Eastern Emeralds Megaways

Eastern Emeralds Megaways Slot Review

Quickspin have built a recognisable reputation with polished slots that emphasise high-quality visuals over gimmicks, and their approach to Megaways conversions follows this pattern. Eastern Emeralds Megaways revives the 2018 original with significantly enhanced win mechanics, pushing paylines from a standard 243 ways to a potential 16,807 ways to win. The visual execution is sharp and intricate, positioning this within Quickspin’s tier of elegant Oriental-themed releases.

The original Eastern Emeralds featured multiple bonus options and multiplier mechanics, so the Megaways treatment was somewhat inevitable. Quickspin previously collaborated with Big Time Gaming on Big Bad Wolf Megaways, establishing their approach to licensed mechanics. This iteration maintains the beloved aesthetic whilst modernising the volatility profile with a maximum win capacity of 17,421x stake, an improvement over the original’s roughly 16,003x potential.

Base Game & Features

Eastern Emeralds Megaways operates on a 5-reel grid with dynamic row configuration ranging from 2 to 7 symbols per reel. This variability generates between 32 and 16,807 ways to win on any given spin, calculated as 7×7×7×7×7 when all reels reach maximum height. Winning combinations require 3 or more matching symbols landing consecutively from the leftmost reel.

The paytable features high-paying symbols including the Lion (top-tier), alongside Fish, Turtle, and Fortune Cookie premiums. Low-paying positions are filled with standard card ranks from Ten through Ace. The RTP sits at 96.04% in base game mode, with bet ranges accommodating players from £0.20 minimum to £100 maximum per spin across 16 staking options.

Multiplier Wilds

Wild symbols appear exclusively on reels 2 through 5, substituting for all regular symbols except Scatters. Each Wild carries a multiplier value of either x2, x3, x4, or x5 during base gameplay. When multiple Multiplier Wilds contribute to the same winning combination, their values multiply together before applying to the total win. This multiplicative stacking creates the foundation for the game’s substantial payout potential.

Eastern Emeralds Megaways Free Spins

Landing 3 or more Phoenix-covered Scatter symbols anywhere across the reels triggers the Free Spins round. Upon activation, a Picker screen presents four distinct bonus configurations, each offering an inverse relationship between spin quantity and multiplier strength. This volatility customisation mechanic allows players to tailor the bonus experience to their risk tolerance.

• Option 1: 15, 30, or 60 Free Spins (triggered by 3, 4, or 5 Scatters) with x2-x5 Multiplier Wilds, combining to x120 maximum
• Option 2: 12, 24, or 48 Free Spins with x3-x6 Multiplier Wilds, combining to x360 maximum
• Option 3: 9, 18, or 36 Free Spins with x4-x7 Multiplier Wilds, combining to x840 maximum
• Option 4: 6, 12, or 24 Free Spins with x5-x8 Multiplier Wilds, combining to x1,680 maximum

The game design philosophy is clear: fewer spins paired with higher multipliers delivers extreme volatility, whilst the generous spin allocation in Option 1 provides a more conservative approach. Scatter symbols do not appear during the free spins round, making retriggers impossible. This distinguishes Eastern Emeralds Megaways from other titles in the genre where bonus extensions are common.

Gamble Feature

After selecting a free spins option, players triggering the bonus with 3 or 4 Scatters receive the opportunity to gamble their allocation. The gamble presents a 50/50 wheel featuring two Golden Fish: one awards zero spins (forfeiting the entire bonus), whilst the other doubles the current spin count. Successful gamblers can repeat the process recursively, though the risk remains constant. Players triggering with 5 Scatters cannot access this feature, proceeding directly to their maximum spin allocation.

Bonus Buy

Players outside the UK can purchase immediate access to the Free Spins Picker screen for 90x their current stake. Engaging the Bonus Buy increases the RTP from 96.04% to 96.29%, providing a marginal statistical advantage. The feature remains unavailable to UK-based players due to regulatory restrictions.

Our Honest Verdict

Rating: 8.2/10

Quickspin deliver a polished Megaways conversion that prioritises player agency over mechanical innovation. The four-option volatility selection provides meaningful customisation, allowing both conservative players (Option 1’s 60 spins) and extreme variance chasers (Option 4’s x1,680 potential) to find suitable configurations. The multiplier wild system drives core engagement, particularly during free spins where combinations can rapidly accumulate value.

The 17,421x maximum win sits comfortably within high-volatility expectations, though it won’t satisfy those seeking the 50,000x+ territory occupied by more aggressive releases. The 5/5 volatility rating on Quickspin’s scale confirms this as maximum variance gameplay, demanding substantial bankrolls for extended sessions. Players familiar with the original will recognise the aesthetic refinement whilst appreciating the expanded payline structure.

The absence of retrigger mechanics distinguishes this from standard Megaways implementations, focusing win potential entirely on the initial bonus configuration and multiplier combinations. Fans of Oriental-themed slots seeking elegant execution will find this alongside genre peers, though those expecting groundbreaking innovation beyond the Megaways mechanic itself may find the offering somewhat predictable. It remains a solid choice for original Eastern Emeralds enthusiasts and Megaways collectors prioritising polish over novelty.
