Musketeer Megaways Slot Review 2024
All for one and one for all! iSoftBet are back with another interesting instalment for their Twisted Tale series, with Musketeer Megaways!
Based on the French historical Novel written in 1844, The Three Musketeers features brave and chivalrous swordsmen who fight for Justice. In the book, a young man named d’Artagnan leaves his home town and travels to Paris, where he seeks out Athos, Porthos and Aramis ‘The Three Musketeers’ in hopes to join them. Over time, the story of The Three Musketeers has been recreated in many books and even made its way to our screens in more ways than one.
The latest edition to the Twisted Tale series, Musketeer Megaways comes complete with two exciting game modes and a refreshing Free Spins round. With Christmas well and truly forgotten about, Scrooge Megaways is definitely the Ghost of Christmas Past. iSoftBet has chosen a much brighter theme this time around, rather than the doom and gloom of vampires in Brides of Dracula Hold & Win.
The Three Musketeers aren’t quite the baddies we are used to seeing in a Twisted Tale title, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a Villain lurking in the shadows. Just like Alexandre Dumas’s 1844 Novel, Cardinal Richelieu is a prime character symbol in Musketeer Megaways, and also the lead Villian in both tales.
Let’s check out iSoftBet’s latest villainous story to see how it compares to others in the series.
Musketeer Megaways Base Game and Features
Musketeer Megaways is a 6 reel slot with up to 117,649 ways to win. In order to form a winning combination, you will need to connect 3 or more (or 2 or more of the highest paying symbol) from left to right, starting from the left-most reel. The minimum bet available here is £/€0.20 per spin and the maximum bet available is £/€20 per spin, with a handful of bets in between the two.
Like many Megaways titles, Musketeer Megaways features Cascading Reels. Each time a winning combination is formed, all winning symbols will be removed from the reels and new symbols will fall down via a Cascade, filling all empty spaces and possibly creating even more winning combinations.
In terms of symbols, the highest paying regular symbol in Musketeer Megaways is Richelieu, followed by the Hat, Money Bag and Scroll. Low paying symbols are standard Ace, King, Queen, Jack, Ten and Nine. There is also a Wild symbol present, which substitutes for all symbols except Scatters and Mystery symbols. Wild symbols will only appear on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5. In addition to this, D’Artagnan and the Three Musketeer symbols will make an appearance in the Free Spins round only.
There is a variety of Features and Modifiers available in both base games in Musketeer Megaways, depending on which mode you have active. More on these below!
All 4 One & 1 for All Modes
iSoftBet has definitely mixed things up a little, by introducing the All 4 One and 1 for All Modes. Before you begin spinning, you will be given the option to activate the All 4 One Mode or remain on 1 for All.
The 1 for All game mode is a single Megaways reel set, played on Richelieu Riches reels. This is the standard game mode, which is automatically activated during the start of Musketeer Megaways. Using the Gold button on the left side of the reel set(s), you will be able to activate and deactivate each Mode accordingly.
The All 4 One game mode is a 4-way Megaways game, set across 4 reel sets. This mode may only be accessed via the Gold button on the left side of the reel set. Acitvating the All 4 One mode will cost 50 Coins playing 4 reel sets at 10 Coins, and an additional 10 Coins will be made into a Side Bet. The additional Side Bet goes directly into Returns from the All 4 One Free Spins.
Lose to Win Modifier
The Lose to Win Modifier can trigger randomly during any base game spin during the 1 for All mode. Once active, the Lose to Win Modifier is guaranteed to award either a Feature trigger or a reel win.
Mystery Symbols
During any random spin in both the Free Spin rounds and base game, Mystery symbols in the form of Windmills can appear on the reels. Once this happens, all visible Mystery symbols will reveal the same High or Low paying symbol, possibly creating a winning combination.
Max Megaways
During any base game spin, the Max Megaways modifier can be awarded. Once this happens, the Max Megaways title will appear, awarding the max amount of Megaways to the reels at 117,649 ways. This feature will only occur during the 1 for All mode.
Musketeer Megaways Free Spins
Landing 4 Scatters in any position on the reels, triggers the Free Spins round, awarding 5 Free Spins. Regardless of which Mode is active during the intial trigger, the Free Spins round is played with all 4 Reel Sets active. Each additional Scatter after the required 4, awards +1 Free Spin, up to a maximum of 7.
During the Free Spins round, each of the 4 Reel Sets has an active Multiplier, which increases by +1 for every winning combination formed on that particular Reel Set. Each of the 4 Multipliers start off at x1.
Although most of the Free Spins round is identical regardless of which Mode is active at the time of the inital trigger, but there is a slight difference to the Free Spins round that is triggered whilst All 4 One mode is active.
Super Symbol Feature
During Free Spins, a special All 4 One Super symbol is active, appearing randomly during any Free Spin. Once the Super symbol lands in view, the current highest Multiplier out of the 4 is then applied to the 3 other Reel Sets in play. Landing an All 4 One Super symbol, awards an additional +1 Free Spin each time.
In addition to this, triggering the Free Spins round whilst the All 4 One mode is active, swaps out the Richelieu symbol for d’Artegnan and the 3 Musketeers.
The Free Spins round has a Bonus Guarantee, which awards an additional +3 Free Spins at the end of the Free Spins round if you happen to win less than 10x you current bet. The Bonus Guarantee can only be activated once. Please note, Scatter symbols are not present during Free Spins.
Musketeer Megaways: Our Verdict
Musketeer Megaways Richelieu Riches is certainly exciting compared to the last instalment in the Twisted Tale series, which was Scrooge Megaways, but it would be hard not to be…
The Twisted Tale series is a funny one. It can either be an incredible display of innovation, or a little bit of a let-down. In our opinion, Morgana Megaways still stands as the best of the lot, but that’s not to say that Musketeer Megaways is bad.
In actuality, we were quite impressed with what iSoftBet did with Musketeer Megaways, though history has proven that the Quad reel configuration isn’t the most popular. We can’t quite pinpoint what exactly makes it less desireable to some…Maybe it’s the increased cost? or perhaps it’s simply the sensory overload of 4 different reel sets spinning at once.
This configuration is of course, completely optional, and it wouldn’t be a bad choice to go for a single reel set config either. In the 1ForAll mode, you’ll benefit from more features like the Lose to Win Modifier and Maximum Megaways.
We’re glad to see that iSoftBet has decided to give each mode their own benefits, but it seems like iSoftBet has undermined their own feature in terms of potential. The Stats for All4One puts the maximum exposure at 19.507x, while the maximum possible exposure for the 1ForAll configuration puts the max exposure at 33,990x.
It’s hard not to automatically assume that the 4 reel configuration is better, but seemingly this isn’t the case where potential is concerned. Elsewhere, All4One is the clear choice with a superior hit rate, more frequent Free Spins and a better RTP (95.99%)
Overall, we think Musketeer Megaways looks great, but we wouldn’t be surprised if people disregarded it based on a quad reel config that just hasn’t taken off.
