Dia De Los Muertos 2 Slot Review
A sunlit Mexican plaza, terracotta arches, orange trees heavy with fruit, paper lanterns glowing on the walls, and a hooded skeleton in a dark red robe watching from the right edge. For all that colour, Endorphina has built Dia De Los Muertos 2 as a patient game: one of the highest return rates you’ll meet anywhere, sitting on top of a base game that pays in fractions and saves almost everything for its free games.
The total RTP is 98.05%, and the game runs on a 6×5 grid of scattered symbols rather than paylines, with cascading wins and multipliers reaching 500x. Players who enjoyed Fresh Crush, Joker Miner or Minotaur ReBurn will recognise the studio’s fondness for accumulate-and-collect mechanics, taken furthest here.
Scattered Symbols on the 6×5 Grid
Dia De Los Muertos 2 doesn’t use paylines at all. It’s a cascading reels game with scattered symbols only: position doesn’t matter, only how many of a kind land anywhere on the six-by-five grid. Eight matching symbols is the minimum for a win, with the pays rising at ten-plus and twelve-plus. It’s the cluster-pays logic players will know from other tumble games.
There’s no wild symbol in this game. The one symbol that behaves differently is the Bonus, a skull-faced scatter that pays 3x for four, 5x for five and 100x for six or more, and triggers the free games when four or more land.
The paying symbols split into two families. The premium end is musical and culinary: a guitar, maracas, a red chili scroll and a lime. Below them sit five sugar skulls in orange and gold, teal, blue, purple and green, stepping down in value from one colour to the next.
All symbol values below are multiples of the total bet, and only the highest combination pays:
- Guitar – 50x for 12+, 25x for 10-11, 10x for 8-9
- Maracas – 25x for 12+, 10x for 10-11, 2.5x for 8-9
- Red chili scroll – 15x for 12+, 5x for 10-11, 2x for 8-9
- Lime – 12x for 12+, 2x for 10-11, 1.5x for 8-9
- Orange and gold skull – 10x for 12+, 1.5x for 10-11, 1x for 8-9
- Teal skull – 8x for 12+, 1.2x for 10-11, 0.8x for 8-9
- Blue skull – 5x for 12+, 1x for 10-11, 0.5x for 8-9
- Purple skull – 4x for 12+, 0.9x for 10-11, 0.4x for 8-9
- Green skull – 2x for 12+, 0.75x for 10-11, 0.25x for 8-9
Cascading Reels
When enough regular symbols land, they complete a winning combination, pay out and disappear. Everything above the cleared spots drops into the gaps, and the remaining empty space fills with new symbols falling from the top. If those fresh symbols form another regular win, the cascade keeps going.
A single spin can therefore pay several times over, as new symbols tumble in and cluster while earlier winners clear the board. The multipliers described further down attach themselves to whatever the final cascade produces, so a spin that starts modestly can finish well above where it began.
Bonus symbols work differently: they don’t disappear with the tumble. They play at the end of the winning cascade, once the dust settles, and only if enough of them are on the grid by then to count.
Free Games with Multipliers Accumulator
The free games are the main event. Four or more Bonus symbols trigger 15 free games with the Multipliers Accumulator switched on, and the round can be extended: three or more Bonus symbols while it runs add five further spins at the original bet. Multipliers never change the number of free games won; they only affect what the wins are worth.
The accumulator is what makes the round worth chasing. Every multiplier that activates during the free games feeds a running total on a counter, and that total keeps building for as long as the feature lasts. Free games only begin once any pending multipliers have been applied.
Multipliers
Multipliers can land on the reels in both the main game and the free games, in fifteen values: X2, X3, X4, X5, X6, X8, X10, X12, X15, X20, X25, X50, X100, X250 and X500. They only apply when a paytable win is hit, and they activate at the end of the winning cascade, producing no further tumbling of their own.
In the main game, all multipliers present on the reels when the cascade ends are added together and applied to that cascade’s winnings. Simple enough. In the free games it works differently, and better: every activated multiplier is accumulated into the total multiplier on the counter.
Each time a winning cascade ends with multipliers on the reels, the counter’s value appears next to the win, the values on the reels are added to it one by one, and the updated total is applied to the cascade’s winnings.
If a cascade ends with no multipliers on the reels, the total stays where it is and doesn’t apply to that win – it’s held back for the next multiplier-backed cascade. That’s the engine of the round: early wins build the counter, and later wins cash it in.
Risk Game
After any win, there’s an optional gamble. Four cards are dealt face down; pick one and it goes up against the Dealer’s card. Beat the Dealer and the win doubles, with the option to go again for up to ten attempts in total.
If the Dealer takes any round, the winnings are gone and the Risk Game ends immediately. Taking the risk every time carries an average return of 84%, so a large win is a lot to lay on a single card.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.8/10
This is a game you play for the counter, not the reels. Most of the session is small tumble wins in a beautifully painted plaza, and the whole point of sitting through it is the moment four skull scatters finally land and the free games start compounding.
The accumulator is the best thing here, because nothing goes to waste: a cascade that ends without multipliers still banks the running total for the next one, so a good round keeps ratcheting upward with 15 spins and retriggers behind it. The weakness is the wait. Base wins sit in small multiples of the bet, and needing four scatters makes the interesting part feel a long way off.
It suits players who like a slow build towards a payout that compounds, and it doesn’t suit anyone chasing frequent meaningful wins from the base game. Like the festival it celebrates, this one rewards those who stick around for the late night.
