Medusa VS Perseus: Stone Duel Slot Review
A marble temple stands over a blue lagoon, gilded columns flanking the reels and two carved figures facing off across the pediment above them. In Iconic21‘s Medusa Vs Perseus, that carved standoff isn’t decoration; it’s a fair description of the engineering. Nearly everything the game does runs through one symbol, the duel between its two title characters, and both bonus rounds are that same duel with a single rule changed. A slot this single-minded either wins you over by the second Duel symbol or leaves you wondering where the rest of the game went.
The duel is what carries the game. Medusa Vs Perseus runs on a 5×5 grid with 15 fixed paylines paying left to right, and returns 95.97% in its base configuration. The two title characters even meet on a single symbol, and how that resolves is the whole engine of the thing.
Base Game & Features
Wins are evaluated left to right across the 15 fixed lines, and only the longest, highest combination on each line pays. Wins from separate lines aggregate, so a full screen of matching symbols can pay fifteen times over. Tumbling reels clear winning symbols away and let new ones drop in, so a single spin can chain several wins before it settles.
The paytable splits into mythic symbols and royals. Values are multiples of the line stake:
- Pegasus, Snake – 1.5x for three, 3x for four, 10x for five
- Helmet, Harp – 1x for three, 2x for four, 5x for five
- A – 0.4x for three, 0.8x for four, 4x for five
- K, Q – 0.3x for three, 0.6x for four, 3x for five
- J, 10 – 0.2x for three, 0.4x for four, 2x for five
The royals are a flat tail, which keeps the tumble chains spinning without moving the balance much. Pegasus and the Snake are the symbols worth watching, and the royals’ only real job is to fill the gaps between duels.
The Duel Symbol
The Duel symbol is the game’s centrepiece, and it doubles as the wild. When it lands, it transforms into an Expanding Wild that reveals both Medusa and Perseus, each carrying its own multiplier. The two then fight it out, and only the winner stays on the reel.
The winner’s multiplier is applied to the line win, and where more than one is in play the multipliers are added together first. The available values:
- Low band – 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 9x, 10x
- High band – 20x, 25x, 50x, 100x
The ladder has a gap in the middle of it, so a duel either lands on the modest side or jumps straight past it. That makes the reveal the moment of the spin: there’s no gentle middle outcome to settle for.
As a wild, the winner substitutes for any paying symbol, so a surviving Expanding Wild both completes lines and inflates them. On a 5×5 grid with fifteen lines crossing it, an expanded wild in the right column can touch several lines at once.
Medusa Vs Perseus Bonus Games
Two separate bonus games hide inside this one slot, and both are triggered the same way: three Bonus symbols on reels one, three and five in the base game. Which round you get depends on whose symbols landed:
- 3 Perseus Bonus symbols – opens the Perseus Bonus Game, multiplier collection
- 3 Medusa Bonus symbols – opens the Medusa Bonus Game, sticky wilds
Perseus Bonus Game
Three Perseus Bonus symbols open the Perseus round. Here the multipliers from every Expanding Wild are collected into a global multiplier, and that running total is applied to all wins for the rest of the round.
Each wild that lands adds its multiplier to the pot, so the value climbs as the round goes on. A run of duels late in the game is worth far more than the same run at the start, and the round’s payout is weighted accordingly.
Medusa Bonus Game
Three Medusa Bonus symbols open the Medusa round, and it takes the opposite approach. Every Expanding Wild that appears sticks to the reels and stays in place until the round ends.
Where Perseus banks the multipliers, Medusa keeps the wilds themselves. Each sticky wild still carries its own multiplier when it wins a duel, and the collection grows with every one that lands. A reel filling up with them does the collecting for you, and the win quality in the later spins is where this round lives or dies.
Neither round is a free-spins game in the usual sense; both are the base game with one rule changed. The maximum win is 10,000x the bet.
Bonus Buy
A Buy Bonus button sits on the left side of the screen, so you can skip the base game entirely and go straight into a bonus round. It’s a shortcut for players who’d rather not wait on reels one, three and five lining up.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 7.2/10
Most of the time this is a plain 15-liner doing quiet work between duels, and you’d choose it for one reason only: it’s the rare myth slot where the story on the artwork and the mechanic in the reels are the same thing. Every time the carved pair above the grid meet on a symbol, you’re watching the theme actually happen.
The strength is that the two bonus rounds genuinely differ. Banking the multipliers and keeping the wilds pull the same symbol in opposite directions, so which round you land in changes how you play it, not just how it pays. The weakness is everything else. The base game is thin, the royals are wallpaper, and if the duel doesn’t grab you, there’s nothing behind it.
It’s for players who like one idea done properly and Greek myth done in daylight rather than gloom, and it isn’t for anyone after a feature catalogue. The temple’s still standing, the view’s still good, and the duel is worth the trip.
