Golden Hoard Slot Review
Molten gold pours down the rocks on both sides of the screen, chains hang past the carved stone pillars, and a horned dragon spreads its wings into the stalactites above the title. For all that ornament, Golden Hoard is really a bonus round with a slot bolted on: the relic grid outside it is thin, and everything worth having arrives with the coins.
What’s underneath is less expected: a scatter-pays grid with no paylines at all, and one carefully built bonus round doing the heavy lifting. Urgent Games, the studio behind Celestial Blessings and Neverland, has kept this one lean.
It’s a 5×3 grid where three or more matching relics pay anywhere, symbols don’t need to touch, and a single round is capped at 4,500x the total bet. No free spins, no wheel, no pick-me. Just coins, and a lot of them.
Relics Anywhere on the Grid
The base game pays like a scatter slot. Three or more matching relics anywhere on the 5×3 grid form a win, and wins for different relics are added together. Only the highest matching count band pays for each relic, so a screen full of the same symbol settles on one band rather than stacking combinations. Simple, and it reads clearly at a glance.
There are five relics, and the count bands matter more than they usually do: because symbols don’t need to touch, a big splash of one relic can climb into the 8-9 or 10+ bands, where the money actually lives. Five of the top relic pays less than a third of what ten of it pays.
Every value below is a multiple of the total bet:
- Dragon Eye: 3 pays 3.87x, 4 pays 7.74x, 5 pays 15.48x, 6-7 pays 30.96x, 8-9 pays 61.92x, 10+ pays 212.85x
- Crown: 3 pays 3.096x, 4 pays 6.192x, 5 pays 12.384x, 6-7 pays 24.768x, 8-9 pays 50.31x, 10+ pays 162.54x
- Scepter: 3 pays 2.322x, 4 pays 4.644x, 5 pays 9.288x, 6-7 pays 18.576x, 8-9 pays 37.926x, 10+ pays 123.84x
- Chalice: 3 pays 1.935x, 4 pays 3.87x, 5 pays 7.74x, 6-7 pays 15.48x, 8-9 pays 30.96x, 10+ pays 96.75x
- Shard: 3 pays 1.548x, 4 pays 3.096x, 5 pays 6.192x, 6-7 pays 12.384x, 8-9 pays 24.768x, 10+ pays 77.4x
Hold & Win
The Respin Round
Six coins or more in a single base spin opens the feature with three respins. The triggering coins lock where they landed. Only the empty positions respin, and every new coin that lands locks in place and resets the counter to three. A respin that brings nothing uses up one of the remaining respins.
The round ends when the respins run out or all 15 positions are filled. At that point the held coin values are added together and paid. Coins don’t pay in the base game unless the feature triggers, so a coin on its own is dead weight until the sixth one arrives.
A coin carries one of ten values:
- 0.9x
- 1.8x
- 2.7x
- 4.5x
- 9x
- 18x
- 45x
- 90x
- 225x
- 900x
Collectors, Upgrades and Fixed Jackpot Coins
Three special symbols can appear during the respins. A Collector takes a snapshot of the coins currently held, banks that total into a separate pot, and leaves its position empty again. The coins stay on the grid, and the pot is paid once the round ends. Its timing matters: effects resolve in cell order, so a collector only sees the coin values present when it acts.
An Upgrade bumps every ordinary held coin one step up the value ladder. The top tier stays as it is, and fixed jackpot coins can’t be upgraded. Both collectors and upgrades vanish after acting and don’t reset the respin counter by themselves, so they buy you money, not time.
A fixed jackpot coin locks its tier value onto the grid outright. These are fixed multiples of the bet, not progressive prizes: MINI at 22.5x, MINOR at 67.5x, MAJOR at 180x and MEGA at 675x. One coin, one locked payout.
Fill the Vault and the Shared Jackpot
Hold the right number of coins at once and the vault pays extra. Each fill award is earned once per feature and they stack, added on top of the held coins and the collector pot:
- MINI (+22.5x) at 8 coins held
- MINOR (+67.5x) at 11 coins held
- MAJOR (+180x) at 13 coins held
- MEGA (+675x) at all 15 positions filled
Alongside the fixed tiers sits a shared progressive jackpot, shown in the base game’s footer as Mini, Major and Grand pools. These don’t scale with your bet. Each pool starts and resets at zero and can only award once it reaches its unlock amount, with the Grand pool’s preview balance sitting at 25,000 in its own display currency.
Preview spins don’t contribute to or win the cash jackpot, so the displayed figures are a live balance rather than a promise. The two systems are easy to blur together, and they shouldn’t be. Fixed coin awards scale with your stake; the shared pools are their own money, fed by everyone playing. Filling the vault is entirely in your round’s hands. The progressive isn’t.
Bonus Buy
If waiting for six coins isn’t your style, the Buy Feature button skips the queue. It costs 4.09x your selected total bet and enters Hold & Win directly, with the price confirmed before you commit. A bought round doesn’t award base-game relic wins, so everything rides on what the coins bring in.
Availability depends on the session: you’ll need a sufficient balance, no round in progress and no promotional free spins running. Buying the feature doesn’t guarantee a profit.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.1/10
Playing Golden Hoard is a long, quiet walk through a very pretty cavern to reach the one room that matters. The relics tick along in small multiples while you wait on the sixth coin, and when it lands the round takes over completely, stacking coins, vault awards and the collector pot into a single finish. That deep, filling round is the one reason to pick it.
Its strength is the collector. Because it only counts the coins held when it acts, the same symbol is worth scraps early and a fortune late, and nothing else in the design creates tension from one cell like that.
The weakness is the price of skipping the wait: 4.09x is a lot of stake for a round that forfeits relic wins, and the shared pools won’t scale to meet it. The right player here is the one who enjoys a slow build and a grid that fills; free-spins hunters have better caves to raid. This cavern rewards the patient, and it counts every coin.
