Game of Gladiators: Uprising Slot Review
Two gladiators wait behind barred gates at the edge of the arena, and the whole game is built on what they do next. Game of Gladiators: Uprising pushes nearly all of its value into three fighter symbols that serve as wild, scatter and feature trigger at once, so a single gladiator landing on the grid can turn an ordinary spin into something else entirely. Strip the fighters out and what’s left is a thin paytable of medallions and royals, which is a brave way to build a slot.
Play’n GO have built it on a 5×4 grid with 30 fixed paylines, running at 96.2% RTP with mid to high volatility. It sits in the studio’s character-led cluster alongside Legion Gold and Clash of Camelot, games where named heroes carry the features. Whether three gladiators are enough to hold the arena is the question this one has to answer.
Gladiator Wilds and the Arena Paytable
The three gladiators, Spartacus, Bellica and Emperor Gaius, act as both wild and scatter: they substitute for every other symbol and they trigger the features. Bellica is the only one who can appear expanded, and only during a re-spin, covering her entire reel. Spartacus stacks two to four symbols high and Emperor Gaius stacks two or three.
Wins pay on the 30 fixed lines, with multiple line wins and any feature or scatter wins added together and paid at the end of the round. A five-of-a-kind line of gladiator wilds is the richest symbol in the game at 30x the total bet.
Below the fighters, four medallions carry the standard pays, backed up by the letter symbols A, K, Q and J. Values are multiples of the total bet:
- Red helmet medallion – 5x for four, 30x for five
- Purple spiked ball medallion – 4x for four, 10x for five
- Blue hook medallion – 3x for four, 8x for five
- Green chain medallion – 2x for four, 5x for five
- Gladiator wild (any of the three) – 30x for five
Notice the shape of that ladder. Four of the best medallion still returns five times the total bet, and everything above it belongs to the gladiators themselves, which tells you where this game keeps its money: in the features, not the symbols.
Gladiator’s Oath Re-Spins
Land at least one gladiator symbol anywhere on the reels and a re-spin fires immediately, carrying that gladiator’s ability into the next round. Each fighter brings something different:
- Spartacus – Legion Slash: adds three to five wilds to the reels
- Bellica – Full Strike: adds one or two full-reel wilds
- Emperor Gaius – Emperor Strike: adds two or three x2 multiplier wilds, with only one multiplier applied per winning line
Gladiators landing during the re-spin don’t trigger another one, so the chain always ends after a single shot. It keeps the base game tidy: one fighter appears, does his or her thing, and the round resolves.
Because the gladiators are wilds as well as scatters, the re-spin is often a paying event in its own right. A Spartacus re-spin can drop five wilds onto the grid at once, and a Bellica re-spin with two full-reel wilds has a habit of covering several lines simultaneously. Emperor Gaius is the subtler of the three, but a doubled line is never unwelcome.
Champions of the Arena Free Spins
Two gladiator symbols landing together trigger the Champions of the Arena round, and this is where the game stops being a standard slot. The free spins run as a duel between two gladiators, each starting with three lives, and they continue until one fighter loses all of them or 100 free spins pass.
Before the round begins there’s Guess the Victor: pick which gladiator wins the battle and a correct call pays a bonus of 5x the total bet. It’s a simple side bet on a random result, and the battle’s outcome doesn’t affect what the free spins themselves pay. The round then plays out in a loop:
- Collect gladiator symbols as they land during the free spins
- Every five of the same gladiator reaches one of that fighter’s three attack points
- An attack point triggers a re-spin with that gladiator’s ability and a random multiplier – x2, x5, x10 or x50
- The re-spin costs the opponent one of their three lives
- Repeat until a gladiator runs out of lives or 100 free spins pass
Gladiator symbols can’t be collected during a re-spin, and lives can’t be regained. If the 100-spin ceiling is hit with both fighters still standing, the battle is declared a draw and the Guess the Victor bonus isn’t paid, unless both gladiators reached their third attack point on the same spin, in which case the reward is guaranteed regardless.
The structure rewards persistence from both corners. A gladiator who collects fastest hits attack points sooner, lands more ability re-spins and chips away at the opponent’s lives, so every collected symbol nudges the duel one way or the other even when the spin itself pays nothing.
Free spins run at the same bet and the same number of lines as the round that triggered them, and the bet can’t be changed mid-round. Auto Play is available from the menu, and holding the spin button for a second and a half speeds the reels up considerably.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.8/10
Playing this one is a long build towards a fight. A lone gladiator lands, fires a re-spin and fills the reels with wilds; then you wait, collecting fighters in the sand while the duel stays out of reach. That duel is the reason somebody chooses this over any other arena slot: the free spins aren’t a spin counter, they’re a battle with lives, and it’s a far better story for it.
The best thing here is that every collected symbol matters. Even a spin that pays nothing nudges the battle closer to an attack point, and the random multipliers riding those re-spins, up to x50, give the round genuine punch when it finally lands.
The weak part is everything between the fights. Medallion wins are modest, the royals fill most of the reels, and the draw rule can swallow the Guess the Victor bonus at the 100-spin limit. Still, for anyone who likes a feature with a narrative arc, and doesn’t mind lean spins while the fighters gather, this colosseum is worth the wait. Frequent line-win hunters will find the sand quiet.
