Gorilla on the Move Slot Review
A cartoon gorilla crouches on a city sidewalk at dusk, knuckles planted on the asphalt, grinning at the traffic. That’s Gorilla on the Move: a chase scene stretched across five reels, all orange street lamps, neon-edged skyscrapers and banana peels left where they fell. It shouldn’t feel this coherent, but it does.
The studio behind it is Backseat Gaming, a name that’s become familiar fast alongside releases like Banana Farm and Infernus. This one runs on a 5×4 grid with ten fixed lines, an RTP of 96.01%, very high volatility and a 10,000x maximum win. It keeps its entire personality on the screen at all times, and it’s all the better for it.
Ten Lines and the Wild Reels
A winning line needs at least three matching symbols on adjacent reels, counted from the left, across one of ten fixed lines. Ten lines on a 5×4 grid is a deliberately tight setup, and it shapes everything else the game does. The hit frequency sits at 16.61%, so the base game spends long stretches building rather than paying.
The wild is where it gets interesting. Wild reels land fully expanded carrying a 1x multiplier, and up to three of them can be on the grid at once in every game mode. In the base game they arrive with a randomly assigned multiplier of 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, 32x, 64x, 128x or 256x.
One detail worth knowing early: the paytable is dynamic, so the credit values shown adjust to your current bet. The multiples below don’t, and they’re all quoted against the total bet rather than the line bet.
Symbol Values
All values are multiples of the total bet.
- Police Car: 1x for three, 5x for four, 10x for five
- Money Truck: 0.75x for three, 3.75x for four, 7.5x for five
- Banana: 0.5x for three, 2.5x for four, 5x for five
- Road Barrier: 0.5x for three, 2.5x for four, 5x for five
- Royals (10, J, Q, K, A): 0.1x for three, 0.5x for four, 1x for five
The top of the paytable is modest, then. Ten times the bet for a five-symbol Police Car line isn’t a figure anyone chases on its own, which points you straight at the wild reels and the bonus games as the real engine of the game’s 10,000x ceiling.
The Three Bonus Games
Bonus symbols can land on any reel in most game modes, though only one per reel, and they’re pure triggers rather than payers. Land three, four or five of them and you’re into one of three bonus games, each awarding ten free spins.
Inside the bonus games the wild reels change character. They become sticky, moving to a different reel with every spin, and every time a wild reel participates in a winning combination its multiplier doubles, all the way to 256x.
The multiplier doesn’t reset at the end of a spin, and it only climbs once per spin no matter how many winlines it touches. If several wild reels join the same winline, their multipliers are added together and the sum is applied to the payout.
Banana Swing
Three Bonus symbols trigger the Banana Swing game with ten free spins. The wild reels start at a 1x multiplier and move to a new reel after each spin. It’s the entry-level round, and everything depends on how quickly those multipliers climb.
Gorilla Rush
Four Bonus symbols trigger Gorilla Rush, also ten free spins with wild reels starting at 1x. The difference is you begin with one guaranteed wild reel on the grid, which gives the doubling mechanic a head start from the very first spin.
On The Move
Five Bonus symbols trigger the round the game is named after. The wild reels start at an 8x multiplier instead of 1x, with the same guaranteed wild reel and the same reel-to-reel movement. This is the round where the summed-multiplier rule gets expensive: three sticky wilds that have all been doubling can turn one line into something serious.
Retriggers are simple and constant. Every Bonus symbol that lands during a bonus game adds one additional free spin, and since wild reels never reset, a long round is where the game’s potential actually lives.
Feature Buys and Boost Modes
Buying is done through the cart button, and wins from any purchase evaluate at the base bet amount. Whether the options are offered at all depends on the operator and jurisdiction. Every buy and mode below runs at the same 96.01% RTP as the base game, which is a refreshingly straight arrangement.
- Bonus Boost Mode: 2x the bet
- Scatter Spins Mode: 50x the bet
- Max Impact Spins Mode: 250x the bet
- Banana Swing instant trigger: 100x the bet
- Gorilla Rush instant trigger: 250x the bet
- On The Move instant trigger: 500x the bet
- Mystery Bonus (3, 4 or 5 Bonus symbols land and trigger the matching game): 185x the bet
One quirk worth knowing: Bonus symbols can’t land during Max Impact Spins, so that 250x mode is a base-game play rather than a bonus shortcut. The Mystery Bonus at 185x sits between the Gorilla Rush and On The Move prices and could hand you either, or the cheaper Banana Swing.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.8/10
The wild reels carry the whole experience. In the base game they’re a random jolt of up to 256x; in the bonus rounds they become a slow, visible build, shuffling reel to reel and doubling every time they connect. With multipliers summing across up to three sticky wilds, the 10,000x ceiling is a real one rather than a number on a spec sheet, and that build is the reason to pick this up at all.
The weakness is everything around it. Ten lines and a paytable that tops out at 10x for five Police Cars leaves the base game thin between bonuses, and very high volatility with a 16.61% hit frequency doesn’t soften that. The tiered bonus structure helps, because Gorilla Rush and On The Move give the mechanic a running start, but the gap between a three-scatter trigger and the round worth having is wide.
It suits players who enjoy watching a mechanic compound and don’t mind waiting for it, and the city-dusk artwork is good company in the meantime. Anyone chasing frequent small wins will find ten lines very quiet. For everyone else, the gorilla earns his street corner.
