Monster King of Cheese Slot Review
A grinning grey rat in a tiny gold crown slumps against a wedge of Swiss cheese, gold coins rolling in from the right, and the whole warm amber cellar belongs to him. Monster King of Cheese is the slot equivalent: a game that hoards one idea and refuses to dress it up. Black Lagoon Games have stripped this down to five paylines and two features, and the Monster Mega Hit scatter prize on the middle reels does most of the talking.
It’s a 5×3 grid running at 96.00% RTP, and there’s barely a rule in it that needs a second read. That spareness is the argument. On a game this thin, the fixed prize isn’t decoration – it’s the only thing separating the larder from an empty shelf.
Base Game & Features
Five paylines across a 5×3 grid, and that’s the whole engine. Wins land left to right on active lines, and only the highest combination per line counts. There’s no wild symbol in the paytable and no cascades or modifiers to keep track of. What you see is what pays.
Five lines means five specific routes across the reels, and the diagram makes each one plain. The lines run horizontally and in gentle diagonals, and every one of them starts on the leftmost reel. A symbol combination that doesn’t sit on one of those five routes isn’t a win, however neat it looks on screen.
Symbols and Pays
The paytable is short enough to read in full, and it’s worth reading, because the gaps between the tiers tell you more about this game than any single number does. Values are multiples of the total bet.
- Black Panther – 10x for three, 20x for four, 40x for five
- Coin Sack – 4x for three, 10x for four, 20x for five
- Berries/Nuts Mix – 4x for three, 10x for four, 20x for five
- Carrots – 2x for three, 4x for four, 8x for five
- Green Apples – 2x for three, 4x for four, 8x for five
- Walnut – 2x for three, 4x for four, 8x for five
- Mouse – 1x for three, 2x for four, 4x for five
Two things stand out. The Panther sits alone at the top, paying two and a half times what the second tier offers for a five-of-a-kind. Everything below the Coin Sack tier pays in single or low double digits. A five-Panther line returns 40x – respectable, not spectacular.
The Mouse is the floor of the ladder at 1x for three, which at least means it always covers something. The middle tier is crowded: Carrots, Green Apples and Walnut all pay identically, so three of the seven symbols are effectively the same card in different artwork.
That flattening has a practical effect on the reels. The identical middle tier produces a lot of combinations that look like wins and pay like tips. Checking the list before you play saves the disappointment of doing the arithmetic afterwards.
The Coin Feature
Coin symbols carry their own cash values and land on the reels as overlays, replacing or covering grid positions. When three or more of them align on any active payline, each participating coin pays out its printed value. Coins that aren’t part of the line pay nothing.
That’s the whole rule, and it’s a tidy one. The values seen on the reels range from a fraction of the stake to several hundred times it. A full five-coin line of the biggest values would comfortably outrun anything the symbol ladder can offer.
- Coin values observed landing: 1.4x, 3.2x, 3.4x, 4x, 4.2x, 4.6x, 15x, 36.8x, 44.6x, 46x, 135x, 421.8x and 808.4x the bet
- Trigger: three or more coins aligned on any active payline
- Payout: the printed value of every coin on the winning line, and nothing else
Even a modest line beats the lower symbols. Three coins at 4.2x apiece is 12.6x, which clears a three-Panther win. The feature doesn’t spin anything up or unlock a second screen; it just makes certain positions worth literal money, and the rest of the game orbits that idea.
Monster King of Cheese Bonus Features
The Monster Mega Hit
The second feature is a fixed scatter prize rather than a bonus round. Monster Mega Hit symbols can appear on reels 2, 3 and 4, and landing all three awards the prize shown on the meter above the reels. No spins, no picker, no ladder – just the money.
Because the symbols are confined to three reels, the trigger needs all of them and nothing else. Two scatters on reels 3 and 4 is a near miss with no partial payment. The scatter doesn’t need to sit on a payline, which on a five-line game is the point: it’s the one way to win here that the paylines diagram doesn’t explain.
What There Isn’t
The full inventory of extras in this game is two entries long. What that leaves out is a longer list than what it includes:
- No free spins round of any kind
- No wild symbol anywhere in the game
- No multiplier mechanic
- No retrigger, on either feature
- No bonus buy
- No pick-me game or second screen
The Coin Feature and the Monster Mega Hit are the entire feature list, and both pay out on the spin that triggers them. Neither can be extended, replayed or built on. What hits, pays.
The two features never interact, either. The Coin Feature pays its line, the scatters pay their meter prize, and neither feeds the other. The scatter prize is a stated prize, not a maximum win figure.
Our Honest Verdict
Overall Rating: 6.3/10
Playing this is like sitting in the rat’s cellar: warm, well drawn, and finished with everything you’re getting within your first ten spins. The one reason to choose it is legibility – every rule fits in a sentence, and nothing about it will surprise you halfway through a session. In a market of slots that stack three mechanics on top of each other, that plainness is almost a personality.
The Coin Feature is the best thing here, because it pays real money you can watch landing, and the big coins genuinely outrun the symbol ladder. The worst thing is everything between it and the scatter: the paytable below the Panther is crumbs, and there’s nothing else in the game – no wild, no free spins, no round to build towards.
It’s for players who want to understand their slot completely before the first spin, and it isn’t for players who measure a game by how much there is to unlock. The larder’s a pleasant place to visit. There just isn’t much in it beyond the cheese.
