Kupala Slot Review
Twilight in a pine forest, glowing specks drifting through a purple-and-amber sky, and a woman in a cross-stitched blouse with a daisy tucked in her hair: Spinomenal‘s Kupala takes its name and its mood from the Slavic midsummer festival, when ferns are said to bloom for one night only. The painting is genuinely lovely. The game underneath it is the sparsest thing the studio has attached to artwork this good.
Kupala runs on a 5×4 grid with 10 selectable paylines, and an RTP of 95.6%. That’s the whole story: a wild, a scatter, and a paytable. There’s no free spins round here, no bonus buy, no jackpot ladder, and the sequel, Kupala 2, is the place to look if you want the theme with more machinery attached. Sister titles such as Story of Jarptitsa and Baba Yaga Tales cover similar folk ground.
Symbols and Paytable
All symbols pay from left to right, starting on the leftmost reel, and only the highest win on each line is paid. Wins are multiplied by the bet per line, so the values below sit on top of your line stake rather than your total bet.
- Flower (blue): 60 / 300 / 1,000 for three, four, five
- Candle with flowers: 50 / 200 / 600
- Campfire and A: 20 / 50 / 100
- K and O (yin-yang): 10 / 25 / 80
- J and 10: 5 / 15 / 50
It’s a flat paytable by modern standards. The top symbol needs five across a line to reach 1,000x the line bet, and everything below it drops away quickly, with the royals paying trinkets. Two of the premium symbols are a little unusual: the O is rendered as a yin-yang, and the campfire sits alongside the A at the same value, so the picture symbols and the letter symbols share rows rather than splitting into clean tiers.
The spacing between tiers tells its own story. Going from three to five of the blue flower multiplies the prize roughly seventeen times over, while the same jump on the J or the 10 is worth ten times. In other words, the premium symbols are where the money concentrates, and a full line of campfires or A symbols, at 100x the line bet, is already a decent result on a game shaped like this one.
The candle with flowers, at 600 for five, is the second-richest picture on the reels, and the gap between it and the blue flower above it is smaller than the gaps further down. That gives the top of the table a gentler slope than the bottom, where the J, 10, K and yin-yang O cluster tightly between 50 and 80 for a full line. Small wins are the currency of this game.
Wild and Scatter
The wild is the girl from the artwork, and she substitutes for every symbol except the scatter. She’s also the joint-richest symbol on the reels: five of her on a line pays 1,000, matching the blue flower at the top of the table. The same five-of-a-kind from either symbol, on a full line stake, is the biggest prize the reels offer.
The scatter pays anywhere on the reels, regardless of paylines. Its values run on a different ladder to the line symbols:
- Three scatters: 2
- Four scatters: 25
- Five scatters: 250
The scatter ladder steps steeply, from a token 2 at three to 250 at five.
That’s the whole of the special-symbol work this game does. There’s no feature trigger hiding behind the scatter; it’s a straight payer, and the free games live in the sequel rather than here.
Lines, Autoplay and Turbo Mode
The one mechanic here that isn’t standard is the selectable lines. The default setting is ten, but the amount of active lines ranges between 10 and 100, and the left-hand buttons on the control panel adjust it while the right-hand buttons set the bet. Fewer lines means a smaller total stake; it also means more dead reels on every spin.
Running more lines does the opposite, of course: full coverage of the five-by-four grid, at the cost of a stake that climbs with every line you switch on. Because only the highest win per line is paid, extra lines mostly buy extra chances at the same modest prizes rather than bigger ones.
Spins go by button or space bar, and all wins in a round show in the WIN field. During a spin the help and settings buttons are disabled, so any adjustment to bet or lines has to wait for the round to finish. There’s a friendly “Good luck!” banner sitting above the reels throughout, which suits the festival mood better than it would suit a horror title.
Autoplay opens a configuration screen where you choose the number of spins to run continuously at the selected bet, and it stops on the pause button. Turbo Mode, toggled by the rabbit button at the bottom left on desktop or through the settings menu on mobile, shortens each round to the minimum possible, and it can also be switched on from the autoplay screen. The full set of controls:
- Spin by button or space bar
- Bet amount on the right-hand buttons
- Lines amount, 10 to 100, on the left-hand buttons
- Autoplay with a configurable spin count, stopped by pause
- Turbo Mode via the rabbit button, the settings menu, or the autoplay screen
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 6/10
Kupala is a beautiful frame around a deliberately small picture. The reason to sit down at it is the artwork itself: the twilight forest, the lily pond, the girl with the daisy in her hair, all painted with more care than a ten-line game strictly needs. Spinning it is a quiet, unhurried business, closer to a folk ballad than a fireworks display.
The strength is that nothing here hides from you. Line bets pay on line stakes, the wild doubles as the top payer, and the 10-to-100 line range puts stake and coverage entirely in your hands. The weakness is that the reels run out of things to say early: no bonus round, nothing behind the scatter but cash, and a long stretch between premium hits at the top of a flat table.
It’s for players who like their slots slow, plain and pretty, and who’d rather watch the ferns bloom than chase them. Anyone who wants features, multipliers or a proper round of free spins will find those in Kupala 2. On a midsummer evening, this one still glows quietly in its own corner of the forest.
