Clash of Claws Slot Review
Claws out, 25 symbol positions, and only 15 paylines to fight over: Clash of Claws builds its ring deliberately tight. The 5×5 grid from Bitpunch is bigger than the game knows what to do with on a line-count this small, and that tension is the whole design. Wins land on barely one spin in five, at 94% RTP and Super High volatility.
What the game does with those rare wins is its real idea: each meaningful one gets settled by a contest rather than handed over quietly. It’s a coin flip wearing boxing gloves, and it works. Bitpunch’s earlier Coins of Cleo and Headhunter played it straighter; this one doesn’t. Whether the brawl justifies the wait is the honest question.
Base Game & Features
The reel set is bigger than most: five reels and five rows, with 15 fixed paylines running across them. A taller grid with a small line count means plenty of symbol positions that don’t touch a payline at all. On a board with 25 positions, 15 lines is a deliberate squeeze.
Stakes run from 0.10 to 50 per spin, a narrower band than many Super High volatility games offer. The headline numbers, in short:
- Grid – 5×5, five reels and five rows
- Paylines – 15 fixed
- RTP – 94%
- Volatility – Super High
- Hit frequency – 20.73%, roughly one winning spin in five
- Stakes – 0.10 to 50 per spin
Symbols
The reel set splits into two tiers. The lower tier is the card royals; the upper tier is a set of character symbols, which carry the bigger pays. The full cast on the grid:
- A – top of the royal ladder and the symbol to watch
- K, Q, J – mid-table royals
- 10 – the bottom of the card tier
- Character symbols – the premium tier above the royals
- Wild (W) – substitutes for paying symbols
- Scatter – lands on the reels to unlock the bonus round
The Wild is the pivot for everything that follows. It doesn’t just substitute: it expands, it can clone itself, and it drags multipliers into play. A standard expanding wild on a five-row reel covers a lot of ground on 15 lines.
Wins pay left to right across the fixed lines, and the royals do most of the day-to-day work on those lines. The A symbol sits at the top of that tier, and a full line of them is the royal win to beat. The character symbols above them pay the bigger multiples when they connect.
Feature Triggers
Four things can change a spin, each with its own trigger:
- VS Wild – triggers when a Wild symbol appears on the reels
- Random Wilds – can accompany the Expanding Wilds
- Expanding Wild Battle – triggers when two expanding wild multiplier reels appear
- Free Spins – triggers on three or more Scatters
VS Wild
When a Wild lands, it expands to cover its reel. The expansion produces two random multipliers, one on each side of the fight. Those two multipliers then face off in a Battle, and the one that wins is the one applied to the win.
The sequence, in order:
- A Wild symbol appears on the reels
- The Wild expands to fill its reel
- Two random multipliers are produced
- A Battle runs between the two values
- The winning multiplier is applied to the win
The trigger is simply the Wild appearing – there’s no second condition to meet, no collection meter to fill first. Any Wild on any reel can start the sequence, which makes it the modifier you’ll lean on most in the base game.
Random Wilds
The Expanding Wilds can also hand out random Wilds as they land, dropping extra wild symbols onto the grid and increasing the chance of a winning line. It’s the quietest of the modifiers, but on a 5×5 grid a few extra wilds can connect paylines in a hurry.
The extra wilds land on top of the expansion rather than replacing it, so a single triggering spin can end with a covered reel plus scattered wilds elsewhere. On 15 lines, that’s the difference between one improved line and several new ones.
Clash of Claws Free Spins & Bonus Features
Free Spins
Three or more Scatters trigger the Free Spins round. Two Scatters aren’t enough – they can land together on the reels, but the round stays locked until a third arrives.
Inside the round, the battle mechanics carry the biggest win potential. The Expanding Wild Battle doesn’t sit in the base game alone; it’s the engine of the free spins too, which is where the multipliers get their room to run.
Landing enough Scatters is the only route into the round for players who don’t use the buy.
Expanding Wild Battle
This is the headline event. When two expanding wild multiplier reels appear, they don’t simply stack – they fight, and the battle decides which of the two multipliers carries into the win. It’s the same contest the VS Wild runs in miniature, blown up to full-reel scale.
Because the outcome is a choice between two random values, every battle carries a range rather than a fixed result. On a Super High volatility game, that range is doing a lot of the payout work: the base game pays rarely, and the multipliers are where the sizeable wins have to come from.
Bonus Buy
A Bonus Buy option lets players skip the Scatter hunt and go straight to the Free Spins round. Given the base game’s one-in-five hit rate, it’s an understandable route in. The price scales with your stake, so at the top stake of 50 the buy is a serious commitment rather than a shortcut.
What the buy covers, in summary:
- Entry to – the Free Spins round, no Scatters required
- What’s active – the Expanding Wild Battle and all modifiers
- What it doesn’t buy – anything outside the round; the base game is still where you’ll spend most of your time without it
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 6.5/10
Playing this is mostly waiting. Four spins in five give you nothing, and the fifth is usually a royal line that barely moves the balance. You come for the moments when a wild lands, the two multipliers square up, and the game briefly turns into something rowdier than its maths suggests.
The battle is the best thing here, and it earns it: making a random multiplier pick feel like an event is a genuinely clever piece of dressing, and the free spins stack those events on top of each other. The cost is real, though. A 94% RTP is a poor return at any volatility.
This is a game for people who enjoy the fight more than the payout table, and who don’t mind paying for the privilege. If steady returns matter to you, it’ll frustrate. If they don’t, the claws are sharp enough to be worth a round or two.
