Kamo Insect Hunter Slot Review
A chameleon in a floppy safari hat leans on his walking stick beside a hut on stilts, moonlit vines strung across the reel board, stars fading into the treeline behind him. Kamo Insect Hunter uses that soft picture book front to hide the sharpest maths Backseat Gaming have put their name to: one wild reel type and one multiplier ladder do all the work, and the three bonus rounds differ only in whether that ladder resets. It runs on a 5×5 grid with 15 fixed paylines, a 96.01% RTP and a 10,000x maximum win.
The studio’s recent run includes Banana Farm, Beaver Bonk and Blade Master, and this one pushes its win mechanics harder than any of them while looking like the least likely candidate to. Bugs, beware.
Base Game & Features
Wins need at least three matching symbols on adjacent reels from the leftmost side, across 15 predefined lines. The hand-drawn cartoon style, thick outlines and cool moonlit palette carry through every screen, with jungle vines strung across the wooden reel board and broad leaves curling over its corners.
The symbols split into the hunter’s kit and the card royals. Guns, handheld devices, nets, spray bottles and lanterns fill the premium end, while 10, J, Q, K and A make up the low pays. The paytable is dynamic and shifts with the stake, but the values below hold as multiples of the total bet:
- Gun – 2x for three, 10x for four, 20x for five
- Kamo character – 20x for five
- Handheld device / Net – 1x for three, 5x for four, 10x for five
- Spray bottle / Lantern – 0.5x for three, 2.5x for four, 5x for five
- 10, J, Q, K, A – 0.1x for three, 0.5x for four, 1x for five
Several tiers share their values across two symbols, so the handheld device and the Net pay identically, as do the spray bottle and lantern. The Gun sits alongside the Kamo character and the Wild at the top of the table for a five-of-a-kind.
The standard wild substitutes for all paying symbols and pays 20x the bet for five of a kind, matching the Gun at the top of the table. It appears in every game mode, and it’s a separate symbol from the paying lantern entirely.
Speed options run Normal, Fast and Turbo for players who like their spins brisk. The reel board itself sits unchanged across all three settings; only the animation pace moves.
Kamo Wild Reel
The Kamo Wild Reel symbol is this game’s engine of interest. It lands in all game modes, expands into a full wild reel covering its column, and then reveals between one and six Nets. Each Net advances the global multiplier by one level.
Only one Kamo Wild Reel can land per reel, which caps the chaos at five expanded columns on any given spin. A spin therefore plays out in two beats: the wild reels land and open, and the Nets they reveal set the multiplier before line wins are paid.
Worth keeping straight: the Net that pays as a symbol on the reels is one thing, and the Nets a Kamo Wild Reel reveals are another. The first is a line-win symbol worth up to 10x for five; the second exist purely to push the multiplier ladder and never form winning combinations themselves.
Global Multiplier
A multiplier meter sits above the grid, starting each base game spin at 1x. Every Net revealed by a Kamo Wild Reel bumps it one level up the ladder, and the current value applies to all line wins on that spin. In the base game it resets to 1x after each spin, so the ladder only ever climbs as high as a single spin’s Nets can take it.
The ladder itself is unevenly spaced, which matters more than it first appears:
- 1x through 10x in single steps
- 12x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 30x, 35x, 40x, 45x, 50x in the middle band
- 75x, 100x, 125x, 150x and 200x at the top
Reaching the upper band in a base game spin needs an exceptional cluster of Nets. Six is the maximum a single Kamo Wild Reel can reveal, and five reels can each carry one, so the top of the meter is only reachable when everything lands at once.
Bonus symbols can only land in the base game and certain feature modes, with a maximum of one per reel. That means triggering the top bonus requires all five reels to cooperate on a single spin.
Kamo Insect Hunter Free Spins & Bonus Games
Three bonus tiers hang off the same symbol, split by how many Bonus symbols land. All of them revolve around the same global multiplier ladder, with one crucial difference in how it’s handled once you’re inside:
- 3 Bonus symbols – Net Catch, 10 free spins, multiplier resets each spin
- 4 Bonus symbols – Bug Hunt, 10 free spins, multiplier persists throughout
- 5 Bonus symbols – Kamo Frenzy, the top tier
Net Catch
Three Bonus symbols trigger Net Catch, awarding 10 free spins. Here the global multiplier still resets after each spin, exactly as it does in the base game, so the round plays as a string of self-contained climbs rather than one sustained build.
Bug Hunt
Four Bonus symbols trigger Bug Hunt, also with 10 free spins, and this is where the structure changes. The global multiplier is persistent for the entire duration of the bonus, never resetting between spins, so every Net revealed anywhere in the round keeps lifting the ladder for the spins that follow. It’s the mode the whole game is built around.
Kamo Frenzy
Five Bonus symbols trigger Kamo Frenzy, the top tier of the trio. Landing all five on a single spin is a tall order given the one-per-reel limit, and the game treats it as the round everything else was preparing you for.
The gap between the reset and persistent modes is the whole difference between a modest round and something that can climb towards the game’s ceiling.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.2/10
Most of your time here is spent watching a meter that barely moves, waiting for the round where it doesn’t stop moving. That’s the whole appeal, and the chameleon on the frame knows it: he’s not the entertainment, he’s the patience test. The charm is real, but you come for Bug Hunt and nothing else.
When that round arrives, it’s superb. A multiplier that never resets across 10 spins turns every Net into a promise kept, and a late run of wild reels can dwarf everything that came before it. The base game, by contrast, gives you almost nothing: the meter climbs a level or two, wipes itself, and the royals pay crumbs. That reset is the design, not an accident, and it means whole sessions can pass without a spin that matters.
So it suits a particular sort of player: one happy to grind a quiet jungle for a single big night by the fire. If you want the reels themselves to entertain you spin to spin, this camp isn’t where you’ll find it. For the patient hunter, though, the bugs are worth the wait.
