.
Forty Lines and a Wild
The reels sit five across and four deep, with 40 fixed paylines running left to right. Only the highest win on each line counts. Wins across different lines add together.
It’s a conventional setup, and the game doesn’t dress the mechanics up beyond the temple framing around them. The interest sits elsewhere, in the special symbols stacked on top of the ordinary ones.
The paying symbols run from the royals up through a set of themed premiums, all rendered in the same glossy, gilded cartoon style as the frame. The full roster looks like this:
- A, K, Q and J – the royal low pays
- Gold ingot
- Cat
- Frog
- Bamboo
- Red envelope
- The wild, which substitutes for all symbols except scatters
- The coin symbols, in several colours, each carrying Chinese characters
That last entry is the one to watch. The coins don’t pay as ordinary line symbols – they’re the ticket to everything the game actually does. Land them and the reel set starts working towards the features rather than paying line wins.
The wild, by contrast, stays in its lane. It fills gaps in premium combinations and nothing more, which keeps the attention on the coins. A wild-assisted line win is still the smaller half of what a spin can deliver here.
With 40 lines across a five-by-four grid, the hit area is generous: four rows give each reel more stops, and more stops give the coin symbols more places to land. That matters more in this game than in most, because the coins are doing the structural work.
Coin Symbols and the Feature Trigger
The coin rules come in two parts, and the split is the whole point:
- Any coin symbol may trigger a feature – one is enough, so every coin landing carries a chance
- Four or more coin symbols guarantee a feature trigger – the threshold that settles the matter
The two-tier structure does more work than it first appears to. Because a lone coin can fire a feature, no spin that shows one is entirely dead.
And because four guarantee it, there’s a visible milestone to chase on any spin where two or three are already sitting on the grid. The guarantee turns a near-miss into a countdown.
It also changes how you read a spin in progress. On a 40-line game with a four-row grid, coins can cluster quickly, and a grid that already holds three of them is one landing away from certainty. The game’s design pushes you to notice the coins before anything else on the screen.
The ChongFu Feature
The ChongFu Feature is the game’s headline round. It takes over with a dedicated screen, and it plays out in a fixed sequence:
- A prize value appears above each reel
- Triggering the feature wins the prize above that reel – which reels carry your coins determines what you collect
- The round runs on respins, tracked by an on-screen counter
- A REPEAT tile can appear on the final reel
- If it lands, the round runs again
The repeat step carries the round. A single entry into the feature can pay out several times over if the repeats keep landing.
The prizes above the reels are multiples of your stake rather than fixed amounts, so they scale with your bet. The repeat mechanic means the feature win isn’t limited to what you first trigger.
The respin counter gives the round a rhythm of its own. The respin counter gives the round a rhythm of its own.
The Jackpot Ladder
Three ceramic pots perch above the reels, labelled Stack+Repeat, Jackpot and Super+Repeat. They’re tied to a four-tier jackpot ladder, and they’re visible during ordinary play rather than hidden inside a bonus round.
- Grand – the top tier, displayed live above the reels
- Major – second tier, also displayed live
- Minor – pays 50x your bet
- Mini – pays 10x your bet
As with the feature prizes, the jackpot values are multiples of stake, so the on-screen figures move with your bet size rather than sitting as fixed sums. The lower two tiers are modest by ladder standards. The interest is all in the top pair.
The pot labels are Stack+Repeat, Jackpot and Super+Repeat, and the pots are linked to the four-tier ladder shown above the reels.
The pots give the top screen something to look at between feature triggers, sitting above the reels throughout ordinary play.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.1/10
Playing this is mostly watching for coins. The festival hall is gorgeous, the line wins tick over politely, but the real game only starts when a coin drops, and the reason to choose it is that every single coin carries a live chance of firing something. Plenty of slots make you wait for scatters; this one keeps a small door open on every spin.
The repeat logic is the best thing here – a feature trigger that can run again makes one entry worth more than its face value. The weak spot is the bottom of the ladder: Mini and Minor are token payments, so the mid-range wins that keep most players afloat barely exist.
It suits the patient collector who enjoys a build and doesn’t need regular hits to stay interested. Anyone after steady line-win action will find the paytable thin. For the coin-counters, though, the lanterns stay lit and the pots keep filling.
