Treasure of Vikings: Hold & Win Slot Review
Treasure of Vikings: Hold & Win is a hold-and-win game where the paytable barely matters. The paylines top out at 12.5x the total bet, but Coins worth up to 500x land on every grid, and the whole design funnels you towards them: a hand-drawn Viking shrine of timber pillars and carved animal chests, where a wolf, a raven and a bull perch over the reels waiting to each open a different bonus round.
The studio behind it is Bitpunch, a name readers of Clash of Claws and Coins of Cleo will recognise. The game runs on a 4×5 reel set with 40 paylines and a win cap of 5,000x the bet. Three respin-based bonus games, a hold-and-collect base mechanic and a four-tier prize ladder do the heavy lifting. Whether the longhouse holds anything worth raiding is the question.
The Base Game: Coins, Chests and 40 Paylines
Wins are conventional enough: identical symbols on consecutive reels from the left, three or more needed, and only the highest combination counts on each payline. The wild substitutes for all regular symbols except Coins, and it’s the richest symbol on the board by a distance. Hearts, Clubs and Spades fill the low end alongside the Viking cast.
- Viking Man (horned helmet): 0.5x / 2x / 5x the total bet for three, four, five
- Viking Woman or Old Man: 0.3x / 1.5x / 4x
- Hammer or Axe/Spear: 0.2x / 1x / 2.5x
- Wild: 1x / 5x / 12.5x
Those multiples are of the total bet, not the line bet. The real business of the base game isn’t the paylines, though. It’s the Coins.
Coins and the Cash Collect Chest
Coins land carrying their own cash values, from 0.5x the bet all the way up to 500x, displayed already multiplied by the current stake. They don’t pay as part of a line and don’t need to sit on one. The Cash Collect Symbol, a treasure chest, is what unlocks them.
Whenever the chest lands anywhere on the reels, it scoops up the value of every Coin in view and pays it out instantly. If it arrives alongside a payline win, the collect prize is paid separately. The chest is the only thing that cashes Coins in during the main game.
Animal Coins and the Trigger
Special Animal Coins carry no cash value of their own. They can only appear on reels 2, 3 and 4, and each one can randomly trigger the bonus game its animal owns. The Wolf on reel 2 opens the Fireball Bonus Game, the Raven on reel 3 the Infinity Bonus Game, and the Bull on reel 4 the Multiplier Bonus Game.
Whichever animal collects, the round opens with three respins.
Fireball Bonus Game
The Fireball round is the one that grows. It starts on a 4×5 reel set with a second 4×5 grid locked beside it, and only Coins and Wolf Fireballs can land, both sticking where they fall. Every new symbol resets the respin counter to three. Collect enough symbols and the locked grid unlocks, with a progress bar tracking the way.
The Fireball itself is the twist. When one lands, it picks up to four other Coins on the reels at random and boosts each of their values by a random amount between 0.5x and 500x, before turning into a Coin of its own.
The round runs until the respins run dry or every position across the unlocked grids is filled.
Infinity Bonus Game
Infinity breaks the hold-and-win mould it sits in. Coins and Raven multiplier symbols land on a 4×5 set, but nothing sticks: every symbol lasts one spin only. Each new Coin still resets the respins to three, and its value is banked in a Vault beside the reels, where the running total builds for the whole round.
The Raven’s multiplier circle can’t land alone. It only multiplies the Coins arriving in the same spin, at a random value between 2x and 10x, and it leaves the Vault balance and any Mega Prizes untouched. When the respins run out, the Vault pays whatever it holds. It’s the fastest of the three rounds.
Multiplier Bonus Game
The Multiplier round plays closest to a classic collect feature. Coins and Bull Cash Collect symbols land on a 4×5 set and stay put for the whole round, with each new Coin resetting the respins to three. A Random Multiplier reel spins before every respin, showing 2x, 3x or 5x.
That multiplier applies to newly landed Coins only, never to the Bull, to Coins already on the reels or to Mega Prizes. When the Bull lands, it collects the value of every Coin on the reels and transforms into a single Coin showing that total.
The board compresses into one big number while the round keeps spinning, and at the end everything on the reels is paid.
Mega Prizes
Running across all three bonus games is a four-tier prize ladder, fed by Sword tokens that can arrive attached to Coins or land on their own. Collecting the Swords fills a counter, and a filled counter pays instantly. Each prize can only be won once per bonus session.
- Mini: 10x the bet (2 Swords)
- Minor: 50x the bet (3 Swords)
- Major: 1,000x the bet (4 Swords)
- Grand: 5,000x the bet (5 Swords)
Once a counter is filled it stays filled for the rest of the session, so Swords collected towards a prize already claimed aren’t wasted, they simply bank the tier. The Grand matches the game’s maximum win cap of 5,000x the bet, and once that cap is reached any remaining feature spins are forfeited.
Golden Bet and Buying the Bonus
Two options sit behind the Power-ups button. The Golden Bet adds 1.5x to the stake per spin and doubles the chance of triggering a bonus game. It’s a straightforward price for a straightforward boost, and players who plan to grind for the features will want to weigh it against buying in.
The Buy Random Bonus Game costs 50x the stake and drops you into one of the three rounds at random, with the usual respin count. There’s no choosing which one, which is a shame: the three rounds play differently enough that a buyer is paying full price for a lucky dip.
One number governs everything: the game has a maximum win cap of 5,000x the bet, and any remaining feature spins are forfeited the moment it’s reached. All bonus games run at the bet level of the triggering spin, and bonus wins are added to any win from the spin that started them.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.7/10
Playing this is mostly waiting: spin after spin of modest line wins while Coins stack up, hoping a chest arrives to cash them before an Animal Coin opens the doors. That’s the appeal, though, and it’s a genuinely good version of it. The waiting is the point, and the three rounds behind it are worth the patience.
The strength is variety. Three rounds built on the same three respins that play nothing alike, one banking, one expanding, one collapsing into a single number, means the game never settles into a rhythm you can predict.
The weakness is that you rarely get to choose which round, and the buy doesn’t let you either. Fans of collect features and patient bankrolls will feel at home in this shrine; anyone wanting frequent line wins should keep sailing past it.
