Good Luck Spell Slot Review
A grey-bearded sorcerer stands at the right edge of the reels, open spellbook in hand, glowing orbs on carved pillars and a starry nebula behind him. It’s a handsome scene, and Good Luck Spell uses it to hide something: this is a game that locks its biggest payouts in boxes the base game usually can’t open, and dares you to wait for the round that can. Evoplay has built the whole thing around that delay.
It’s a 6×5 grid where symbols pay anywhere on the reels, running at 95.99% RTP with high volatility. The studio’s catalogue holds plenty of company for it, including Piggy Bank: Coinstorm, Honey Royale and The Castle of Slotenstein. There’s a lot of sorcery here, and not all of it lands.
Symbols and Anywhere Pays
Good Luck Spell pays by symbol count, not by lines. You count the number of identical symbols anywhere on the reels after a spin, check the coefficient for that count, and multiply it by your bet. Only the highest win in each group is paid, and simultaneous wins in different groups are added together. It’s the scatter-pays setup, and it’s the whole engine here.
Nine regular symbols do the paying, all of them enchanted trinkets. The values below are multiples of your total bet:
- Red eye amulet: x50 for 12-30 symbols, x25 for 10-11, x10 for 8-9
- Purple gem amulet: x25 for 12-30, x10 for 10-11, x2.5 for 8-9
- Teal hourglass: x15 for 12-30, x5 for 10-11, x2 for 8-9
- Green ring: x12 for 12-30, x2 for 10-11, x1.5 for 8-9
- Blue and teal spoon amulet: x10 for 12-30, x1.5 for 10-11, x1 for 8-9
- Red gem drop: x8 for 12-30, x1.2 for 10-11, x0.8 for 8-9
- Pink triangle: x5 for 12-30, x1 for 10-11, x0.5 for 8-9
- Green pendant: x4 for 12-30, x0.9 for 10-11, x0.4 for 8-9
- Blue diamond: x2 for 12-30, x0.7 for 10-11, x0.3 for 8-9
There’s no wild symbol in this game. The wizard Bonus symbol is the only other symbol that pays, and it pays well: x3 for four, x5 for five and x100 for six. Bonus payouts are added to regular symbol wins rather than replacing them.
Magic Drops
Every winning combination of regular symbols explodes. All the empty positions are then replaced with new or existing symbols dropping from above, which can form new winning combinations, and the drops keep going until no more regular wins appear. All wins from a base spin are added to your balance once every drop has played out.
On its own this is a standard cascade. What makes it matter here is that each explosion is also fuel: exploding regular symbols are what fill the counters on the Magic Boxes, which is where the game’s real money hides.
The Magic Box
Magic Box symbols can land on any reel, in the main game and in free spins. Each one carries a hidden multiplier and a counter showing how many regular winning symbols must explode to open it. The counters on every Magic Box on the reels fill simultaneously after each explosion, and when a counter reaches zero the box opens and its multiplier activates. The sum of all opened multipliers is applied to the total win of that round.
There are four box types, and the multiplier you get depends on which one landed:
- Red Magic Box: x100, x250 or x500
- Purple Magic Box: x15, x20, x25 or x50
- Blue Magic Box: x6, x8, x10 or x12
- Green Magic Box: x2, x3, x4 or x5
Timing decides everything. A Magic Box only counts explosions that happen while it’s on the reels, and in the main game it must open within a single round, drops included. If the round ends with the counter unfilled, the multiplier stays hidden and the box disappears. Magic Box symbols never explode themselves, and boxes that land in rounds without any regular wins don’t stick around at all.
Free Spins
The wizard opens the door: catch him four or more times anywhere on the reels in the main game and the free spins round begins. He pays on the way in too, with the spin count set by how many you caught:
- 6 Bonus symbols: 24 free spins
- 5 Bonus symbols: 18 free spins
- 4 Bonus symbols: 12 free spins
Three or more Bonus symbols during the round award extra spins, on a bigger ladder than the trigger: six scatters add 24 spins, five add 18, four add 12 and three add 6. Free spins play at the same bet as the triggering spin.
The reason to want this round is the persistence. Magic Boxes with partially filled counters don’t vanish between free spins; they fall to the bottom row and keep their progress. That turns the whole feature into a slow build, where boxes opened late in the round can apply multipliers that were quietly charging for dozens of spins. It’s the best thing in the game.
Bonus Buy
If you’d rather skip the wait, the Bonus Buy lets you purchase free spins outright from the main game. The reels then spin up a combination of four, five or six Bonus symbols and the round starts immediately, played at the total bet of the purchase round. The buy isn’t available in every market.
- 24 free spins: 218x total bet
- 18 free spins: 88x total bet
- 12 free spins: 56x total bet
Each price is your total bet multiplied by a fixed coefficient and shown in money before you confirm. The buy button locks if your balance can’t cover it.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 6.5/10
Playing Good Luck Spell mostly means watching boxes fail. Rounds end with counters half filled and multipliers still hidden, and the sorcerer’s stage is doing more work than the reels. You’d choose it for one reason: in free spins, the boxes stop giving up between spins and start accumulating.
That persistence is the best thing here. A box charged over twenty spins and opened late pays like nothing else in the game can. The weakness is how little the main game gives you while it waits – it’s a scatter-pays grind with a tease riding on it, and twelve starting spins is a thin reward for the wait.
This one is for players who enjoy the long build and will sit through quiet spells for a big late payoff. If you want your bonuses fast and frequent, the wizard’s book has better chapters elsewhere.
