Fiona of Lucksley Slot Review
A moonlit forest, a red-haired archer in a green corset dress standing at the edge of the reels with a longbow across her body and a glowing pot of golden eggs at her feet. This is Sherwood reimagined, and the reels themselves sit inside a big circular carnival wheel studded with bulbs, its green, purple and gold segments peeking out from behind the strips. Fiona of Lucksley pays out even when it lets you down, and that’s its best idea: miss the bonus by one reel and the game hands you half a multiplier instead of nothing.
Gold Coin Studios has built it on a 5-reel grid with reel heights of 3-4-5-4-3, 720 ways paying both directions, 96.01% RTP, Very High volatility, a hit rate of 24.75% and stakes from 0.20 to 50.00 per spin. There’s a family resemblance to Knights of the Golden Egg, Amelia’s Mugs and Jugs and Ghost Money Manor. Worth your time or not?
Base Game & Features
It’s a heavily rendered piece of work, all saturated greens and gold, with tall dark tree trunks and hanging canopy crowding the top corners and shafts of pale light falling between them. Tiny golden motes and fireflies drift across the forest floor along the bottom of the screen. A small ornate prize wheel with a tiny figure at its base hovers above the top-left of the frame.
Wins are way wins rather than paylines. A way is a pattern of adjacent symbol positions running across the reels, and this game has 720 of them. Way wins run from left to right and right to left, starting from the first and last reel respectively, and a win is awarded when matching symbols land adjacent to each other in that pattern.
Paying both directions is unusual, and with 720 ways the geometry does real work. Way wins are multiplied by a bet multiplier fixed at 10, so the total bet is always the initial bet times that multiplier. Only the highest winning combination is awarded per symbol combination, and the total payout is the sum of all way wins and scatter wins on a spin.
The paytable runs from royals up to Fiona herself:
- Fiona – the top-paying symbol, full-length on the reels
- K – royal rank
- Q – royal rank
- J – royal rank
- A – royal rank
Wilds are the FIONA letter symbols, and they land stacked. They appear only on reels 2, 3 and 4, and they substitute for all symbols except the Free Spins Scatter and the Jackpot Trigger.
Stacked wilds across the middle reels with both-directions ways is where the base game’s bigger wins come from.
The Free Spins Multiplier Meter
The meter sits in the corner of the screen, starting at 1x. It climbs only in the base game: whenever Free Spins Scatters land on exactly four of the five reels, the multiplier increases by 0.5x. The base game caps it at 10x.
It can’t increase during the bonus itself, so everything you take into free spins is banked beforehand. The design is deliberate. Near-miss scatters, the ones that land on four reels and miss the trigger, aren’t dead spins: they feed the meter.
A meter you’ve spent the base game filling, worth up to 15x on entry to free spins, is the reason to keep spinning this particular forest.
The Jackpot Ladder
Five jackpots sit above the reels, one per reel, and their starting values, as multiples of the bet, look like this:
- Mini – 5x
- Minor – 10x
- Maxi – 50x
- Major – 200x
- Mega – 1,000x
Each Jackpot Trigger symbol that lands on a reel adds 0.5x your bet to that reel’s jackpot, so the ladder climbs as you play. Once a jackpot has been awarded, that specific jackpot resets to its starting value. Jackpot values also scale with bet changes, so raising your stake raises every rung at once.
Fiona of Lucksley Free Spins & Jackpot Wheel
Scatters can land stacked in the base game, which matters: the trigger needs one or more Free Spins Scatters on every reel, and the feature begins with a minimum of six free spins. The trigger itself pays 1x your total bet.
What each scatter gives you is a choice baked into the trigger. Every scatter that landed awards either one additional free spin or a 1x increase to the Free Spins Multiplier. More spins or a bigger multiplier, decided per symbol at the moment of the trigger, with the multiplier capped at 15x on entry.
All bets and all ways played during the round are the same as the spin that triggered it. During the round, the multiplier applies to all way wins and to retrigger pays. Retriggering works the same way as the original trigger, one or more scatters on every reel, and the retrigger count equals the number of spins you started with.
The retrigger pays 1x total bet multiplied by whatever the Free Spins Multiplier has reached, which makes a retrigger on a fat meter worth considerably more than the flat 1x it started as.
Two limits apply: no retrigger and no Jackpot Wheel on the final spin of the round, and the multiplier resets to 1x once free spins finish.
The Jackpot Wheel
Collecting Jackpot Trigger symbols grants a chance of a spin on the wheel. Only the triggers collected on the current spin count towards that chance, and the collection pot you see filling on screen is purely decoration; it doesn’t influence the odds.
The wheel is divided into coloured segments, one per jackpot, and the segment it lands on awards the associated prize. One of the five is guaranteed every time it turns. It can hit in the base game and during free spins, but never on the spin that triggers free spins.
The probability of the wheel triggering shifts as the jackpot values change, so a ladder that has climbed high changes the trigger calculation as well as the prize. The Mega rung’s 1,000x starting value is the biggest fixed prize the game offers before ways and multipliers get involved.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.7/10
Playing Fiona of Lucksley feels like loitering in a very pretty forest waiting for something to happen, and the reason you’d stay is that the waiting itself pays: every near-miss feeds the meter, so a session is always building towards one well-set-up bonus rather than a string of disconnected spins.
The multiplier is the best thing in it. Banked entirely in the base game, spent entirely in the bonus, it turns a free spins entry into an event, and retriggers sweeten with it. The wheel is the letdown. Five prizes that top out at 1,000x the stake is thin for a Very High game, and the collection pot that looks like it’s deciding your fate does nothing at all.
It suits players who like watching a meter fill and cashing it in on one big round; it will grate on anyone chasing frequent bonuses or a jackpot worth the wait. Fiona’s pot rewards the patient.
