Jungle Books Slot Review
Vines swallow the stonework of a ruined temple clearing, a bright-eyed monkey peeks out from behind two hanging wooden drums, and the gold frame around the reels is carved like a stepped temple doorway. This is Yggdrasil‘s Jungle Books, and it’s a more ambitious piece of engineering than the fairy-tale artwork suggests. The reel set, payline behaviour and feature load all change depending on which of five characters is hosting.
It runs at 96.1% RTP with low volatility, a 23% hit frequency, 58 paylines across five reels of variable height and a 12,500x maximum win, with stakes from 0.10 to 100 per spin. Players who know Multifly or Valley of the Gods 2 will recognise the appetite for systems, and Hades Gigablox covers similar ground. Few slots attempt this many moving parts at once.
Base Game & Features
The game plays across five reels of differing heights, and the 58 paylines pay from the left. Adjacent reels of the same height can sync and show identical results, which is the base game’s most distinctive quirk. There’s no scatter symbol anywhere in the game. Instead, the action comes entirely from the realm features and the characters who carry them.
Ten regular symbols line the paytable. Five are fruits, one is a Super High Pay trio of pears, and four are card suits. The values below are per symbol combination:
- Super High Pay (pear/gourd): 50 / 100 / 300 for three, four and five
- Blue creature: 25 / 50 / 100
- Purple fig: 20 / 40 / 80
- Green durian: 15 / 30 / 60
- Pink raspberry: 12 / 25 / 50
- Orange fruit: 9 / 20 / 40
- Hearts: 3, 10 and 25
- Spades: 3, 10 and 25
- Clubs: 3, 10 and 25
- Diamonds: 3, 10 and 25
The wild substitutes for all regular symbols. Beyond the wild, two symbols do special work. The Honeycomb lands on the tallest reels and awards coin prizes, and the tablet reveals one random symbol to be stacked across all reels on every spin, wilds and Honeycombs included.
Only the highest winning combination per line is paid. Where a winning combination starts with three wilds, only the best interpretation of the win counts, so stacked wilds never pay twice for the same line.
Reels of uneven height mean the synced reels rule matters more than it sounds. Two tall neighbouring reels showing identical results changes what a stacked symbol round can produce, and the stacking tablet interacts with it every single spin.
Jungle Books Bonus Features
The heart of the game is its cast. Five characters each host their own realm, and each realm carries that host’s two special features. Hosts stand to the left of the reels; guests arrive from the right, and a guest brings only one of their two features for the whole visit.
Guests stay at least three spins, and raising the bet size forces any guest to leave, which is a real cost to chasing. Combining a host’s features with a guest’s is how the biggest wins are built, and there are 45 possible combinations in total. The five realms break down like this:
- The Boy: Synced Reels and Spreading Wilds
- The Tiger: Sticky Respins and Stacked Wilds
- The Panther: Wild Fruit and Win Multiplier
- The Bear: Stacked Symbols and the Honeycomb
- The Snake: X3 Wild Multiplier and Win Both Ways
The Boy
The Boy’s realm runs Synced Reels and Spreading Wilds. In the Boy’s, the Tiger’s and the Bear’s realms, reels one and two are synced and reels four and five are synced separately. In the Panther’s realm it’s reels one and five; in the Snake’s, reels two through four. Reels synced together always give the same result.
Spreading Wilds means every wild that lands, including wilds created by other features, generates one or two extra wilds in random positions. It’s the feature most likely to overlap with somebody else’s, and the overlaps are where the game pays best.
The Tiger
The Tiger brings Sticky Respins and Stacked Wilds. Any winning spin awards one respin with all winning symbols and wilds held sticky, so a decent line can grow rather than reset.
Stacked wilds are added to the tallest reels, which is where the uneven reel heights start paying dividends. A tall reel carrying a full stack changes the arithmetic of a single spin considerably.
The Panther
The Panther’s realm turns the paytable on its head. Wild Fruit makes every Super High Pay symbol act as a wild, which effectively multiplies the wild count on any spin where the top symbol lands in numbers.
The Win Multiplier applies a x2, x3 or x5 multiplier to random wins, and it’s added to the entire spin, including any Honeycomb symbols that landed. A single multiplier can therefore lift several things at once.
The Bear
The Bear carries Stacked Symbols and the Honeycomb. One random symbol is stacked on all reels each spin, and any symbol can be chosen, including the wild and the Honeycomb itself. This is also where Honeycomb symbols get dropped onto the tallest reels.
Landing one or more Honeycombs opens a pick-and-click minigame with one hidden coin reward per symbol landed. The prizes on offer climb from 50 coins all the way to 50,000 coins, so a multi-Honeycomb spin in the right company can get expensive fast for the house.
The Snake
The Snake rounds things off with the X3 Wild Multiplier and Win Both Ways. Any win containing at least one wild in the payline gets a x3 multiplier, and all 58 lines pay from both the left and the right, with five-of-a-kind wins paying from both sides.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.9/10
Playing this is less like spinning a slot and more like wandering between camps in Kipling’s jungle, never quite knowing which pair of features the canopy will hand you next. That unpredictability is the reason to choose it: the game you’re in after a realm change isn’t quite the game you were in before.
Its strength is that the features genuinely talk to each other rather than sitting in separate boxes. Wilds from one character feed another’s respins, multipliers land on top of Honeycomb coins, and the 45 combinations mean the best moments are engineered collisions, not lucky accidents.
The weakness is the paytable underneath all of it: low volatility and modest line values mean the cleverness mostly pays out in small, steady amounts rather than the big hit the system seems built towards. Raising your stake mid-visit also ejects a guest, which makes the betting fussy.
This is one for players who enjoy watching systems interact and are happy with a session that pays often and modestly. Anyone after a single brutal bonus chase will be left looking through the vines for a round that isn’t there. For everyone else, this jungle is well worth getting lost in.
