Lara Croft: Tomb of the Sun Slot Review
A stepped pyramid sits half-swallowed by rainforest, a waterfall spilling past the reel frame while two gilded serpent heads glare down from the carved beam above. Lara Croft: Tomb of the Sun uses that ruin as a front for something colder than an adventure: this is a collection game wearing a treasure-hunt skin. Every Wild you land feeds five prize pots that grow between hits, and the slot is built so that nothing else pays well enough to distract you from them.
It runs on a 5×4 grid with 1024 ways to win, a 96.36% RTP and high volatility, with bets from 0.20 to 100 per spin. Triple Edge Studios built it, and they’ve form here – Rising Rewards introduced the escalating jackpot system this game borrows, while 2025’s Lara Croft: Fortune of the Eclipse never quite matched its source material.
Base Game & Features
Wins pay left to right across adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost one, and with 1024 ways in play that means any matching symbol on the first three reels is already in the money. If multiple winning combinations land on a single way, only the highest one counts. It’s a familiar structure, and the game doesn’t dress it up.
The payout maths works on a bet multiplier set at the total bet divided by ten. Ways wins are multiplied by that figure, and the total payout is the sum of all way wins plus any Scatter wins from the spin. Only the highest winning combination is awarded per symbol combination, so stacked premium symbols don’t double-dip.
Rolling Reels
After any ways win, the winning symbols are removed and new ones drop in to take their place, which can chain several wins from a single spin. Scatters that land stay on the reels for the whole sequence. Each winning roll also steps up a Multiplier Trail, which resets once the rolls finish.
Multiplier Trail
The trail is where consecutive wins start to matter. It runs higher in Free Spins than in the base game:
- Base game: 1x, rising to 2x, 3x and 5x with each winning roll
- Free Spins: 3x, rising to 6x, 9x and 15x with each winning roll
- Both trails reset to their starting value when the rolls complete
The multiplier is applied to ways pays as each win is revealed, not at the end of the sequence, so every roll in a chain is worth more than the one before it. That’s the whole engine of the base game: keep the chain alive and let the trail do the arithmetic.
Power Wilds
Wilds appear on reels two, three and four and substitute for everything except the Free Spins Scatter, with no payout of their own. The twist is that they come in grades. Triple and Double Wilds can only land on the initial drop, but they persist through Rolling Reels.
A Triple becomes a Double after contributing to a win, a Double becomes a Single, and a Single is used up. Single Wilds can arrive on any roll, so a long chain keeps feeding fresh substitutes into the middle reels.
Collecting Wilds does more than build wins. Every one that lands also grants a chance of triggering the Rising Reward Jackpot Feature, which is covered below. The two systems feed each other: a good Rolling Reels run is also a good collection run.
Lara Croft: Tomb of the Sun Free Spins & Jackpots
Free Spins
Scatters can form their own winning combination anywhere on the reels, and they aren’t removed by Rolling Reels – they pay out once the sequence finishes. Landing 3, 4 or 5 of them starts the bonus round:
- 3 Scatters: 8 Free Spins
- 4 Scatters: 10 Free Spins
- 5 Scatters: 15 Free Spins
Bets and ways carry over from the triggering spin, and the round plays out automatically. It can be retriggered. The multiplier floor is the reason to want it: every spin starts at 3x, so a chain that pays modestly in the base game pays several times more here.
Scatters landing mid-sequence sit tight until the rolls are done, which makes 4 and 5 Scatter triggers genuinely reachable during a run. Any win the feature awards is added to base game wins on the same spin.
Rising Reward Jackpot Feature
Collecting Wilds grants a chance of triggering this, in the base game and in Free Spins alike. When it hits, a puzzle divided into coloured segments spins, and whichever segment lands awards its associated jackpot – one of five, guaranteed. It can’t miss.
The rising part is the design’s clever bit. For each Wild that lands on the reels, one, two or three of the jackpot values increase by between 0.1x and 1x the bet, and the probability of the feature triggering shifts as those values move. Once a jackpot pays out, it resets to its starting value.
Quoted as multiples of the stake, the five tiers stand at:
- Grand: 2,000x the bet
- Mega: 500x the bet
- Major: 100x the bet
- Minor: 15x the bet
- Mini: 10x the bet
Jackpot values scale with bet changes and wins are multiplied by the total bet, so the ladder means the same thing at every stake. The collection pot drawn on screen is visual only – it doesn’t influence whether the feature fires. The odds and the pot sizes do the deciding.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.2/10
Playing Tomb of the Sun feels like digging on the same site for hours, because that’s literally the activity: you collect Wilds, watch the pots tick up by fractions, and wait for the feature to finally cave in. It’s a patient grind, and the one reason to choose it over plusher Lara outings is that the digging visibly pays – every Wild nudges real money up the ladder, and the feature can’t fire without handing you something.
The best thing here is that the chase is honest about its own odds. Because the trigger probability moves as the jackpots swell, you’re not throwing coins into a fixed pool and hoping – the game gets more likely to pay precisely when there’s more in it. That’s a smarter loop than most progressive chases manage.
The weakness is the ceiling. A 2,000x Grand is modest for a high-volatility slot, and the base game alone won’t carry anyone there. This one suits collectors – players who like watching a prize grow and are content with a ladder that tops out early. If you want a Lara Croft slot for the big expedition win, this temple holds its riches closer than that.
