Fangs & Fire Slot Review
A golden dragon and a golden tiger crouch above the reels of Fangs & Fire, flanking a gong that matters more than either beast. That’s the honest reading of this game: for all its mythic dressing, it has essentially one way to pay, and it builds five different routes to the same gong line rather than five different features. Play’n GO have bet everything on that single idea paying off.
The base setup is a 5×3 grid with 243 win ways, 96.36% RTP and high volatility, and there’s no conventional free spins round at all. Players who enjoyed the studio’s Bao Shi or Rings of Prosperity will recognise the territory, though this one leans harder on linked number symbols than either of those. The dragon and the tiger each guard their own bonus round, and when both show up together the grid grows.
243 Ways and the Reel Set
Wins pay left to right across adjacent reels, and because every position connects, the game runs 243 fixed win ways rather than paylines. Multiple ways in one round add together, and only the highest combination counts per symbol. It’s a familiar system, and it needs no more explanation than that.
The low end of the reel set is card royals, 10 through A. Premium symbols are the theme-related icons, and they carry the larger payouts. There’s no wild in the game; the special symbols do all the heavy lifting, and there are three of them.
- The Serpent Scatter, a dragon symbol, triggers the Serpent Bonus.
- The Prowler Scatter, a tiger symbol, triggers the Prowler Bonus.
- The Gong, the bonus symbol, drives the Link’n GO feature and every bonus round in the game.
The gong appears in a few forms: a plain golden gong, a gong with a revealed value, and a connected line once adjacent gongs link up. An arrow symbol also appears on gongs, and it randomly increases the value on the leftmost one.
Where the scatter pair each open one door, the gong is the door.
Link’n GO
Link’n GO is the game’s core payout mechanic, and it triggers when two or more gong symbols form an uninterrupted horizontal line on the reels. Each gong in the line then reveals either a number or an arrow, and the arrows resolve first.
Each arrow activates in sequence, moves to the leftmost position in the line, and adds its weight to the first symbol’s value. The position an arrow leaves behind shows 0.
Once every arrow has resolved, the final values on adjacent gongs read as one number, which is then multiplied to produce the win. The multiplier depends on the bet you’ve set.
A single gong in the line can carry any of these values:
- 0 through 10
- 15
- 20
- 25
- 40
Those arrows matter more than they first appear. A line of small numbers can turn into something respectable purely because the arrows stacked onto the leftmost gong.
The reading order is what makes the difference. A line of 4, 0 and 7 reads as 407, not eleven.
Celestial Gong Bonus
The Celestial Gong Bonus is a random base game saver. It can fire when there’s at least one gong on the grid, no way wins have landed, Link’n GO hasn’t activated, and none of the three main bonuses have triggered either.
When it does, a random number of extra gongs, between three and ten, drop onto the grid in random positions. If those gongs form a win, it pays by the Link’n GO rules.
That’s the whole feature, and it’s a neat one: a spin that looked dead can turn into a paying line without warning.
One thing worth knowing, because the presentation invites the opposite conclusion: the visual state of the Big Gong at the top of the reels has no effect on the chance of this bonus triggering or on how many gongs get added. It’s theatre, not a meter.
Prowler Bonus
Three or more Prowler Scatters anywhere on the reels trigger the Prowler Bonus. It can also fire at random when one or two Prowler Scatters land, provided no Serpent Scatters are in view.
You get three re-spins on the 5×3 grid, and every position spins individually, landing either a gong or an empty space. Each gong that lands resets the re-spin counter back to three.
The round runs until the re-spins are consumed or the grid fills with 15 gongs, after which adjacent gongs pay out through the Link’n GO rules. It’s a hold-and-style format, but the payout is pure Link’n GO: the aim isn’t to collect coin values, it’s to build connected lines of gongs whose numbers read well together. Like the Celestial Gong Bonus, the tiger statue’s visual state doesn’t affect the random trigger chance.
Serpent Bonus
Three or more Serpent Scatters anywhere trigger the Serpent Bonus, and it can also fire randomly from one or two Serpent Scatters when no Prowler Scatters are showing.
This one is over almost before it starts. You get a single spin on an expanded 5×7 grid, with each position again landing a gong or an empty space. Once the spin finishes, adjacent gongs pay by the Link’n GO rules. No re-spins, no resets. One throw of the dice on a bigger board.
The dragon statue’s visual state, like the tiger’s, has no bearing on the random trigger. What the Serpent Bonus trades in tension it trades back in grid space: 35 positions instead of 15, and therefore far more room for long connected gong lines.
Serpent & Prowler Bonus
The headline round needs any combination of five scatters in any position, mixing dragon and tiger symbols however they fall. One or two of each scatter landing together can also set it off at random from the base game.
You get three re-spins on the full 5×7 grid, with only the bottom three rows unlocked at the start. The remaining four rows unlock sequentially over the first ten spins on the active rows, so the board literally grows as you keep landing gongs.
Any gong on an unlocked row resets the re-spin counter to three, and the round ends when the re-spins run out or all 35 positions fill. There’s a fixed target on top of the Link’n GO payouts: land 30 gongs in the unlocked rows and the Mythical Prize pays 5,000x the bet. Filling a 35-position grid while rows unlock one stretch at a time is a steep ask, but the resets give it room to run.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.8/10
Sessions here live or die on the gongs. You spin a pretty temple, watch a lot of near-misses drift past, and every so often a horizontal line forms and the game suddenly has an opinion about you. That’s the whole appeal, and it’s a real one: few games make a single mechanic feel this central to everything they do.
The strength is variety without incoherence. Three bonus rounds of genuinely different shapes, a random rescue in the base game, and a 5,000x prize at the top, all paying through the same system, means no two routes to a win feel like copies of each other.
The weakness is the waiting. With no wild, no multiplier and nothing to win on a spin the gongs ignore, the base game can feel like a corridor between features, and high volatility makes that corridor long.
For players who enjoy a build-your-own-number feature and can sit through quiet stretches, it’s an easy recommendation. Anyone who wants regular action from every spin will find the temple quiet between bells. It rewards exactly the patience its misty mountains suggest.
